Wall-E

Wall-E is a true family film rather than a kid's film. The cute characters and fast action keep the kids entertained while the mature story, dazzling animation and subtle messages make the film an intelligent and involving experience for the adults. With Wall-E, Pixar creates another must-see film with something for everyone.

Wall-E is a robot whose sole task is to compact trash and pile it in an orderly fashion. His one-note life is suddenly disrupted when a spaceship deposits another robot Eve. Wall-E becomes friends with Eve without realizing that Eve is on Earth for a specific job. Once the job is done, Eve shuts down and is taken back by the spaceship. But Wall-E is unwilling to let go of his friend and boards the spaceship to try and get Eve back.

Wall-E
manages to be captivating without any singing donkeys, talking automobiles or colorful fish. For almost half the film, the film has only two robots in a dreary post-apocalyptic world and yet it is more entertaining that most films filled with humans. Wall-E's tentative courting of Eve is delightful and the two make a cute pair that we really begin to care about. With just a limited set of expressions and non-human grunts, they create a cute screen couple - even when one of them becomes immobile.

The movie turns bright and energetic once the action moves to the spaceship. While the state of the humans delivers a cautionary note about the direction today's society is headed in, the chases keep the film moving at a fast clip. A few humans too get to play a role in saving the Earth in some inspirational scenes.

Visually, Pixar has been raising the bar with each of their films and the bar's been raised to an all-new level with Wall-E. Whether the trash-filled landscapes of the future or the bright, futuristic settings aboard the spaceship, the screen comes alive and we frequently forget that we're watching images created solely on a computer. And on a smaller level, the attention to detail is amazing in locations like Wall-E's abode or the spaceship when the humans' needs are attended to.

till date, I havent seen a single animated movie (neither in the theatre nor on DVD) in the US...dont know but its a BIG stumbling block for me that there're no humans! it'll take a lot of cajoling if my wife really wants to see the movie with me!

Trust me Ram, I was in your place, a couple of years ago until a friend of mine introduced me to Finding Nemo and boy, it has been such a enjoyable ride, now that I have watched almost all the popular animated movies. Wall-E is a good movie to break your self-imposed restraint :)

Balaji, Wall-E is one of those movies that the much-abused phrase 'instant classic' can be applied to. I simply loved the movie.

Ram..you don't know what you have been missing..Start with "Val-i". Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Toy Story and Shrek 1 are other must watch "recent" animation movies.

I also loved the Pixar short film that came before Wall-E!

Go see this film. No ifs, ands, or buts. Its very good. Pixar is the only CGI-movie studio making decent films.

The movie is not out in Australia until September.

But from BB's review and from the comments here, I guess, the wait is worth it.

this is for the die-hard bbthotian who bothers to check the comments column even when there're no updates:

identify the movie (as with any of quiz of mine, dont expect easy qs)

"evlo paasam ma kayal vizhi-ku...indha kozhandhaingaluku irukara manasu periyavangaluku varaadhunge..."

"indha karuvuke neenge kaaranam illengambodhu kalaikka solla mattum ena urimai iruku ungaluku" (hint: the heroine referring to her unrequited love)

"ena thangai-nu sonnaaan...th-th-thev___nu sollirundhaa kooda i wouldnt have bothered..."

"peelu (raagathula) try panni paarungalen..."

"dey, nee periya ambition ode irukke-nu nenachen...idhu thaan un ambition-a? nee yaaru daa...Vasanth..."

Ram... Summa pinni pedal edukkareengale. On first look, couldn't guess correctly any. 1 or 2 sounds familiar though. Will come back.

1) Not sure but familiar
2) sounds very much like "SindhuBhairavi". But knowing Ram's love for Vasanth's movies, it can be "Nee Paadhi Naan Paadhi" as well. But I will go with Sindhu Bhairavi.
3) Another balachander movie - is it Vaaname ellai?
4) zapped. Wild guess: Unnal Mudiyum thambi?
5) Manadhil Urudhi Vendum??

Ahh, bend nimithiteenga.. Moolaikku sodakku edukkanum.

Am not at all surpised by the 'bad' news :) Attempting by itself is fun.
Is the second one - "Makkal en pakkam"?

good quiz ram.

1. raaja parvai
3. aval appadithan

Number 2 sounds familiar but just can't remember which movie exactly.
Btw, is Kamal the common factor in the movies?

Gayatri

bart, am glad you made a sporting attempt to answer the qs.
nope, not makkal en pakkam.

gayatri, 1 and 3 are right :-)
to answer your question, only 2/5 are movies with kamal

okay, some clues now:
2) actress is the late. soundarya
4) uttered by rekha
5) line written by the late. sujatha

Clues have made it a bit more interesting:
2) Ponnumani?
4) Sigaram?
5) Ayudha Ezhuthu?
With this I've overused my quota and hence any / all are wrong, I shall wait for answers :)

answers:
2) "Ivan" - Soundarya talks about her one-sided love for Parthiban. read the line again and you will see the nice use of the language
4) Bart, you got it - "Sigaram." This is the lead-in line for the soothing melody, "Vannam Konda Vennilavey..."
5) "Kannethirey Thonrinaall" - Karan advices Prashanth. I like this movie so much that it was a shock to me that the same director could make C R A P like "Sandhitha Velai" "Majnu" and "Urchagam"

Ram, I had a dilemma between Ivan and Ponnumani after the clues.. Couldn't have guessed Kannethirey Thondrinaal. A good movie and I even forgot that Sujatha wrote dialogues for that movie..
Similar to KT, I liked that movie "Thinanthorum" and its director (nagaraj if i remember right) had even acted in it. After that not sure what he did / is doing?
