Kuselan Trailer

Superstar...
Adho Paar...
Rajayogam konda Superstar namma screenukku vandhaaru...

The Kuselan trailer is out! The first trailer I saw [thanks Filbert], which seems to be the version released to television channels, was a little disappointing since it was the usual montage of random clips from the film, giving us no insight into kind of movie it is. After Sivaji's superb trailer, it was quite a letdown.

But this trailer's much better and does its job well. It gives us an idea about the crux of the story (how an actor's arrival to a town affects the life of one of his childhood friends who lives in the town), apart from giving us glimpses of most of the characters. We are made to wait a little while (anticipation is good!) for thalaivar but the introduction when it happens is electrifying . His trademark walk in all those stylish dresses is a preview of the goosebumps in store for us during the actual movie. Nayan's solo rain song gets a few seconds and there seem to be quite a few comedians with Vadivelu, Santhanam, Livingston, Bhaskar and Vaiyapuri. The background score, picked from Cinema Cinema... number, works very well.

Just over a week to go :)

"We are made to wait a little while (anticipation is good!) for thalaivar"

--> I am sure the movie - not just the trailer - will extract every bit of the anticipation factor...in chandramukhi, vasu was very shrewd in giving rajni enough screen time in a story that was NOT centered on him...in kuselan, esp. since rajni is playing a movie star, there will be no problem including fights, songs, comedy, etc even if they are totally unrelated to the story...talking of which, who bothers about the story anyway? to quote this from iruvar:

mohan lal: "naan verum nadigan
thaane"
prakash raj: "avange apdi nenaikkaliye...avange manasula un mugatha aazhama padhichu vechurukaange...unakaage uyirayum kudupaange..."

in two words, rajni's charisma.
thats what will make kuselan tick. i remember when chandramukhi was released, i did not want to write a review because...who cares? rajni's movies are not meant to be subjects of film criticism, they're outlets for fanatical obsession...thats just the way it works...

True Balaji, the first trailer that I saw was a tad disappointing but this one is pretty good. Though it cannot hold a candle to Sivaji's trailer which was easily one of the best trailers in recent times, few shots showing Thalaivar's stylish walk are just enough for fans like us.

Only grouse is that there was not even one line uttered by Thalaivar in the trailer. May it was intended that way.

Balaji-

yes, the count down has begun. Do you plan to go to the Thalaivar fans event on this Friday at Tirupathi Bhimas?

BB, have you seen the malayalam original? If yes, how would you rate that film?

I have to wait until 10 Aug to watch this movie.

So as usual, your review 'first' movie 'next'.

bart, hope its working now :)

ram, very apt piece of dialog. since this is not a typical 'rajni film' and he's not gonna be there the whole time, let's see how it works :)

filbert, and no actual song clips either :)

mitr, read about it but don't think i can make it. u going? :)

rajesh, no havent seen it. remakes of malayalam films haven't been a quality bunch so far. hope this breaks the trend :)

srivatsan, neenge sonnadhu "aboorva sahodharargall" dialog thaane? :)

bb, true but i have a feeling that vasu would've ensured that rajni scenes would be very well spread thro' out the movie...i feel pasupathy is a very good actor who can carry off a weighty role...so, its not like the non-rajni portions would be unwatchable...

poruthirundhu paarpom...!

Rajini is supposedly in the film for 40-60 minutes, and the total running time is 155 minutes. I think now they're backtracking on the Rajini-centric marketing so as not to disappoint people when they find out he's not even in half the film.

I haven't seen the Katha Parayumbol, but given that this is a P. Vasu film with Rajinikanth in it, if the original was a good movie, Kuselan will be less so.

I saw the audio release function in Kalaignar TV this weekend. I also have a feeling that it is not going to have much of Rajini in it. Not even as much as Chandramukhi.

But watching the audio release function, it was disappointing not to see the main character of the movie 'Pasupathy'. I understand that he didn't make it for some reason, but there was hardly a mention about the actor in the function. They were talking about Rajini, Rajini, Rajini, KB, Bharathiraja, GV.Prakash, ARR and a few other actors but not a single word about Pasupathy. Since the movie was about best friends, they organised it in such a way that each one of them called their best friends to give out the audio CD. KB gave it to Bharathiraja, Rajini gave it to one of his long-time friends, Jagapathy Babu to Arjun etc and it was ironical that they were celebrating it without the main character of the story.

So Jagapathy Babu is doing Pasupathi's role in Telugu?
