Rajni - 2007's Entertainer of the Year!

[Pic Courtesy - The Hindu]

What a wonderful start to the New Year for thalaivar fans! First there was the news that Rajni would definitely do 2 more movies, one of which we would see this year itself. Then came a new trailer for Sultan, the computer-animated movie directed by Rajni's daughter Soundarya. And now we hear that Rajni has been selected as 2007's 'Entertainer of the Year'. He received the award from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself and got to answer a few questions, with his usual simplicity and humbleness, from the host, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan.

The video of the award presentation can be seen here.

Congrats Rajini!
I am glad that a Tamil movie was chosen among the Bollywoods one.

I think that was a deliberate question by Karan Johar. He just wants Rajini to mention about Big B.

if there is one award that rajni truly deserves, its this one. if not for anything, he makes his films to satisfy his fans more than for any artistic satisfaction. so, while i really feel horrible that he's received some "acting" awards in recent years, this is one award he well and truly deserves. hats off to rajni!

That award must have stung our friend of the north. The have long dreamt of the global market and somehow see themselves as the frontrunners of Indian Cinema - in quality, big budgets and all things aplomb.

The truly humbling factor is : if the industry is honouring entertainers in the entertainment business - nobody does it in more dignity that the guys down south. In terms of quality, content and delivery - may seem rusty and edgy at times - but ultimately, the end product is world class.

All honour and salutations to the immortal Superstar - the beacon (alongside Kamal of course) of Indian Cinema.

ALL HAIL THE KING!
