Happy Birthday Rajnikanth!

Happy Birthday to Rajnikanth, the one and only Superstar...

As is usually the case, we fans have enough cause for celebration this year also. Sivaji finally released and fully met our expectations. Expectedly, it is a blockbuster and has just recorded 175 days, beating a number of records in the process. Thalaivar won the State award for Best Actor for Chandramukhi. And Sultan, the animation film based on Rajni, is only 6 months away.

This is the 3rd thalaivar birthday that this blog is celebrating. The first year, I celebrated Rajni the superstar by listing my 5 favorite Rajni scenes. Last year, I celebrated the actor in him by listing my 5 favorite Rajni performances. This year, I'm going to celebrate the entertainer in him. So today I'll be counting down my 10 favorite song sequences from Rajni films.

These are my favorite song sequences and not songs. So the dance, the picturization, the sets/locales and most importantly, the way Rajni has been portrayed, all play as important a part as the song itself. To lessen the suspense a little, the following are some of the runners-up: Raja Enbaar... (Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri), Thaazhampoove Vaasam Veesu... (Kai Kodukkum Kai), Oora Therinjukitten... (Padikkaadhavan), Raakku Muthu Raakku... (Ejamaan), Oru Koodai Sunlight... (Sivaji)

Let the music begin...

My name is Billa

Something tells me 'Baba Kichu Kichu' won't figure in this list ;)

Happy Birthday to our beloved Thalaivar, the King of hearts and the evergreen & eternal Superstar of Tamil cinema!!

Our picks have varied before & so, i am not going to guess how your list would look like but I can be damn sure about one song - the Athiradee song would be in your top 3 :)

narayan, I did think about Raagangal Padhinaru, but while it's a great song, is there anything special about Rajini in it? That's why I dropped it off.

sujay, same comment for 'Kaadalin Deepam Onru'. Great song, but Rajini is just walking around in it. So I doubt if it will make the list.

I also dropped off 'Ammavendru Azhaikaadha' for the same reason.

raj, if I had thought about it, Podhuvaga En Manasu would have been on my list too. That is probably one of the first 'Superstar' songs. 'Ennama Kannu' ... maybe.

balaji, game on. I think we'll guess most of the songs, if not all. Assuming you have the list already prepared, you have to tell us at the end when we proposed songs which would have made your list, if only you had thought of them. Deal?

Here is a list that I can came up with (mostly what I think makes Rajini.. Rajini! :-)

Autokkaaran (both in picturization & song quality.. simply awesome.. I think this will be No.1 on any list, let alone Balaji's! :-)

Obviously..
Athiradee from Sivaji
Raa.. Raa.. from Chandramukhi (His Vettayan costume is to die for, isn't it?! :-)
Yennamma Kannu (very unique and probably the only film where the villain & hero willingly share screen time for a song! Rarely is the case even nowadays!)

Maadathile Kanni Maadathile from Veera.. Can't think of any Rajini fan who didn't like this song or Meena in it! :-) ;-)

Kodaiyil Thaazhamboo from Annamalai.. Actually, an excellent sakkalathi to "Super staru yaaru-nu kaetta".. does the same thing as that song.. but much much more attractively..

Rakkamma Kaiya Thattu from Thalapathy.. Classic in every sense of the word.. be it song, picturization and just about everything else..

Dark Horses: Podhuvaaga En Manasu from Murattu KaaLai, Amma Yendraikaadha from Mannan, Kaadhalin Deepam Ondru from Thambikku Endha Ooru and Minsaara Kanna from Padaiyappa..

It's your list, so can't argue too much. But too bad, not even 1 KB song! I guess as consolation, there are 1-2 Kavithalaya songs :)

I was sure My name is Billa and Podhuvaga En Manasu would be on the list. The former because that was the movie he overtook Kamal, and the latter because I think that's when he became a Superstar.

So now that you seen everybody else's list, which ones would you have included? What number would they be on your list?
