Happy Birthday Rajni!

[Pics Courtesy Rajinifans.com, Chandramukhi website]

Birthday wishes to Rajnikanth, the Superstar of style, the king of Kodambakkam, the Baa(d)sha of the box office. But most importantly, the trendsetter who has been imitated but has never been(and will never be) matched.

Happy Birthday to the one and only thalaivar...

Yep... today, December 12, is Rajnikanth's birthday. Though he has already celebrated [thanks Kaps] it, its my turn today :-) So to celebrate the occasion, I will be counting down my top five favorite Rajni film scenes today. These are scenes that show us why he is the star that he is; scenes that showcase the larger-than-life (super)star in him; scenes that, for me, were well worth the price of admission.

ofcourse, he was, is, will be and can be the only superstar in tamil cinema... none of the wannabes can ever come to even 0.01% of thalaivar... happy bday thalaivar..:)

There was a poster here in blore on the occasion with the Superstar (super-imposed) in the middle and young ladies surrounding him (take-off from 'Manmadhan'). It said, 56-vadhu vayadhil mirattum Manmadha Sivaji :) Long live thalaiva...
Some superstar scenes that hit me are:
a) Padayappa oonjal scene
b) Baatsha interval knot
c) Annamalai, the scene where he moves up the escaltor while Sarathbabu comes down
d) Chandramukhi - the raja act in "raa raa" song
e) 'Mullum Malarum' Climax scene where he sends Shoba back
and many more....

5 of my favorite rajni scenes:

1. "mullum malarum" scene where he apologizes to shoba for being livid with her earlier and says, "enna nalla adichudu maa."

2. "16 Vayadhinile" - the thiruvizha scene where he says, "ivanga aathalukku dhaavani poatta kooda nallaa irukkum...idhu epdi irukku!"

3. "Johnny" - the "barber" scene where Deepa hurts him and his subsequent understated reactions.

4. "Dhalapathi"- the famous sequence outside the police station.

5. "Annamalai"- the auction scene and the following scene in the parking lot.

My most endearing Rajnikanth scene happens toward the end of Annamalai when he decides to return the house "mortgage papers" to Sarathbabu thereby signifying that he wanted everything that had transpired up to that point to come to a close. One of the very rare times I gulped watching a Tamil movie.

Kamal indeed wished Rajnikanth on his 30th birthday yesterday on Vijay TV!! The best thing I liked about his B;day wish is his anbu kattalai (or was it a veNdugoL) asking Rajnikanth not to go to Imaya malai!!!

nithya, rajinifans.com has a lot of snaps from his older movies. rare and pretty cool pics...

bart, thats cool. rajni fans r a creative bunch too :) didnt have a digital camera to snap a pic? would've been interesting to c :)

prasanna, 'sivaji' was supposed to start shooting any day after his bday. paarpom :)

ram, all great scenes. but in my list i just wanted to highlight the superstar rather than the actor in him :)

gopi, one of the reasons why 'annamalai' is my fav rajni movie :)

me too, yep :)

merino, sure he does :)

vee-jay, 30th??!! paakka younga irukarunu age marandhutingala?! LOL wish i'd seen the program :)

Yeah, 30th!!! He justified that Rajnikanth is just 30 years old whereas the real Shivaji Rao was older and he'd wish the real Shivaji Rao on his --th birthday in person :)
As expected, Kamal wishing Rajni was the last in the program follwed by Rajnikanth cutting the cake, but it was worth the wait!!!
