i liked the movie "Kanamochi enada" better than rest of the diwali releases. The fact goes that satyaraj and Prithiviraj were the reason for these. i know it was no great shake, but somehow found it entertaining. i love the scene where Prithiviraj and satyaraj inside the police jeep. that scene was so hilarious.

skanda, thats the one where he gives orders about dealing with a criminal right? yeah that was one of the better scenes. I think the bed scene(which i've mentioned) and the 'truth serum' scenes killed the comedy for me :)

Balaji, you might remember me saying that Naan Avanillai is not at all a superhit as it was hyped up.
And you responded by saying "read somewhere(sify or rediff) today that they were both superhits. so i guess i've been more restrained :)"
If you've read the sify's list of top 5 tamil hits of Jan-jul 2007,the 3rd biggest hit(Paruthiveeran) grossed 10 crores,4th biggest hit(Mozhi) grossed 7-8 crores. You can as well guess how much Naan Avanillai(which was 5th in the list.) might have grossed.

Anyway, with a 'clean washout' in Machakaran, let's hope Jeevan might learn some 'genuine acting skills'.

balaji,

you gave polladhavan 2 1/2 stars in the list of reviews. however in the review page itself the movie only has 2 stars. just wanted to let you know.

Balaji, surprised that Pollaadhavan has only got 2.5 stars :( I loved the movie so much (except for that one senseless item number) and will definitely place it on par with Chennai 600028, which got a 3 star from you.

vazhapazham, with no inside info on kollywood, my sources r simply tamil cinema websites. so in this case too, i was just repeating what i read in various sites about 'naan avanillai's BO status :)

anon, thanx for pointing that out. a result of the usual cut-and-paste :) will fix it soon.

filbert, loved the 1st half. but the 2nd half was a letdown for me. i defly liked it a lot but not close to chennai-28 which i'd call an 'almost 3.5 *' :)

KE is a freemake of "Guess Who?" (the racial angle substitued with the caste angle).

Am not surprised that I agree fully with your final results of Diwali. Polladhavan stands at the top while KME and Machakaran stands at the bottom.
But post-diwali, it looks like suddenly a spate of good movies have got released!
nbathu roobai nottu, Evano oruvan, Oram Po (partially) and Kalloori - all getting positive reviews.. Yet to see even one of them.

Balaji, wondering if you will review "The Namesake". Saw it last week and it is probably one of the gems of 2007. Would love to get your thoughts on it.

anon, sorry for the typo :)

anon, i think 'guess who' was itself a light-hearted take on 'guess who's coming to dinner?'. but u're right. KE can be seen as a remake of that :)

bart, surprisingly, if i'd made a list b4 the films got released, i would've placed KE at the top and 'pollaadhavan' near the bottom :)

i've seen 2 of the 4 u've listed. the +ve reviews are justified :)

anon, i saw it last week too. loved it. one of the 3 movies i'm trying to find the time to write a review for :)

Pollaadhavan is a fine example of how to indiginise a foreign film, cud have improved the narration though the visual treatment was excellent...like I always say as long as they put more effort on the inspiration ;-)
