May 31!

The final milestone for Sivaji's release has been reached! AVM has officially announced that the film will release worldwide on Thursday May 31. Just 18 more days to go...

Some rumors earlier said the film would release on May 26 and that was quite a shock. I have a trip planned for the Memorial Day weekend and a May 26 release would have required a change of travel plans :-) Now thankfully, the film is releasing only the day after I return. I might still miss the preview shows if there are any but atleast, I will be back in time for the actual release (just that since I will be out of town, I won't be able to do the 'Countdown to Sivaji' posts I had planned on doing leading upto the release itself).

By the way, a few new stills from the film have also been released to whet our appetite...

Well finally!

However, if there is a late Sivaji, there is a later Kireedam, Bheema and Evano Oruvan! So dats kinda bad in a way!

***FROM PREVIOUS TOPIC***

*Thanks for the reply.

But he seems to be the one editing the wikipedia page under the name 'Universal Hero' - and all the names aren't complete. So I think dats wat he is looking for, more names to fill up. Keep going :)

This whole month has been a real waste as no proper movies were released. Just becoz of ambiguity serounding "shivji" re;ease date, no one dares to release thier films.

Easil "Kireedam", "auto", "evvan yaro" could have been released. i am really starved of watching a good tamil film. erggghhhh

I'm dreading this movie.

@ Orange fronkey

I have a bad feeling about this movie too. Though Rajini is supposed to be strong point/attraction of the movie, I feel he is going to be biggest liability. I am an ardent fan of Rajini but I strongly feel that he is waaaaay past his shelf life.

That is always the case, there will be people who fear in similar situations, in this case because we have to a certain extent grown up on Rajnikanth and hence kind of want this movie to be winner even though with the enormouse hype surrounding it and the delays makes it kind of wish and hope that this movie turns out decent enough.

Rajnikanth has nothing to prove to anyone, hence for some reason I fail to understand the tremedous hype built up around this of course I do understand the coming together of AVM, Rajnikanth, Shankar and A R Rahman is in itself is kind of an event.

Let us hope that the film does live up to what it promises for the sake everyone involved.

Good Luck

hope the movie turns out decent. with this hype..no one wants another baba or indian team in the world cup.

ar.rahman has already let down. rajini fans.. you have to accept, chandramukhi songs were better than this AR mixture. chennai 28 was much better than this..

well..there is another two weeks ago, and looks like the festival has already begin!!! i am gonna wait 4 the big day to come!! it is still a long way 2 go. just hope shankar does not make any stupid excuses any postphone it again like what he did with "anniyan" and "boyz". but suprise, why didint shankar didint release follow his lucky number these time? probably found out 4 was a better number...

Chandramukhi better than Sivaji songs? Romba kindal panreenga! Devuda Devuda was a rehash of Koduva Meesai from Dhool, and the rest of the songs were nothing special. The original Kannada version of Raa Raa was better IMO. I agree that Baba songs and movie were disappointing.

Did you see the Sivaji T-Shirt, Balaji?

I'm going to try to see if us, Californians, can afford the same luxury of a T-shirt that we can buy locally (because $13+shipping is a hefty much to get a T-shirt from the UK!)..

Wouldn't if be really 'cultish' for all of us to wear a Sivaji T-shirt and fill up an entire theater and watch Sivaji on a Friday night to kick off the opening weekend!..

Kewl!.. Cool!.. Can't wait! :-) ;-)

I have been reading your blog for the past few months. I am TRULY amazed that there can be such ardent rajini fans (people counting down and waiting for the movie to release with bated breath) amongst educated grown up engineers!! It definitely makes for interesting reading. For the record, i am a slightly rajini-leaning movie watcher (if you consider the rajini-kamal duo of the tamil movie industry). So i do follow all the excitement but from the sidelines only. Do you guys throw flowers or dollar bills on the screen during your first day screenings? :-). Would you really wear a Rajni T shirt and walk around?

I for one don't seem to understand the madness (pardon me if this sounds unbecomingly inapproporiate) buzzing over this?
I can understand some excited anticipation but this almost devotional anxiety is incomprehensible. I don't seem to register any of these as simple fanfare...!! IT IS JUST A MOVIE... for crying out loud!

anon, a Rajni film does not come everyday and him, a superstar teaming up with another super director like shankar whose film is produced by a superb home production like AVM and has a superb music director, AR Rahman carries SUPERB expectations!!

At 5:52 AM, Blogger VThinkTank said...

it was a SUPERB post SUPER SKANDAJI.
:-) :-) :-)

For people who find it puzzling the kind of adulation Rajnikanth gets here, it possibly because people grew up on the fare dished out by Rajnikanth and you cannot deny the fact, he does catch your attention pretty well. It has nothing to do with being educated or not engineers or not. It is just the joy thrill and enjoyment people get from things and in this case it happens to be a Rajnikanth movie. I know you all probably know that. In case you feel offended by my comment PARDON MOI. Apologies in advance

Cheers

Nice pix! That Shriya looks delectable! I am looking more to seeing her and Vivek's comedy than Rajni. I wish Rajni would stick to long pants :-) He looks good in that suit but those 3 quarter pants make him look like an overdressed pedal pusher out of Bangkok.

Like with everything else, The Boss has shattered the record for most number of prints for a Tamil film in the US (CM had 6 but Sivaji, it is rumored, might have more than 12 prints) and that means for the first time, a Thalaivar film will be screened in Seattle on the day of the worldwide release. So, staying in Seattle for the release, Balaji :)

Ram, that was a good one as usual. Coming from a Kamal fan, I should say it was awesome :)

Filbert, if I were them I would courageously release Sivaji in the Top 20 markets (as listed for Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Chak De India in Yahoo Summer Movie Guide!). If the top 20 markets had prints, surely people from other parts of the country will flock to the closest venue to see it.

I do think Sivaji (Tamil & Telugu)has the pulling power of any Bollywood Blockbuster in the USA! :-) ;-) (Romba dhaan aasai enakku! :-)

skanda, i thot u liked 'unnaale unnaale'. and 'chennai 28' was good too. so not such a bad situation :)

sriram, how can an ardent fan say such a thing?!

sandya, friday night? not sure i can wait that long :)

shree, no $ bills for sure. but would love to wear a 'sivaji' tshirt to the movie :)

anon, yep just a movie. but for 3 hrs, rajni and shankar r capable of making us forget that it is :)

anon, "overdressed pedal pusher out of Bangkok" - i'm offended as a rajni fan but as someone who loves humor, that was a hilarious description :)

ram, that was awesome.

"kiru kiru kiruvena kirukira kirukanum..." - ennai solra maadhiri iruke :)

filbert, lucky u :)

arun, planning to watch it this week :)

For all the buzz that that's happening, can anyone honestly now not fear the unspeakable...what if Baba repeats itself in the form of Sivaji ...I shudder...I shudder...

Having seen the stills, what's with the blond hairpiece !! Makes Rajni look terribly fugly ... hope the song sequence, that is obviously the reason, justifies this monstrosity!

Balaji,
I'm quite eager to read your review on Periyar, the movie :). I felt Satyaraj has given a wonderful performance, one of the best in recent times. By the end of the movie, I thought he played the elderly Periyar better than Kamal played Senapathy in Indian.
