What the hell BB!

Naan Avanillai a TWO !! And Jeevan being criticized. For what sevral other reviews have seen he has ruled his part and undone the legendary Gemini Ganesan in his role. Definitely a 2.5 or a 3. You didn't mention anything about the sixth heroine.

Ganesh Kumar, that joke is of poor taste. Please refrain from making a fool of yourself on this blog.

Ganesh, I'll have to agree with Raj. Nobody's downfall (especially their death) can be reduced down to frivolous humor.. It benefits nobody and definitely demeans the individual who has left us. There is no humor in anybody's passing, especially in the real world (even though the reel world thinks otherwise!)

By the way, this's within the topic. On Friday(May 4),I saw Selvaraghavan's Telugu movie 'Adavari maatalaku arthale verule'.(*ing Venkatesh.)It's actually a sweet, refined mixture of DDLJ,KKHH and Venkatesh's big hits like Premante Idera.
I've come to know that Dhanush's next film 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini' is a remke of the above-mentioned film.
In the film, the hero has 'light comedy + light action'(Which BalajiB claims to be the one suited for Dhanush.)
So,Dhanush's next film is within the 'strengths/limitations' of his acting, unlike this PEAS,where Dhanush becomes a 'gangster'.

//Naan Avanillai marks the first official Tamil remake of an earlier Tamil film.//
You mean to say that our flmmakers freq. freemake/rehash successful movies/formulae of our own lang.
//Jeevan is stiff, inexpressive and wooden and shows not even a hint of the charm required for him to be believable as a charmer.//
I believe Tamil cinema critics are too obsessed with hero who prefer anti-hero roles or a role with grey shades, not caring whether the acting is suitable enough. That's why Jeevan's role in Thiruttu Payale and Naan Avanillai are 'highly appreciated' by the critics, though the actual fact is that those 2 films would have been very good if some better actor was put in his place.

BB,

Same with me I was expecting a separate post on Naan ... even if not a 2.5 stars :-), Considering PEAS got a separate post.

prin, i think u know by now that i don't really care what the other reviews said. the review is exactly what i felt about the film. the romances were all crapfests and jeevan was completely uncharismatic and hence unbelievable. and btw, this was a low 2 stars :)

ganesh, thanx for removing the tasteless joke. and please avoid posting unrelated stuff here. they may have merit but should still be posted on your own blog if they are unrelated to the post.

i agree with ur comment on jeevan. he's been getting praise just cos he's different from other heroes and has been doing anti-hero roles. but i thot he was pretty weak in 'thiruttu payale' and felt he was even suited to the role(and so was worse) in 'naan avanillai'.

srivatsan, i never even knew 'naan avanillai' was releasing until i saw the reviews on websites. but even otherwise, i wasn't looking forward to it all that much. a movie with jeevan as hero and namitha and malavika as 2 of the heroines just doesn't inspire much confidence in me :) sneha was pretty much the only reason i looked fwd to it...

First thing first, the director is Selvah and not Vincent Selva(Madurai veeran is this guys new movie).

Personally I felt without the songs the movie was good. Regarding the con jobs they are the same as the original and hence the outdated look, except for some additional comments of DNA test and Mobile phones.

He may be wooden but his films are running the least we should give the devil his due that he is selecting his movies with proper care, which we cannot say for most of the other actors. He knows his limitation and seems to have the courage to wait for roles that suit him.
