I watched "Koodal Nagar" :)
I would not comment much until you review but it seems the directors have been bitten by "Kaadhal" bug for sometime now. They think if a movie is made a bit realistic and less glossy, it is sureshot success. But then....

I thot it the 'kaadhal' hangover was kinda obvious in tthe trailers...

This is where young stars like Bharath, Jeevan and the likes go wrong. They dont make intelligent choices beyond their initial successes and relegate themselves to mediocrity. Bharath has done 2-3 mediocre films already since Pattiyal. Sad. I hope Karthi fares a bit better. But I guess there are only so many good directors around. You have to do meaningless masalas in between to survive and remain in public sight

Thanks for the review Balaji! Arjun seems to be a goner now, he did have a good chance at one stage, but now a days his movie all seem to be B -grade

i know it would hurt jyothika fans but I guess from what balaji describes, this is the perfect send-off for jyothika. She has been doing exactly this for years and earned an undersrving good name as an actress. An above-average performance in Mozhi looked like giving her a good sendoff but the Gods of art knew what to do exactly!

People are going to remember Jothika for movies like "Mozhi" and not for clunkers like "Manikanda" (unseen by me). So, I dont think it really matters what her valedictory effort is, in terms of release dates. She's done enough good work to merit a place in the list of memorable Tamil cine artistes.

Thiru(tu)Magan - SJ Suryah is incapable of redemption! He thinks he can carry off a suave casanova role! Yikes! And what more, other directors cast him in their films! What high standards :-)

a piece of trivia: have u guys noticed SJ Suryah in a small role in a Bharathiraja movie? He figures in a cpl of scenes. That movie was written by Rathnakumar, the director of thirumagan.

btw, the casanova comment was a reference to vyapari.

I will remember Jyothika as the one "numero uno" (amongst actresses) who was the least appealing in every which way

aww you guys should stop being so hard on her....she was much better than so many others....and also appealing in her own way....you can't be expecting revathys and sri devis now...

please stop all these!
IMO, Jyothika is one of the most talented actresses,in recent time.I don't think one can name any1 besides Jo n Sim.The heroines now are not like Jo or Sim who gave equal importance for character roles and good movies.
N people I m sure will remember Jo for movies like 'Mozhi','Kaaka Kaaka','Perazhagan' n 'Chandramukhi'

I started watching Tamil movies only last year, and Jyothika to me is THE Darling of tamil cinema! In many ways, she reminded me of Sridevi, but her charm was just unmatchable!!!

One of ther reasons tamizh cinema is in the pits it is now can be seen in this comment box with the comments on jyothika. She might be an above-average actress- nothing more than that, really. Guys, what talent has she displayed. Her talent is summed u[ by simply saying that Kakka Kakka was her best effort. That speaks for itself. The best part about her performance in that movie, too, was her chemistry with Surya, which,we now know was hardly acting or performance. Why do we have to over-hype such inferior talent as Jo? Really, Tamizh Cinema will have no redemption

I totally disagree with you,Raj.
Jo was never an above-average actress. R u saying that tamil cinema is in the pits now because of actress like Jo??? Please....common...who was the lead actress in Mozhi- which was critically acclaimed...and in fact, Mozhi was a prove that tamil cinema can still deliver!!! Wat about Perazhagan??? Sneghitiyae? Is there any actress who wud do those roles????

What Raj says is correct...

Jo never performed. She only does cute expressions...an exclamation..or titlting her head.Even in Mozhi she just be there. She is not upto the mark while in angry or keeping emotions inside and showing in her face. In my opinion sneha/simran would have done this role a 100 times better

only cute expressions???? What about Chandramukhi??? Perazhagan - as the blind girl? Wat about VV, as a matured woman hvg a problem in a marriage...she was subtle and performed with elan! U gotta admit that the only actress who gv equal importance to characters, performance and a clean image was Jyothika!!!!!!!

chandramukhi, yeah, right. There are some senteneces that you have put there which , if you care to analyse, will answer why Jyothika is a less-than-above-average actress. To begin with, "..the only actress to gv equal importance to characters, performance etc etc..". Now, Only? ONLY?Only, as in , Only actress ever in Indian movies ever? Only contemporary actress? Only contemporary Tamil actress? Only contemporary Tamil actress ? weighing greater than 55 kgs?
Define the universe of your "Only" and you'l understand what I mean

raj, i think you are being shallow by bringing weight issues into your argument. you have to understand that jo was one of the few actress in tamil who was given the opportunity to have screen time that isn't limited to a grand total of 3 three duets. she may not be as good as simran but she is way way above the current crop of asin, trisha, shreya and who not. they are may be less than 55kg but jo's acting prowess and on screen charisma definately out weighs them all put together.
