Paavamya Navya

Apart from the fame and the fortune, one of the attractions of making it as a heroine in films has to be the opportunity of being paired up with some good-looking guys. In that respect, Navya Nair is probably the unluckiest among the recent heroines, as far as Tamil films go. Considering just her peers from Malayalam, Asin has already paired up with Surya, Vijay and Vikram, Nayanthara has hooked up with the Superstar and Surya and Gopika has acted with Srikanth. Even the latest arrival, Padmapriya, has managed to get paired up with Arya.

On other hand, Navya has so far had as her heroes, Prasanna (Azhagiya Theeye), Thankar Bachan (Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy) , Vineeth (Paasakkiligal) and Ganesh (Amirtham). Now, to keep her streak going, she just has to be selected as the heroine in the next S.J.Suryah flick :-)

So, is this a posting about "stars" or "good-looking guys?".. By the "good looking guys" measure, I would not call Prasanna a bad looker at all.. maybe, not star material, but not a bad looker at all!.. Same story with Vineeth (before he gained all that weight! :-)....

Haven't seen what Ganesh looks like, and could care less and less about Thangar..

By the way, Balaji, what makes you think that Cheran is better looker than S.J.Surya?.. After all, Navya has been booked by Cheran first in Maayakannadi.. before the SJS film!..

Where did you read this news about the SJS flick with Navya in it?.. I have a strong feeling that you meant to say Cheran's next instead of SJS's next!..

I have one more question for you.. enna dhideer-nu Navya mela paavam pachchaa-thaabam?.. Amirtham make you all Jell-O inside? ;-)..

Sandya, guess what balaji meant by , "Now, to keep her streak going, she just has to be selected as the heroine in the next S.J.Suryah flick :-)", was not she being selected in SJS's next movie , but she NEEDS to be selected. Like as in the sentence "he needs one more century to get to 30 tons".

Balaji,

Navya, may not have had big stars to act with, but i`m sure she`s done some better acting and has had roles with more substance, when compared with the other heroines.

And, I agree with Sandhya, Prasanna is definitely not bad-looking.

balaji, I love your blog. and you are god as far as the movie reviews are concerned. but there is no way you can place prasanna in that list alongside the hideous looking thankar bachan. no way!

One more thought that crossed my mind with regards to Revathi (another one of those "homely looking" heroines!).. If you look at her heroes in the first few years: Pandian, Suresh, Mohan, Sivakumar, Vijaykanth etc (Of these, only Sivakumar passes muster!). It wasn't until 1984 (when she got to act in "Oru Kaidhiyin Diary" with Kamal and "Kai Kodukkum Kai" with Rajini).. and even after acting with Kamal and Rajini, Revathi continued with the likes of Murali, Pandiyarajan, Prabhu, Raghuvaran etc...(even though this was interspersed with performances with Karthik, Arvind Swamy). I mean she has been very versatile.. to the point of acting with Mookkan twice (Magalir Mattum and Avathaaram!).. but as Balaji has said before.. she has been hella lucky!.. I don't know if any other heroine could have managed a career spanning as long as hers acting with the likes of Suresh, Murali and Pandian.. definitely not star material, let alone good looking!.. The only other heroine who could have made a mark in Tamil Cinema for that long would have been Sridevi.. But she didn't stick around to try it out even.. So, hard to say!..

Since there was at least some respect left for 'acting' heroines in the 80's and 90's, Revathi was able to kuppai kottu-fy here.. otherwise, she would've become another Navya Nair whose good performances went into the dumpster, only for Balaji to write about the horrendous heroes that she was paired with! :-)

firstly prasanna is a good looking dude compared to the list u had of the so ccalled good looking guys.....vijay??? like hello....
prasanna is better looking than vijay, if prasanna starts working out then vijay mite as well run for his money

and i think suresh was the most good-looking actor to have ever graced tamil cinema, maybe he wasn't a good actor but was definitely good looking and so was pandian and prabu is cute and good looking but is just a biiiiiiit overweight

so i don't know what ur defn of good looking is people....are u guys talking about just star value here?

and bb i gotta say that no matter how guys get educated, they can't seem to get rid of their shallowness.....sometimes some of ur comments in the reviews strike me as a bit shallowish...maybe it is the truth but still on the shallow side:) no offense or anything

no one who wanted to work with good looking men would work in tamil cinema. tamil cinema is all about ugly guys getting hot babes, and no rajni is not good-looking.

This is what I think.. back in those days, looks of the dudes didn't matter.. but like anon said though, its all about ugly guys getting hot girls.. but then again..... the girls aren't exactly hot..! ppl think they are, but they aint.. i just wanna puke! Like.. Mumtaj? the craze over her.. and the craze over Namitha?

guys, this was just a light-hearted post :) after seeing ganesh in 'amirtham', i just was thinking about navya's bad luck with heroes and thats what led to this...

and yeah, prasanna defly does not belong on the same list as thangar bachan. but i dont think he belongs on the same list as surya or vikram either :)

sandya, anon is right. i was just saying that if she pairs with sjs, her record of bad-looking heroes with continue :) but that was a good point about revathi's initial heroes. maybe what made the difference was that though the heroes werent goodlooking, the movies were good('pudhumai penn', 'pagal nilavu', etc.). but navya hasnt had that luck either :)

anon, absolutely no offense taken. but i'm not sure what u mean by shallow? calling someone goodlooking and others not-so-goodlooking automatically makes me shallow? then i'm guilty as charged :)

and yeah, rajni and vijay may not be goodlooking by regular standards. but these r actors who i like and so i'm sure that influenced me :)

I agree with Sandya..Good Acting heroines have more chances to work with satha heroes than Super star actors. They have fear in their minds, if these heroines may overtook them..So that, they are suggesting her in their movies. And also, Navya will not act as glamour, where top heroes needs that..And also, she may not dance with them in Vadu Manda type Songs

IMO, Prasanna is a decent looking hero... and cannot be compared with the likes of Thankar Bachan and Vineeth..

Moreover i think its not fair compare Navya with Asin... :)

After doing stupid movies with Dileep in Malayalam like Kalyanaraman etc. it is good that she is getting to act in some tamil movies. One nice thing about acting in non-superstar movies is that she would get noticed for her acting skills.
