Ready for a comeback?

Thats Simran at the audio release of Aanai Muganum Aaru Mugamum, which from the looks of the gallery [link courtesy Ram], is a devotional album being released by Vijay's mother Shoba. So is Sims angling for a role in Vijay's next? Personally, I wish she would do atleast 1 more film. As I've always maintained, a heroine with her track record deserves a much better send-off than Kicha Vayasu 16! And based on the picture above, though she probably wouldn't give Trisha or Jo a run for their money, she is still definitely heroine material.

But Tamil cinema does not have a reputation for being very kind to heroines making a comeback, especially if they are now moms. So my guess is that even if she is offered a role in Vijay's next film, it will be as Vijay's anni. Or an item number. The latter might still be OK but hope she doesn't accept the former. Maybe because of her long reign at the top and her sudden decision to wed and quit acting, she still has a certain aura. That would disappear in a flash if she dons the role of an anni to any hero today.

Balaji,
She seems to be putting conditions that she will pair up only with her hubby Deepak (she same guy who was once projected to be a pilot).
The industry has not been kind enough to married actresses and she might no longer command a premium.
Even Laila wants to continue in the movie industry as her husband doesn't have any objections to it.

BB,
I feel she can still compete with Jo and Trisha... When Rajini can be made up to look like a youngster why not Simran...

I feel Sims is still capable of mature stuff...when she was able to don the role of a mom to three kids, with great poise and dignity as far back as in 2001, she can still play meaningful roles...none of the "jodi" type playful stuff...think she's become a lil'l mature for that...but still, the sensible roles...like a tabu in chandni bar or a revathi in marupadiyum...will wait and see!

but u r right abt thamizh cinema being unkind to heroines attempting comebacks or even seeing them in a new light after they get married....remember devyani-- she was going from strength to strength in 2000 with some wonderful work in movies like barathi (just watch her in the dining table scene at nizhalgal ravi's house and u'll know what nuanced acting is all abt) when she decided to prove that Love's indeed Blind ;) wonder whaz gonna happen to Laila n Simi...! at least Laila looks the same young nutty kind...hope she didnt act like Revathi in "Dhevar Magan" with her hubby!! okay okay, i quit b4 i get saucy!

I am accepting the words of Balaji. If rajni can be made as young as he looks now, why can't Simran..But she shiuld shed somemore weight than now. But for rajni, the money matters..whatever the producer spending on him, they will get it back..will the same do for Simran?

But looking for her to do a role in Tamil Cinema Again..Then what will be her role?

* Anni for Vijay
* Mother of Ajith and wife of another Ajith
* Mother of Jeyam Ravi
* Kalyanam seiyyamal vazhum oru professor character
* As a lover of Satyaraj
* Vithavai character

Still Kushboo is doing some heroine characters in tamil cinema

I am pretty sure that Simran could be made to look young & trim again. The question really is if her fans will be as crazy about her now thats she is a mom.

I wish she and Jo turn out to do strong roles for a long time. Radhika, Suhasini and Revathi had meaty roles for a really long time and we need such artists too. While Asin (whom I feel looks pretty and can act decently - she sure has potential)..Trisha is *plain* bad. Neither pretty (she has that asattu chappa mooku kinda face), a clumsy dancer who lip syncs quarter heartedly in songs) and a terrrrribly wooden actress. Her smile is maybe cute but thats no reason for her to be a #one. Lady luck sometimes plays a BIG role.

If directors around had a tiny bit of sense, they'd use Simran well (yes..sans the unknown face of a hubby)

Simrin is a good actress with potential to do strong character roles, but her current mom look isn't going to fetch her "Asin-Trisha-Nayanthara-Sada" roles, so i guess she can try and lose weight first before she plunges into the field or start out by pairing against senior heroes like Sarath etc.

"Well, I for one never cared about Simran - no wait, that's wrong -"

Bhuvan, neenge irukkengaley...dont think u care for anyone in thamizh cinema other than the great P Vasu and Bhagyaraj!

kaps, i remember that. i think deepak even showed up in a small part in 'kv16'. considering his 'acting' in that role, simran's this demand would be enuf for producers to steer clear of her!!

balaji, lot easier to make guys look younger than to make gals look younger i think :)

ram, well put. its now upto sims to pick roles that befit her status. she should go for roles that give her scope to act. she may not get many roles but atleast she'll leave her mark on the industry.

karthik, LOL. out of those roles, the professor role sounds good. but the satyaraj's jodi role is enuf to make sure she doesn't make a mark :)

jadore, if she can be made to look ravishing again, i dont the fans will have a problem :)

bhuvan, i would rate sims above jo and way over trisha. based on the movies she's been in so far, asin is probably as good as an actress as sims...

but the fact that they get poor roles cannot be used as a yardstick to measure their talent can it? the blame falls on the producers and directors for not making movies that exploit their talent. even among the 80s and 90s actresses u mention, revathi was the only one who managed to get the best woman-centric roles. gouthami and banupriya pretty much played only bimbo roles, esp. the latter in all those horrible satyaraj movies...

ranga, wholeheartedly agree. i think trisha's just been plain lucky so far.

mitr, pairing up against senior actors like sarath and satyaraj would make sure her days r numbered. she definitely has a tough choice to make now. will be interesting to c what she does :)

anon, wow good eyes :)

Laila is married.

Coming to the topic, I think the main problem is the narrow storylines. Even a 60 year old Vijaykanth needs a love-line attached to his film. If we can break away from the romance-needed concept(at least, the need to make mature artists look like they are 30) than we can get some good heroine characters. I would be bored if I had to see a heroine-oriented film. A film should be have everything. Personally, I stopped watching Ajith, Vijay, Rajni, Kamal and most films long time back. Names don't pull me to the theatre anymore, only the film verdict. So I have come to easily pass these nonsensical films they make. I don't think that a mature Rajni and Kamal need young girls like Shriya or Kiran.

Until the day comes when the industry grows up, I doubt any heroine will actually make a comeback after marriage. Even the great Kajol, I doubt, would be accepted if she didn't go into hiatus every 3-4 years.

To add to the last post by Bhuvan, Bhanupriya did a classic role in K.Viswanath's SwarnaKamalam. She looked gorgeous and her bharathanatyam dances were stunning. I would equal them with Kamal in Saagara Sangamam, but add a lot more grace to the equation.

ferrari, yeah i think it was around the time 'paramasivan' was released :)

kajan, i think every cinema has big stars who make the movie run and in whose movies the heroines r little more than dolls. but there r enough movies being made without these big stars. heroines dont seem to be having good roles in these either.

bhuvan, by the same token simran has had such roles too in movies like 'vaali' and 'kannathil muthamittaal'. i think she too bridged the divide u mention very well...

I wish Simran comes back as a "Herione" and most of her fans wish so and would definitely accept her ;-))
