Happy Birthday Simran!

I know there's been an overload of Simran news the past few days. But I just couldn't let this important day pass by, especially since I just knew about it today :-)

Unlike Jo, who grew on me rather slowly, it was love at first sight with Simran. Though I did not see Once More, her first film, I was smitten ever since I first laid eyes on her on the big screen in VIP. While we went to the film for Prabhu Deva's dancing and Rambha, all we could talk about when we came out of the theater was the 'new heroine'. After that I sought out movies she acted in, even seeing movies like Poochoodavaa in the theater.

She has been my favorite heroine ever since. I swooned(with the rest of TamilNadu) when she shook her hips to Manam Virumbudhe... in Nerukku Ner, I laughed at her loveable naivete in Vaali, I was surprised in her villainous turn in Paarthen Rasithen, I enjoyed her comic flair in Pammal. K. Sambandham, I admired her matured performance in Kannathil Muthamittaal and I enjoyed her dancing in New.

Happy Birthday to Simran...

Balaji, don't have your way with words. All I can say is "Amen" :)

From her latest pics, looks like she's getting back into shape. But I don't think she can command a presence again. Can go the Saami padam, Karan's heroine, TV serial route, but no more #1.

Happy Birthday, Simiiiiiiiiii!

ennode Simi jollistry:

it wasnt until "kannethirey thondrinaal" that i got really attracted to her...she was breathtakingly beautiful in the "kanave kalaiyaathey" song, esp. in that maroon dress, dancing with prashanth near the waterfalls...

in fact, believe it or not, i wasnt even all that impressed by her turn in vaali...i did like her in that but thought it was Savitha's voice that added gloss to her performance...her turn in "paarthen rasithen" was what really made me fallllllll for her...the scene where she says, "neeyum naanum kaadhalikra madhiri, nadikkroma? enna solra, shankar?" was superbly acted by her...and the "thinaathey" song...venaam, kaalangaarthala, manasu engengo povudhu...i'll quit now;)

"Paarthen Rasithen" was really Simran's show. Even Raghuvaran who has a very strong screen presense faded into the background when Simran appeared. I hope she comes back to acting. I miss seeing someone as versatile and beautiful as her in tamil movies.

Happy birthday thalaivi.

Agree with you what you say about VIP. She was just too beautiful, especially in the 'eeachankaattila mayil onnu' song. It was just pristine beauty :) Performance-wise, I too would rate Paarthen Rasithen marginally better than Vaali.

I think Sim looks ugly now! No offence what so ever....she was a real beauty once....no doubt about that. But now, especially with the rash(dont know what it is) near her upper lip,she looks bad... She reaaaaaallllly cannot make it back to heroine spot, let alone catch the top again...

BB, I think you(and a lot of other bloggers here) are prejudiced when it comes to sim....

honest opinion by anon.

Sri, sorry romba unarchi vasappatuten nenaikiren! will correct it :)

sanj/missy, sure she does. and if she blogged, she's probably have a similar post on surya's bday :)

anon, she is older and just had a baby. so yeah she doesn't look as good as she did b4 (though i wouldn't go so far as to call her ugly!). and if u c the prev posts u'll see that even we admitted that she probably couldnt come back as a heroine. ellaam oru nappaasai dhaan since i've always said itll be nice if her last film's a hit...

and considering she was my fav actress for most of the last decade, some prejudice is unavoidable :)

filbert, 'eechangaatila' paatula vandhadhu ramba, not sims...u r thinking of "minnal oru kodi" i sps...

Yeah Ram, I was wrong. I was implying the 'mayilu mayilu mayilamma' song, where both Rambha & Simran were great. No doubt, she looked good in the Minnal oru kodi song too :)

filbert, yeah, but i feel Simran taking Kollywood by storm post-VIP (think it was mid-'97) really hastened Rambha's fade from the industry...but at least Simran was/is a gr888 actress...Rambha- cant think of a single memorable "performance" in her resume...whereas Sims-ku oru top five-e podalaam
1. kannathil muthamittaal
2. paarthen rasithen
3. vaali
4. PKS
5. priyamanavale...

ram, yeah i dont think any heroine in the recent past could match Simran. She was really a complete package with the looks, the figure, the dancing and the acting. but talking of VIP, I was impressed with the way Rambha matched Prabhu Deva's steps in the 1st song in the film...

actually the movie had some really good songs. whatever happened to the music director?

Balaji, exactly my thoughts on the 'Netru no no' song where more than Prabhu Deva (whose dancing prowess needs no introduction), it was Rambha who impressed me the most, matching Prabhu Deva step for step. That song, along with the 'Muqabula', are the 2 songs where I felt the heroines' great dancing was overshadowed by Prabhu Deva
