Netru Indru Naalai
That's Simbhu and Simran dancing to the classic Raakkammaa Kaiya Thattu... at Netru Indru Naalai, a show organized yesterday in aid of The Banyan, a home for the mentally challenged (more pics here and here). Created by Manirathnam, Vasanth, Rajeev Menon and Sabu Cyril, the program featured today's stars dancing to the tunes of yesterday(and the day before!).
Would surely have been interesting to see Simbhu dance to Raakkammaa... and Thillaana Thillaana..., Shaam shake his legs to Ilamai Idho Idho..., Ramesh Arvind snap his whip for Naan Aanaiyittaal..., Vineeth and Shreya twist to Cha Cha Cha..., Shilpa Shetty dance to Chaiya Chaiya... and ofcourse Kamal sing Thenpaandi Cheemaiyile.... Set designer Sabu Cyril gets high praise and from the sets in the photos, it looks like he sure deserves it.
Wonder if they'll show this on Sun TV any time soon...

They are releasing the DVD of the programme on 1st of march :-)
No, Balaji. It was an event that was already decided to be shown on Vijay TV. It was supposed to happen during my visit to India last August, but got postponed due to unexpected rains at that time. Time you got Direct TV? :-)
I doubt whether they will show this in SUN... !!
Sabusiril done a wonderful job, by making new sets for each and every songs within 2 minutes..
Balaji,
You've not mentioned one other biggie that was part of this show...ARR :-)
Wow... looks like they all had a blast.
apart from the sets, i dont think (at least from what i see in the reviews) that this show was an unqualified success...looks like the youngsters in the crowd were a lil'l lost, while presented with some vintage classics...maybe the 'no compere; no announcements' idea wasnt such a great one.
but, the concept seems nice...
and, simran? she looks ghastly...saw some pics of her on indiaglitz...maybe she should've taken some time to regain her fitness (after her pregnancy) and then made her comeback...
ferrari, cool. can't wait :)
sandya, darn! indha madhiri few more programs in vijay tv... directv will be real tempting :)
arvind, i just got those names from the rediff article. don't think they mentioned arr. but with all old songs, not sure how much arr would've contributed. were they remixes??
merino, yep!
ram, i read that in rediff too but seems kinda weird. u really think today's youngsters wouldn't have heard of 'naan aanaiyittaal'? maybe a few songs but characterizing them as 'completely lost' as rediff did seems like exaggeration...
and ditto on simran :(
the song from the film "ambikapathy" (mentioned in the rediff slides) was the one that i didnt recognize...yeah, as i said, the rest are indeed 'vintage classics.' maybe this one, as well...just that i didnt know abt it...
as an aside, i have this playlist in my iPod titled, "(G)old songs" man, sometimes i listen to a number that i hadnt heard b4 (i got this collection from a friend of mine) and i just become humbled by the thamizh and the karuthu in those songs...one recent e.g. is "kannaa, karumai nira kanna"...itz a lovely song (dunno the film) where the lady (shunned by ppl, due to her dark complexion, from what i get) explains her plight to a krishnar statue...wonderful, wonderful lyrics...
Yes, re-instrumented, according to the initial plan and ARR composed a special song for the event.
Well,
All in all, it looks visually pleasing. I guess a lot of other stars couldn't make it b/c of the date change. I would have expected a better turnout of A list stars, especially the actors.
