Rollover!

Nope, this is not a plug for Cingular wireless! Its just excitement at the fact that Karthik has recently started turning over to lie on his tummy. After all, rolling over is a big achievement for him. He can now lift his neck and see stuff that he didn’t even know existed. I’m sure it has given him a whole new perspective on things.

Turning over is pretty much the first big full-body maneuver for him (as it is for any baby). So far he has smiled, reached out with his hands and grabbed and kicked his legs. But those actions seemed to happen naturally. Turning over is the first thing that he really tried to do. It wasn’t an easy ride though. There were a lot of painfully unsuccessful attempts as he was unable to push himself over his shoulder and fell back down, thumping the back of his head on the playmat. But he kept at it until he got the hang of it (wonder who he got that from… not me!).

Watching him roll over is as exciting for us as it is for him. The first rollover is a rather momentous occasion and I still remember, right down to the dress she was wearing, the first time Kavya achieved it. The anticipation as he turns to the side and then down and finally pushes himself over his shoulder… the excitement during the last ball of a cricket match or the thrill of the minutes leading upto Rajni’s introduction in a new movie don’t even come close!

He has now pretty much mastered the art. And he obviously likes it since anytime we leave him lying on his back for even a few seconds, he ends up on his tummy! But each time he turns over and then gives me that wide, toothless smile of victory, I understand the meaning of the word ‘perseverance’ all over again!

I can understand the excitement u must be going through - I saw my nephew growing up - he is just 21 months now - so currently still seeing him grow up ;) - his first smile - his first reaction to different gerber food - he hated spinach like nobody's business - still remember the frown on his face - his first rollover - his first attempt to stand up - his first attempt to walk - and his first few steps - and now the different words he talks - Everything is such a pleasure to be there and enjoy it. Enjoy Balaji

Congrats...

it'll only be a matter of time before he crawls then walks.

These, I'm guessing (innum anuvickalla with my own, but I have had plenty of kids (nephews, nieces, cousins) grow up around me) are some of the best moments of your life...

Hey Balaji..

Tell me all about it.. It's truly an exhilirating feeling to watch a baby rollover. I had the same feeling when Mahalakshmi achieved the huge feat.. Of course, she had a cheer squad consisting of two sets of grandparents (they wouldn't agree if I told you that they did!), but one grandma in particular :-) had a fun time helping M turn over by actually doing it for her.. (purely because M was 85% there, according to her!).

We ganged up on that grandma often.. but even that was pleasurable for her..

These pleasures last a lifetime.. enjoy, revere and savor them.. it makes life all the more worthwhile to live! :-)

He is so adorable. Yep, first rollovers are fun. I remember both of mine. This time is so precious. Enjoy it while you can. When they get mobile and start turning the house upside down, these memories can keep us sane ;-)

that's great. my prayers are that he turns out to be the naughty one, unlike Kavya, for whom you didn't have to child-proof your home! Misery loves company!
