Coming Soon - Thavamaai Thavamirundhu
Any new movie of Cheran is cause for celebration for lovers of quality Tamil cinema. All his movies so far have been well-intentioned, clean films that touched us at some level, either through the message they conveyed or through the emotions they explored. He is one of the few directors who has understood the power of the visual medium. Like KB before him, he understands that a picture (i.e. a scene) is worth a 1000 words and conveys emotions visually than through dialogs or action. He possesses great imagination and creativity and his directorial touches are proof of that.
His first few movies were downbeat affairs. They took up heavy topics like caste, physical disability and corruption in politics and presented them without sugarcoating the issues. Though Bharathi Kannamma and Porkkaalam were hits, the excellent Desiya Geetham was a disaster, which made him rethink his ways. But his answer, the optimistic and commercial Vettri Kodi Kattu, was disappointing. Commercial cinema was clearly not his forte and his efforts to add commercial elements to his style were half-hearted.
With Paandavar Bhoomi, he finally found his niche. He concentrated on human emotions and relations, relegating the social message to the background, to come up with a moving tale. He sharpened the same in Autograph, his biggest hit to date, where he completely abandoned the ‘message’ to present a simple but heartfelt tale of love.
The title and the trailer point to him continuing the trend in his next film - the eagerly anticipated Thavamaai Thavamirundhu. The film has not had it easy so far. Initially scheduled for Diwali, it became embroiled in financial problems and doubts were raised about it being released this year. But it looks like it will make it to screens this Saturday itself. The film is supposed to be about the love between parents and their offspring - a topic Cheran could do full justice to.
After Gopika in Autograph, Cheran introduces another heroine from Malayalam films, Padmapriya. She doesn’t look very pretty in the pictures, especially compared to recent Malayalam imports like Gopika, Navya Nair, Nayan and Asin. I’m hoping she’s just not photogenic but make up for it with her performance. The cast also includes Rajkiran and Saranya. Music is by Sabesh Murali.
With Kanda Naal Mudhal also just released, this weekend might just be the real Diwali for fans of good cinema.

Hi Balaji,
I heard this movie is about relationship with Father and son.
yea as you said...Cheran could do better in this movie.
Do you read is somewhat autobiography in VIKATAN? really good in touching the family members feeling and express well so far.
Balaji,
For Thavamai Thavamirunthu, the music scored by Sabesh Murali..not by Srikanth Deva.
Sabesh sung a song 'Ore oru oorile' like Bharadwaji did 'Gyabagam Varuthe..' in Autograph.. Every Songs are different from one another, where one song is starting as a 'Oppari' and slowly getting high-beated music.. Already 'ore oru oorila' is the talk of the town.
Rishi,
I hope Cheran is writing the story of TT in the name of 'During Talkies' in Vikatan..bcos TT was previously named as 'During Talkies' and the pictures of TT printed there, are resembling the moments described by him..
rishi, no i havent read the autobiography in 'vikatan'.
karthi, thanx. i've corrected it in the post.
i havent heard the songs yet. u're description has tempted me. will surely listen this weekend.
is it?? i dont think.
I heard his father is a Ticket seller in a movie theare? is this is true then i think the writing in Vikatan is somewhat his story ..else sure it will be story of TT.
But i think (IMO this will be his own story plus some fiction).
TT is a combination both reality and imagination of Cheran..Not 100% reality..You can remember last line of last week 'During talkies' with the line of 'Friends death' of 'Gyabagam Varuthe' in Autograph.
In the list of troubles, Balaji, you forgot to mention Cheran's many heartaches and unhappiness over TT's quality which he shot in the digital format (he tried his hand at it after Kamal did in "Mumbai Express"). He was so disappointed with the technology, he went back to shooting everything over again in film!..
To be honest, I would really have preferred if TT had stayed away from the theaters till Pongal. The rains have really dampened the mood and interest of Chennaities.. I feel both Kanda Naal Mudhal and TT face almost certain doom at this week's box office (regardless of the good quality of the films, word of mouth or press reviews).
Balaji, TT comes to town 12/16.
yea...Karthi,
but in the photos' and trailor...Rajkiran is working in a printing press.
But in Vikatan he explain that his childhood and also this week he started like the first part of Autograph already :):)
so is that Autograph is his own autobiography??
:)
Hey guys I heard that the movie is 3:42 min long with two intervals. Is it true?
Please visit my blog(just started writing, kindly bear with me)http://girisopinion.blogspot.com/
Got the idea after visiting this blog from balaji(great one).
What Cheran beautifully narrates in Vikatan is his own story.. I remember him telling in an interview that I read somewhere that many parts of "autograph" is from his own life. We can expect many parts of TT from what he narrates in Vikatan.
Am looking forward to TT releasing tomorrow (though not sure if it will make it to bangalore). The songs are really good. "ore oru", "enna paarkirai" and "unnai charanadainden" are really good.
Though Padmapriya acted first in malayalam (kazhcha, i believe), she is actually a Tamilian. So probably we might find an actress who can actually dub for herself :)
Yes, the movie diwali started with "kasthooriman", continuing with "kanda naal muthal" and "TT". Moving on, some minor expectations on "June R", "Sadhurangam", "Parijatham" and "Kalabakkathalan".
Hope and wish the rains make way for good cinema...
yes giri. But now it was edited to 3:11 and not a double-interval flim
And also visit my blog http://mkarthik.blogspot.com/
I also started to write after reading balaji's thots, eventhough i created my blog last year.
Sify's review of Kanda Naal Mudhal - http://sify.com/movies/tamil/review.php?id=14022805&ctid=5&cid=2429
hi,
Already booked the tickets for TT in sathyam (sunday noon show). Though my expectations are high, i am prepared to get disappointed considering the movie's length. Even, 3:11 hours is lengthy for such an emotional movie. I really doubt whether Cheran can strike the chord this time like Autograph. couldn't get tickets for KNM. The reviews are positive.
Padam paarka rasigars neengal ellamum 'thavamaai thavamirukkengalakkum'!!!
i actually came to your blog to tell you about this movie being release. partha nethu night'e blog panniyacha :).
I think Sandya already posted about this being released in IMC6. Wish I was in Chennai now, could've seen this tonight.
After a year of crap movies, this one is my only hope. Hopefully this one lives up the expectation.
That new entrant Padmapriya is an MBA and works/ed for GE, Bangalore it seems.

One of the first reviews from Sify.com
Do I even have to tell you what Sify's overwhelming response is? :-)
Expecting it in theatres for a long time.. Still not sure if it is going to make it this saturday.
I am not sure whether Cheran will emote well, since I was not convinved few scenes in 'Autograph'. Let us and wait see, if has improved in that area.
hey balaji it is going to be releasing in IMC6 on 16th december - Hope to see it on the first day itself
The movie has got positive review from Sify
i am hoping that the picturization on KNM is good. . it is #1 on my toddlers chart. last year her #1 chart topper was lajjavathiye.. and i had such a let down when i watched the video..as for 3:11 min movies.. aala vudungappa.. indha ulagaththulaye titanic pakkadha ore aalu naandhan...toooo long.
sandya, pongal has quite a few high-profile movies. and inspite of cheran's record, theatres would probably go for movies like aadhi, paramasivan, etc. with top heroes. so he might be better off releasing it now.
wish it was coming here earlier :(
karthik/giri, thanx :)
suresh, lucky you :)
me too, nichayamaaga. especially after the recent string of movies!
narayanan, so r u in the bay area too?
ramc, looks like advance booking is open. so it will probably make it.
aatma, will be waiting for that weekend. adhuku munnadi 6 pakkanume :)
btw, guess u're back from your india trip?
sundar, based on the sun tv trailer, the songs r picturized suitably, especially 'erimalai naane' and 'kookoovena'...
sundar,
nope bb, am in opposite coast. saw this in Indiaglitz :).
Kanda Naal Mudhal looks to me like a normal triangle love story, not much different (i did'nt see the movie, but know the story almost).

Sify's overwhelmingly positive review is strange considering that they had criticized "Autograph" as too long and emotional. I do expect a lot from the movie, but still couldn't trust Sify's review fully.
Any idea when its releasing in B'lore - not this weekend i guess?
And i certainly wouldn't accept that "Autograph" had no message - it is only that it is subtly told. I liked the movie more for its messages, rather than for the emotions or nostalgia.
i hv watched the film . if u hv patience n if u r not in a hurry go to this film which is 3.30 hrs includin the interval . the movie is emotional like cheran's movies but its too slow for my likin . dun forget to get u r handkerchief........
i have seen the movie and posted my revu in my blog
Finally here. And based on the 2 reviews so far (Sify and Suresh), looks like it is very good. Yay!
Film was well narrated by Cheran and he did now with the relationship of Father, which very hard to see in Tamil films. It's sure the flim will pickup. But donno whether the people have that much of patience.
After I seeing the film, made a call to my father.
Really Cheran did that magic, what he wants.
You can see my review in my blog.
