Thambi Mangal?

That's Madhavan and Pooja in the soon-to-be-released Thambi. Look's like someone's seen Mangal Pandey, huh? :-)

hi balaji
went for the shoot
vadivel was in a kaNNai parikkum jolikkum valikkum shirt...:)
pooja actually speaks good tamizh for a non-tamilian:)
news is it shd release for pongal?
maddy has been busy playing/being dad and doing the sony game show...
vedanth is his vaarisu now:)
I thought Pooja was Tamil! There are some better shots of him from this movie :-)
Munimma,
Pooja is half-Kannada and half-Sinhalese. So if you plot a place on the India map, these Tamilnadu or Kerala maybe the mid point.
hi balaji,
Well hope the similarity ends with the hair style though :(.Anyways Madhavan needs this movie to succeed badly.
Madhavan is the A-center version of Vijay. The guy tries nothing new, doesnt improve himself and continues signing one garbage film after another. Only thing is his movies havent seen the BO success that Vijay's films have. And I am thankful for that.
Looks like Thambi Krantiveer. Hehe the title was too good :).
Kind of agree with vijay's comments, Ayitha Ezhuthu being the only exception to it.

Vijay,
Name one film that Vijay did where he didn't run around trees with the heroine, do an item number with a Bollywood/Kollywood heroine and throw fists against thugs?.. I can name two films right off the top where Madhavan didn't do that: "Anbe Sivam" and "Kannaththil Muthamittaal"..
I can't believe there are those who believe "Anbe Sivam" to be a garbage movie where Madhavan tried nothing different. Whether what he tries works or not is another issue, but he has really tried to take challenging roles so far (at least in a few instances!)..
Can't imagine Vijay ever coming close to trying a role like "Kannaththil Muthamittal" or even anything like "Aaydha Ezhuthu".. Some may call "Nala Damayanthi" a repeat act of Kamal's work in MMKR.. but I thought Madhavan did very well in that role.. He was very funny when he needed to be..
If you can make a case against Maddy, it'll probably have to be with films like Jay Jay, EnnavaLe, Priyasakhi, Priyamaana Thozhi, Paarthale Paravasam... but not with any of the films he did for Maniratnam, or even Minnale and Run as they did well at the BO..
I don't know if the intention is to give Vijay a compliment, but surely is an insult to Maddy when you call him an "A Center Vijay".. After all, at the end of the day, Mr. Vijay is trying to become the next Rajini while he is still thirty-something, but Rajini became a true superstar (only after 40+) enough to guarantee slam dunks at the box office only after "Annamalai." (Until then, he had his share of missteps like "Pandian" and "Uzhaippaali" too!)..
Since we are in a mood to jab Maddy, we may actually do a fine job of it: Maddy doesn't swish fingers, churn out punch dialogues and have his director come out somewhere in the middle of the movie, and say something like "Avan adikkardhu-la gilli, udhaikkardhu villi".. whatever!..
vijay/narayanan, i have to agree with sandya on this. AE alone is enuf proof for me that maddy is not averse to trying new things. i can't think of any other hero who would play a bad guy role like that. so i don't agree with the statement that he doesn't try anything new. romantic lead, masala hero, dad of 3 kids, bad guy, NRI - he's had quite a bit of variety in his career so far...
i do fault him on not improving himself though. surya has proved that one can improve dance skills with practice. but maddy doesn't seem to want to improve himself and is still jumping around in song sequences the way he jumped around in his early career :)
In NO defense of Maddy, some people just can't dance and Maddy has been very vocal about that fact in all his interviews.. Well, most of us are born with two left feet and Maddy is no exception. And maybe, just maybe, Maddy will never be able to improve because he doesn't even have the inherent flair for the art.. Surya, on the other hand, had to work very hard to where he has gotten to now.. but lucky for him, his feet do tap well to tune now.. Remember when Raju Sundaram subbed for him in "Poovellam Kaettupaar" in the Irava Pagaala song?!.. I really laugh at that now!..
If Maddy can be accussed of poor judgement (that is, if there is any truth to press reports!) it is his decision of not giving full attention to A.R.Murugadass who came to discuss a script with him.. It may very well been the "Ghajini" script (also remember the film titled "Mirattal" with Ajeeth and Asin which never took off which Murugadass was supposed to helm!).. Both Ajeeth and Maddy may have lost out that script to Surya.. It was said that Maddy spent his time watching his dog give birth to puppies and didn't pay any attention to Murugadass (I guess, we all can assume what we like with regards to this.. especially since that's what the press says!)..
I guess, "Ghajini" was meant to fall into Surya's lap.. Either way, Maddy lost out big time..
Anyone happen to catch the scary trailer of Thambi on SUNTV sometime ago?
From the looks of it, I thought Thambi is gonna be Kambi in that movie...
I dislike maddy
Sandya: FYI, Pandian and Uzhaippali came after Annamalai..Thot Rajini became a true Superstar after Billa.
merino, oh yeah. with that old lady(or man??!!) singing a song right? scary's the right word for that :)
Anonymous.. thanks for that info.. goes to prove that Rajini-kkum adi sarukkum.. I guess, that will start happening to Vijay very soon. Did you any of guys read this sify article: Is Vijay overexposed?
sandya, ivlo periya maddy fan'a neenga :).
anyways am not complaining about his theramai or equalling him with Vijay's. he sure does, otherwise he would'nt have excelled in the movies you mentioned. It does'nt matter whether he's able to dance or not (Do you think Vikram is able to dance properly?)
My only concern is about going on a stereo routine (which almost everyone does, the popular example being Vijay)that (unfortunately) did'nt work for him.
You don't need sign for movies that branding you that way and does'nt make a box office impression as well right?

Superstars, superstar wannabes shouldn't know how to dance ;-) That is a definite prereq.
Maddy, (I am not a big fan but I don't dislike him) is kind of a misfit because he was brought up in Jamshedpur and lived outside of TN. I would say he did well in quite a few movies, Anbe Sivam, Nala Damayanthi (ok, a bit overdone here), AE (awesome here). I liked him in Run and also that other movie, forget the name, the funny one where he acts like a rowdy. BTW, his real life personality sucks! No charisma there.
Vijay, the only movie where he acted, or tried to, was Friends. So comparisons should end there :-)
Narayanan.. your comments on Maddy are well-taken, but I have only one problem with the way people criticize Maddy and the reasons for which they do it. Come on, it's not like MGR, Sivaji, Rajini or Kamal never did stereotypical roles in the long number of years that they have been in the movie industry.. to say that Maddy is subjecting himself to stereotypical characters or acting styles is being very unfair, considering the entire Tamil industry thrives on typecasting...
Well, let's take a typical situation here.. Maddy had just finished Aaydha Ezhuthu and received rave reviews for his performance. On the heels of that role, he got a chance from K.V.Anand to do the villain role in "Kanaa Kandaen," which he politely refused. Though I personally think that Maddy may have very well nailed the role as much as Prithviraj did, he said 'no,' fearing that he may be typecast into anti-hero or villain roles if he continued on the same AE strain...
This is a never ending and sometimes confusing decision for actors like Madhavan (I don't think he was wrong in saying "no" to the KK role), but it is a difficult choice when you have to choose between challenging roles and surviving as a viable hero in tamil cinema.
maddy's days r over . better he go and continue doin tht game show in sony tv. his only strength was women fans , tht too young ones , but by the look of it now this entire set of ladies fans hv shifted to admire surya it seems .
its always better to be a mass masala hero thn a hero like maddy .
for eg priyasakhi was a gud film but it had a luke worm response at the BO . bcoz maddy had a string of flops bfore this film priyasakhi din do well . But consider vijay wen he had a string of flops for 2 years or so and then when tirumalai had released , u must hv seen the crowd at the theatres . Irrespective of the result of the film and the stars past recoed these mass heroes get a grt openin which makes the producers happy which may not happen with a hero like maddy.
thts y producers will always go behind heroes like vijay , ajith etc even if they hv a string of flops.
see ajith had not had a gud film for past 2 yrs i think . even then the industry is goin ga-ga over his next release and the theatres r fightin to get the film bcoz they xpect the film to take a grt openin , which at hte end is the imp one . Money matters .
So its better for maddy to go home . Also for prashanth .Once some 7 or so yrs back there used to be this trio Vijay-Ajith-Prashanth . when ajith n vijay were doin mass hero kinda roles , prashant hdid chocolate boy roles . the first two r still in the limelight but prashanth is not. prashanth n ajith wud be in the same stage of not deliverin hits in the past few years but prople r expectin eagarly for ajith's next release while they wud dun even know wats prashanth's next film wud be..........
so maddy , prashanth go home . Bye Bye
its gud tht surya is doin a mass hero role in Aaru.
