Kolangal Surprises

Viewers who stumbled upon the Sun TV serial Kolangal last week (going by past comments, I'm not sure there are many!) may have been wondering if Devayani's hit serial was still a megaserial. In just one week, it broke not one but two of the defining characteristics of megaserials.

1. The story made a lot of progress

Devayani's dad had left her mom a long time ago to marry another, richer woman. But now he had actually become close both Devayani and her brother(ofcourse both sides were unaware of the relationship between them). Last week, he finally saw Devayani's mother, whom he recognised as his ex-wife and realised that Devayani and her brothers and sisters are in fact his own children!

2. Devayani had something positive happen to her and none of the characters in the serial cried for the entire half hour

Devayani's brother(i.e. her dad's son from his second marriage) has been fighting a case against her and the court last week ruled in her favor. So the entire family got together to savor the good news and none of them had reason to cry.

Just goes to show that even megaserials can spring pleasant surprises sometimes!

PS: Kolangal has been moved to the 7pm PST slot from tonight, a much more convenient timeslot for me. So watch this space for more details :-)

Look at the state of the tamil TV viewers.. a blog out of surprise that no one cried for 20 min!! Lucky I havent seen any of those mega serials ever.. I remember the old times (late 80's and early 90's) when there were some really good ones like "Paramarthaguvum seedargalum", timeless classics of SV Sekar and Crazy Mohan and many others, whose purpose was to make people to LAUGH.. Even the ladies enjoyed it..

SOMEONE PL PL PL BREAK THIS CURRENT CRYING TREND AND BRING SOME LAUGHTER FROM PEOPLE PLEEEEASE..

I did not watch Kolangal or most other serials when I was back in Chennai (a year back). But I had to visit Chennai in Dec and "caught up" with most serials..

Idellam nadandurukkuna, Kolangal koodiya seekram mudiya poradunnu artham.

Also, there was this veetukku veedu looty which I used to see apart from Sahana. That used to be funny..I dont know if it is still on air or has become stale ...:)

gp, guess u havent seen any of the current comedies on tv! i've seen a couple of them but couldn't even sit thro the entire 20 mins. loud, painful, crude, silly irritating comedy. i'll take a megaserial any day over 1 of those comedies!!

potpourri, yeah i kinda had that thot too. but that would be kinda disappointing. after seeing abhi suffer for sooooo long, it would be nice to see her win atleast for a while :)
i guess VVL's not on sun tv. havent heard of it...

Kolangal is now taken in several directions to pass years and increase No/ of episodes. Not a healthy practice in TV net work. People like to watch TV serials for one year. Atleast they should get new serials once in a year. Thiruselvan wanted to occupy the TV continuously for years not to allow any other directors to come inside. Sorry to note such habits.
Y'day serial --Abi at Air port Total waste- simply to run the episode what was important in it ?
