Now that Rajini has given a 'bonafide' hit, do you think he needs to stop acting as a lead actor?

Should he try to make a transition like Amitabh Bachchan and play roles that suits his age. Bachchan found the transitioning phase very difficult. I think he found the right role in Major Saab after a string of flops.

I am a hardcore Rajini fan and a part of me wants him to act like he always has but logically thinking I guess its time for him to seriously think about the next phase of his acting career.

He needs to leave tamil cinema alone for some rejuvenation!
Hes really anchored it with a certain stereotyped roles and not letting any kind of experimentation or scope for improvement!
The worst of all influence is hes indirectly influencing the emerging young? actors to emulate him and his stupid antics on screen!
Now thats certainly not a healthy trend for tamil movies!

Who really told them to copy him anyways?

What can he do if all the others are buncha lemmings?

ram, superstart kaatula epovum puyal thaan. edho 3 yrs munadi konjam slowa irundhudhu avlo thaan :)

pagalak, u've kinda asked the question i've been asking myself since 'baba'. i think he should start making that transition too. even in CM, the makeup was rather blatant in closeups and his slow movements during dancing and fighting was sad, especially to us fans who've grown up on his uniquely fast movements. i think a movie like 'padaiyappa', with him playing an older man for the most part and a short flashback of the 'young' rajni would make a good transition film.

rajesh, me thinks u're a little too harsh on him. i agree with the stereotyping and lack of experimentation. but there r others for that, arent there? he found a niche that works to his advantage and cultivated it nicely. but where there was an MGR, there was a sivaji and when there's a rajni, there's a kamal too. not everyone needs to keep experimenting and improving all the time. hollywood too had an arnold alongside an al pacino... each caters to a different section of the audience and even to different needs in the same viewer.

and success always breeds imitators. but the imitation rarely works unless the imitators have something else to offer too. the fluff will be eliminated from the young actors who imitate him. sure there might be one who takes his place but the others will have to work to find a niche for themselves. they will find their strengths and appreciation for those strengths. thats what will keep tamil cinema moving forward.
take simbhu. he seemed to be imitating rajni but when that didnt seem to work, he tried a different track in 'manmadhan' that made people sit up and notice him.

A news I read in ToI today..

A rajini fan somewhere in TN has seen CM 100 times in 100 days (once everyday). He saw the movie for the first 50 days spending his own money and when the theatre knew this, they let him see the next 50 days for free to make it a record !!!

CM has proved that song
'Singhathin kalgal pazthupattalum seetram kuraivadhundo'
Even Amitab couldnt do it, this man has done it. Saw CM in original DVD :)
its ok movie, enjoyed the comedy of vadivelu and Rajini, only sore thing is Rajini doing double meaning jokes.
Rajini please dont repeat this again.
