Anniyan Trailer - The Longer Version

Saw Kanaa Kanden Saturday evening and an added bonus was the full-length trailer of Anniyan. Clips from all the songs were shown in this version and they definitely seemed to be picturized in an eye-poppingly grand manner. Kumaari..., picturised in the Amsterdam flower show, offered some breathtaking shots of the beds of colorful flowers. Andankaakkaa... was a riot of colors with everything from lorries to houses to mountains being painted with lots of different images. Kannum Kannum... looked hitech and almost futuristic in both locations and the getups of Vikram and Sada. Iyengaru Veetu... looked rich and colorful while Vikram and Yana Gupta danced to Kaadhal Yaanai... in a trendy club setting.

A few pieces of dialog accompanied the scenes, which also included a few not seen in the trailer on the web. The trailer definitely hinted at a Gentleman/Indian kind of film with a timid Vikram getting fed up with the ills of society and becoming a vigilante. But a couple of shots showing Vikram's transformation(accompanied by imagery of a frog) were quite intriguing.

Balaji.. Yes.. Shankar pays so much attention into his trailer and elevates the expectation levels of his target audience. I have seen the trailers of his first three movies and they have been breathtaking.. Esp. Indian..

He has the art of making even small scenes look so big in trailer. An example was Chokkalinga Bhagavathar yelling and running with a knife in his hand.. and a guy bleeding.. They are completely unconnected scenes in the movie. But, they were put together nicely in the trailer. I think he is the best when it comes to trailers.

BB, did the theatrical trailer give out the release date?

One of the scenes in the online trailer shows Vikram getting knocked onto a lamppost..My freak guess is that the timid Ambi gets bumped off by the bad guys and is somehow resurrected as 'Anniyan'..But just like gp mentioned, Shankar is very good at cutting teasers and it could be just anything!

gp, yes and he certainly succeeds in raising expectations for 'anniyan' with this trailer. esp. compared to other generic trailers which r simply clips from the songs.

vijays, nope, no release date. and your guess is the exact impression i got from the trailer too. gotta wait and see...

As you had mentioned, it looks a sequel to his 'n' ending series like 'gentleman''indian''mudhalvan'...with a do-good hero.

The big question is whether these guys will succeed & make profit, considering the huge budget...Shankar has that magical power....let us wait and see...

Hmmmph, give me a Satya anytime...I expect Anniyan will be a decent run. I just hope that Anniyan won't be to Shankar what Troy was to Wolfgang Petersen...a real downer. Our people are becoming more and more exposed to lots of big budget Hollywood extravaganzas. I wonder if Anniyan being released while the new Star Wars movie is out will have any effect on the former. Probably not...

Well, it looks like June 10th will be the A-day at this point.... We'll see! Gosh, I didn't know they were screening the Anniyan trailer at IMC last weekend.. wouldn't have missed Kanaa Kandaen if I had known that!..

Whether it is like Indhiyan or Gentleman or whatever else, the way I see it.. it is a carnival of sorts for filmgoers. The film will rock the box office for this year for sure.. If not anything, Shankar has the midas touch when it comes to song picturization... With the lone exception of Maniratnam, everybody else in Tamil Cinema has to learn from this 'song & dance genius' when it comes to costumes, lighting and creativity..

Welcome back, Shankar! :-)...

it was the same ravichandran who earlier 'confirmed' may 21 as the release date. so i'll wait to get more confirmation :)

yeah, the trailer was a pleasant surprise. shankar definitely has an amazing creativity in song picturizations. based on the trailer, 'andankaakkaa' should be a sight to see on the big screen...

Actually, I was more impressed with "Kumaari." By the way, I lucked out.. I saw the trailer in "Putham Pudhusu" on Sun TV last night.. Felt blessed.. overwhelmed! :-).. The flowers were just so beautiful to look at.. That's when I knew that Shankar would have a repeat audience just for the songs..

I wish someday he would make a masala musical (kind of like West Side Story!).. It would do so well internationally.. given his capabilities in telling stories through his songs!..

Well, my wishing isn't everything.. But I do hope that he does do a musical someday soon!

Well, it looks like the confirmed release date for Anniyan is June 10. Is it normal if I look forward to the Satyaraj starrer EnglishKaran much more than Anniyan?

sandhya, yep the shot where the whole screen was filled with row after row of flowers and vikram-sada were in the center was gorgeous to look at.
musical by shankar... hmmm... good idea. but seeing how his 'lighter' movies(jeans, boys) fared, that might remain wishful thinking!

lol, good question gopi. i'm definitely not part of that group though i do like satyaraj. btw, have u 2 seen him in CM getup in englishkaran? and have u seen 6.2??

a CM spoof defly has potential. i just hope the sequence fits smoothly into the movie. sequences that seem thrust in usually end up being quite ineffective
