Something for the Guys!

- Mallika Sherawat made an appearance at Cannes yesterday since her movie with Jackie Chan, The Myth, is premiering there. I'm sure she turned a few heads in that dress! Reminded me of David Letterman's famous introduction of Dolly Parton, "Ladies and Gentlemen. Here they are, Dolly Parton!" Chris Rock used a similar line when he introduced Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz at this year's Oscars :-)

- Rediff has reproduced In Touch magazine's list of the top ten Hollywood actresses with the best curves. I wanted to come up with a similar list of Tamil actresses i.e. actresses who have been in a reasonable number of Tamil films(can't think of a more enjoyable list compilation than that :-). But the activity turned out to be too distracting at work! But for the moment, here are three who would definitely make it to the top 5 in the list - Simran, Banupriya, Shobana :-)

Man, the rediff representative nalla jollu vittirukkan.. Look at the captions for the fotos.. lucky Jackie chan..luckiest people.. blah blah.. I dont like Mallika sherawat's anything..

Well.. coming to the interesting part of your post, (lots of guts, man!!).. I would like to add Suganya, Manisha Koirala and Reema Sen.
No more.. it surely distracts.

yet another line from sathi leelavathy (see comments on the earlier rajni-kamal post) that would be apt:

Kamal, about guys- "Indhaada Porikkiko-nu Saanso, Saayso Kodukka Koodaathu...Randayume pudichu poduvaange"

Kovai Sarala's reply- "Condeeson-a seivaanga keragam pudichavanga!"

seri, my list...am just going to use lines from songs describing the damsels...doesnt really fit ur criterion of "a reasonable number of tamil films" but still...

10. Mazhaiyum Neeye...Veiyyilum Neeye...
9. Konjam Mirugam...Konjam Kadavull...
8. En Poandra Azhagigala MTV Paarthathille...
7. Shakalakka Baby...
6. Indha Dee Kappakezhangey...
1. - 5. Nee Saivam Thaane Penney? Ennai Kolaathey...

you can add may be Asin to that list from the latest bunch..nothing more...

ram, quite the riddle u have thrown up there... i'm guessing #9 is manisha and #7 is sushmita. Based purely on you being a hardcore sims fan, i'm guessing #s1-5 are simran. do fill in the rest of the blanks(with the movies the songs appeared in:-)

ramc, seen asin in only 1 movie so far. didnt seem really curvaceous. but surely can't discount her either. have to wait and watch :)

you're rite abt 1-5 (song from parthen rasithen), 7 and 9! i'm (pleasantly) surprised u got #9 rite coz i thot ppl would imm. think of anu agarwal from thiruda thiruda (of course, she cld be included in this list too but thaz from '93- i only remember looking at heera then!). #9 referred to manisha's appearance in alavandhan

come on, #8- refers to Urmila not just coz of the line from the thada song from Indian but coz she's truly one of the best n most beautiful models out there (at least from rangeela till mast i.e. before she became an "actress!")

#10 refers to banups...the line is from the song in Azhagan...

1-5--> dead giveaway...no qs asked!

PS: just finished watching dave letterman...he said, in jest of course, that pam anderson would appear on a show called "top heavy" where she plays a "well endowed" officer who would patrol the border looking for trucks that are heavily loaded! kurumbukaara kezham!

I like Pooja. Anyone see her in the SunTV interview around Pongal? She was wearing a green salwar kameez and really looked stellar. What a combination her heritage is: kannada and sinhalese!! I wonder if she has appeared wearing a sari in a movie yet. Until then, don't count your votes :)

ram, u still haven't said who #6 is :)

gopi, illapa. missed her interview. but i do think she is very cute from the little i've seen of her. but u're right, can't judge one on the "curvaceous" scale till they appear in a saree :)

gans, quite possible. implants r quite popular among hindi heroines i hear. manisha too i think...

merino, good catch! i've no idea how i missed her. not just "whole lotta", ramya's ALL woman! 4 of my top 5 spots r now filled :)

#6 is indeed reema sen (song from dhool)

am still recovering from the shock of having missed rams kittu in my top-10 list...

read the foll. in sivaji tone:

enna paa?? baalaaji...enna paa aniyaayamaa irukku...ennode kannukku sight-aaaa irundha ramya-va naan marandhutteneeeee....vayaasaana enna? avalukku nalllla mugevettu irukku...vaalibam irukku...

my ode to rams krish:

Balaji, glad that you included Bhanupriya in your list. Compare her, with the so called heroines of the present day. 80s had some real women as heroines(Madhavi, Amala etc.) compared to today's girls who look like they just passed out of 10th and are yet to grow up(in all ways).Amongst others,Bhanupriya, to me, defined femininity. An actress who was sadly underutilized by a stupid sentiment-driven superstitious film industry prevailing at that time.

I would be eternally thankful for a few simple mercies like Azhagan, Gopura vaasalile etc. :-)

i actually thot of Madhavi and Amala but kinda convinced myself that they were more of the olli-kutchi type (aaha, enna research paathengalaa!!). I liked Ebert's description of Ash (in Bride and Prejudice) - she's the flower of splendid nutrition :)

yes banupriya had it all. beauty(with those large, captivating eyes), good acting, dance skills and an hourglass figure (all of the above were on display in her fisherman dance in 'Azhagan':-) She was awesome in both those movies and was definitely underutilized. was a huge fan of amala too but madhavi somehow never caught my fancy.

"madhavi somehow never caught my fancy."

Y'day, I committed heresy...and lo and behold, u've done so on this fine, sunny Friday afternoon...watch Raja Paarvai again and u will change ur mind...

Banupriya's beauty was on display in Azhagan, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT...but her talent came to the fore in her unforgettable turn as the lovable sister-in-law in "Aaha," one of my all time favs...here's to you, Raji!

Boys, what about Nadiya? ... Radha? =P

At 3:30 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Merino,

Nadiya was too kosher to judge ;-)

Radha was very good, but big sis Ambika was much, much better.

No arguments with Sims, Ramya, Banupriya. Tops in my list as well.

Balaji,

Just checked the Rediff list. Funny that Debra Messing is in it, considering how many jokes in W&G center around her lack of prominence in a certain (critical) part of the anatomy.

At 11:50 PM, Blogger Balaji said...

ram, agree. watched 'rajapaarvai' too long ago and madhavi may be a case of 'out of sight, out of mind'!

merino, have to agree with prakash on both your suggestions there. we don't really know if nadhiya would make the list. and radha seemed a bit too chubby. ambika had the better bod.

prakash, yes debra messing was one of the choices i mentioned as not agreeing with in the original post.

Speaking of Amala reminded me of someone else.. I don't actually know her name, so you guys may have already mentioned her. She acted with Amala in Agninatchthirangal. Amala was prabhu's girl and She was Karthik's. She oozed sex appeal in that swimming pool song and I wouldn't exactly call her skinny.

Unknown, that is Nirosha. But yeah, she did it turn it on in that movie.

When I first saw the stills, I thot it was Silk. There is more than a passing resemblance between the two. But Nirosha is Radika's (half?) sister.

She is on Sun serials now, but you would have a tough time recognizing her. Like a lot of former heroines, she has doubled or tripled in size.

Balaji,
googled for "gopura vaasalile" and got directed here. Cant believe i'm reading this in YOUR blog!!!! :)
