What's Next for Rajni and Kamal?

- Once a Rajnikanth movie is released, rumors about his next film immediately begin to circulate. With Chandramukhi released and a certified superhit, and Rajni showing interest in acting in more films, rumors about his next venture are slowly heating up. The latest rumor has him starring in the Tamil remake of the recent Amitabh Bachan-Akshay Kumar starrer Waqt. While Rajni will obviously don Amitabh's role, his son's role will be taken on by 'Jayam' Ravi, the movie will be directed by Ravi's brother Raja and produced by their father Editor Mohan.

The news also has a personal side since another rumor doing the rounds is that 'Jayam' Ravi is all set to become Rajni's second son-in-law and Rajni doing this movie for Mohan will cement the relationship with his would-be sammandhi. Lets wait and see how true these turn out to be...

- Meanwhile Kamalhassan has signed on for another project before beginning to hunt and play in Gautham's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. He is going to reprise his role as the friend/doctor in Stree Samanya, the Kannada remake of Sathi Leelavathi. The movie is to be directed by his good friend Ramesh Arvind.

Kamal will move on to Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu right after completing the Kannada film. Latest news on the film has him playing a double role with one of the roles said to be a cop while the other is a secret for now.

before 'CM' started, there was a rumour that rajini wanted to end his career with a successful movie and that's why he was doing 'CM'

now the news continues with new movies...

desires never die!!!!

I dont think Rajni would retire for the next 5-6 years.. He would have been surprised to see the magic of make-up, which showed his face as a 'late-20 or early-30' guy. With the phenomenal success of CM, he would surely be tempted to continue acting..

But, Jayam Ravi news is interesting.. Like his son-in-law who emulated MKT Bhagavathar in giving three consecutive hits in the first 3 films, Jayam Ravi is poised to do so and may be more. His forthcoming movies 'Mazhai' and 'Daas' have already attracted lots of expectations.. so, Rajni's in-laws are gonna have one heck of a rivalry..

It seems that Kamal is going to play both the supercop and the hi-tech criminal and the movie would mostly be shot in the states.

yeah! I heard about the Waqt remake..and that it is going to be directed by vasu again ....if the personal side of the story is gonna be true then wow! Jayam Ravi and Soumya will make a good pair...
But i am liking the way Rajini is now taking a step forward in portraying the fatherly roles... he should be following the footsteps of Amitabh bachchan and age gracefully :)

Vettaiyadu Vilayadu seems to be very promising...I saw some pictures and god! Kamal is as hot as ever....he can go one for some more years with hero roles:)

"he should be following the footsteps of Amitabh bachchan and age gracefully"

but whether his fans would allow that to happen is a different question. Especially after seeing the old Rajni back in CM will they like him literally getting old in his next film? :-)Its all in the director's hands.

But I saw a AB movie called Khakee. Even though AB plays his age in that movie, he still ends up bashing the villian in a hand-to-hand combat at the end of the film while the other younger heroes are watching on. So maybe thats the next step for Rajni :-)

Amitabh acted as mainstream hero till recently (rememmber Suryavansh?).. I dont think Rajni would enact father roles atleast he reaches 60.. he has inspirations from our own MGR, then his close friend Rajkumar and Nageshwara Rao to play duet-singing hero till after 60.

Rajini looked like 20 or 30 year old in CM? :-))))))
I thought it was more like wannabe-20 and has-been-30 :-)

sathi leelavathy was one hell of an enjoyable ride...esp the scenes between kamal and kovai sarala...but the real hilarity stemmed out of their awesome coimbatore dialects...wonder how that'll be exploited in kannada...

a sample:
Kamal: "adhen ondra purusan!"
Kalpana: "ondra purushan aavadhu rendra purushan aavadhu...kandraavi!"
Kamal: "'Indha Aalu'-ngaradhu...Nammaalu theno?"
An exasperated Kalpana: "aamaam...endrrra purushan!"

one more tamil-related q...was watching "kadhal kavithai" last nite...Charlie says:

"Kodi Pakkathula Irukkara Marathula Thaan Pookum-nu Sollittaa"

what does that mean?

rajni's next movie should follow the 'padaiyappa' formula - show him as a young guy for a while and then let him age. being old hasnt really stopped him from bashing up the bad guys in front of other young heroes in movies like padayappa, nallavanukku nallavan, etc. and the young portion would give him the opportunity for romance and comedy to keep his fans happy.

btw, has anyone seen 'waqt'? can amitabh's role be tailored to suit rajni's image at all??

Bals, I wrote up a review of that movie on my blog.
