First Role

I'd read somewhere that Trisha had acted in Jodi before her 'official' first film Lesaa Lesaa and finally got the chance to confirm it today. They showed Jodi on Sun TV today and Trisha does have a small role as one of Simran's friends. She looked a bit chubbier and had way less makeup than the Trisha we know today(after all, she was just the heroine's friend!). But quite a difference that made.

While on the topic, another actor I can think of who made the jump directly from small part to hero in the space of 1 film is Shaam. While I thought 12B was his debut, I was surprised to see him as one of Vijay's friends in a scene in Kushi.

I remember seeing Vivek in a single scene role in a Rajnikanth movie from the early 90s. He was slightly chubby looking. I think that movie had both Meena and Roja in it. I know Vivek was in Uzhaipali too. He can be seen in a queue of factory workers (behind Rajni) waiting to get paid. Although I have no idea how big a role he played in that movie since I only watched the first half hour or so before losing interest. It is interesting how (pleasantly) surprised we can get when we notice artists playing minor roles in their pre-popular days.

gopi, Vivek had his debut in the 80s itself, in KB's manadhil urudhi vendum in 87 and he was very popular for his New year eve special mimicry programmes on DD in the late 80s. Its a shame that we had to endure one more decade of goundamani bashing Senthil before Vivek could make his mark finally. His case is more like Vikram's.

I watched Jodi yesterday and was surprised on seeing Trisha too.

Another interesting sighting - I forgot the movie name, not a very popular one-I saw Director Shankar, young and lean, acting as a college student in one of the scenes. It must have been during his assistant director days.

Balaji, I remember mentioning about her in one of your posts. I saw the movie earlier this year and saw a makeup-less, dull Trisha. But, wasnt she the one 'right behind' Simran for most of the scenes when she appeared?

i also noticed this but my friend didn't accept that it was Trisha. After few more scenes, he finally accepted my argument.

be it group dance or normal scenes...only the heroine's / hero's charisma gets projected. other characters are downplayed. hence there is no surprise that Trisha looked a bit dull.

"hence there is no surprise that Trisha looked a bit dull."

Or maybe she just looked the way she appears in real life :)

Balaji,

Add S.J.Surya to this list. Happened to see 'Kizhaku Cheemayile' 2 weeks back in SUN. He comes as one of Napoleon's brother-in-law's friend. Actually i remember someone mentioning in one of u'r previous posts.

vijay, shankar appeared in a couple of movies when he assisted S.A. Chandrasekar in the late 80s / early 90s...he had a pretty big role (as Charanraj's chumcha) in the flop, "Seetha" (if I remember the title right) directed by SAC...good that he stood by the belief that direction should be his day job!

while on this topic, here's a trivia question:

list the KB movies in which Kamal Hassan made a cameo appearance...

I dont have a comprehensive list but I have three or four in mind...

I have seen Nalini doing group dances in some of the older movies.
Pandiyarajan in simma raasi and a few other movies I can't remember
Sathyaraj as a villain's sidekick.

BTW, wasn't Trisha the one who said she wouldn't act, right after she won the Miss Madras title? :-D

Also, a few of my school friends have appeared in 6 to 60, going to school :-D Our school was a favorite shooting spot those days. Mandhira punnagai and anbulla rajinikanth are 2 well known ones.

Pandiarajan in Darling, Darling, Darling

gopi, as vijay said, vivek's been around since the 80s. but got noticed only after 'vaali' i think. btw, that rajni movie u're talking about is 'veera'. he was one of rajni's friends in the flashback.

gp, in many scenes yes. but she also gets to talk to simran about kaadhal and stuff.

anon, true. bhuvan mentioned this in the 'coming soon - A Aa, TJ' post. he was looking for confirmation and it looks like we have a few here :)

ram, seetha??!! thats some memory u have there. don't believe i've even heard of that one :)

zero, i don't remember where the 2 directors u mention showed up in their movies. but of late that list could be quite long i think. even 'Jodi' had its director pravinkanth in it!

and wasn't kamal one of them even in 'aval oru thodarkathai'? he was in luv with sujatha's sis and had that song 'kadavul amaithu vaitha medai' right? don't remember him in 'arangetram' or 'STN' but i think 'thillu mullu' would count as a cameo. 'thappu thaalangal' is another one.

munimma, yeah i remember that about trisha too. thot she said something like directors were lined up at her door until she decided to say yes to priyadarshan.

appo schoolla thalaivara paathirukkiya? :-)

guess i should've made it clearer...i meant kamal's walk-ons/cameos (is there a subtle difference between the two).
here're a few more...
nool veli, paarthaale paravasam, agni sakshi, poikaal kuthirai...

being the ardent kamal fan i am, i've been checking out a lot of his earlier works...any reccos for underrated gems are welcome...

while talking about avargall, its one of his great, mite underrated performances...with some great lines ("Kaadhal Niraivu Kudukkara Sandhoshatha Vida Kaadhal Ninaivu Kudukkara Sandhosham Enakku Podhum")...aided memorably by Junior!!!

I have unfortunately not seen your thalai. it was shot during a summer hols. We all felt cheated. And I barely missed him during 6 to 60. Sridevi, Sathyaraj, Srividhya, Soman, then that Rajini wanna be nalinikanth or something. Suresh, walked by our class (12th) thinking he would impress the girls, but everyone just broke into wild laughter when he strutted by. Ramki was there, chain smoker.

Ram, another walk in was that YGMahendran and God movie, tho not KB's

hmmmm. interesting. i agree with the othere bloggers here that the posse is normally asked to downplay their assets. However, I think in En Swaasa Katre, the posse (in group songs/dance) were much better looking than the lead heroine.

Didn't now either of the facts.!

A lot of heroines start of chubbier and end up slimmer.! ( Some bloat inbetween ...!). Some Heroes as well...!

I liked Shaam in 12-B, sad to see his career taking off very slowly.!! Who knows....We all know the story of Mr.Anniyan who was with no films after his debue.! long long ago.!

Did anyone realise that Jothika would make it big to today's level when she acted in that small dream song role of 'Vaali'?

that's the break, which they get either accidentally or after hard work...
