Forever Young
Saw Sandai a couple of days ago and still can't get over how fabulous Nadhiya looked in it. There are quite a few jokes where she is mistaken for the bride instead of Ragini, the supposed heroine, and though the jokes come off looking a bit vulgar, one can't fault the reasoning behind them cos Nadhiya could easily pass for the heroine. Blame Tamil cinema for relegating her prematurely to mother and mother-in-law roles. Coincidentally, came across photos of 2 other actresses who still look great. In the center photo there is Amala when she, on behalf of Blue Cross, presented awards to persons and organizations whose work helped animals live in a better way. In the third photo is Sridevi walking the ramp on the final day of Fashion Week in Mumbai. Considering how other actresses like Ambika, Radha and Nirosha, who are also from around the same era, have let themselves go, its nice seeing these actresses still look as beautiful as they did when they were heroines.

The 3 actresses you have correctly mentioned have ballooned themselves into mother-in-law roles & tv serials. And they all had some sort of a beginning by starring in Kamal's movies... erhmm.
I agree with your opinions wrt Amala and Nathiya but I think Sridevi's overdone. She looks rather plastic to me now.
Ah! Amala! A hormonally-charged nostalgia inducer for me,BB:-)
Agni Natchathiram, Vedham Pudidhu, hell, she was the only thing that made Mammooty's lack lustre debut in Tamil, Mounam Sammadham watchable and had me humming "Kalyana Thennila" for weeks afterwards:-)
Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I kinda agree about Sridevi being hyped.. In fact, I was quite surprised when a news channel called her "behenji" when she looked her best in the 80s. Apparently, now she's hep.. beats me..
But you're right about Nadiya.. Not only does she look great, but also her sense of fashion still amazes me. Its just uniquely her.
nisha, I was going to type the same exact thing you did. Sridevi is one of my fav actresses and all, but she's too plasticky now.
How old you think they would be?
My guess is Nadiya would be 40 or nearing 40.
Amala no idea
Sridevi easily 45-48
Any guesses?
You forgot to mention actress Sripriya. We recently watched her cameo in Kannammuchi Enada and the scene where she wear a shirt, the shirt looks like a big comforter. Actor Sivakumar jogs 5 miles everyday. Actor Bharat is a soccer player in real life. Anil Ambani runs the mumbai marathon every year. Here in the east coast Will Ferrel runs marathons every year.
Take it from someone who is training for his 8th marathon, it is not easy to stay in shape. I run roughly 25 miles a week.

The first 2 look good, and they are probably in early 40s or close. Sridevi is older than them, at least by 6 or 7 years, I think. Considering that, she looks good, but has a starved feel. Saapadra saapaadellam purushanukku pola ;-)
anon, any actress from that time, barring maybe amala, would've had some beginning in kamal's films. so probably can't blame their ballooning on that :). but interesting theory :)
nisha/prakash, i'm guessing that she's a lot older than the other two. and this is a fashion show :)
kaykay, same boat here. she'd defly figure among my favorite heroines of all time. drooled over her in so many films like jeeva, kodi parakkudhu, sathya, apart from the ones u've mentioned :)
gayatri, thanx for stopping by. reg sridevi, i think everyone's still amazed at how good she looks after these many yrs. a true heroine :)
anon, as far as any actresses go, ur guess is as good as mine :)
ven, yep she'd definitely fall in "let themselves go" category :)
munimma, just hearing the phrase early 40s makes me even more amazed at how good those 2 look :)
I ran into this actress called jaishree (who had one hit to her fame called Thendraley ennai thodu..all the rest were Also Rans kinda film) She looks pretty nice for her age, which I suppose is in the older than Nadiya, younger than Sridevi bracket. Surprisingly she looks better now than what she did in all her films before!
Kavitha
Jaishree is the one who had dubbed for Jothinka in Pachaikili Muthu Charam..
And Yes, these three look ver good..
BB,
The reason Nadiya got those roles is not because of her looks, because of her attitude. I've heard on numerous occasions that she is very hard indeed to work with. If you have such an attitude it's difficult to survive in film world, unless you have the talent to make films that are damn good(this is what Kamal does).
Amazing Amala!
I like Nadhiya in general, but thought she looked too odd and out of place in Thamirabarani. Whats with all the Tirunelveli lingo?
Nadhiya reminds me of an aunt of mine who, unlike Nadhiya, has let herself go these days :(
Just felt i should share this important piece of information on such a beautiful friday morning :)
Sridevi was born in 1963. She is 44.
Nadhiya is probably still in her mid 30s, she was barely over 20 when she married. Amala looks good for her age, probably same or around Nadhiya's. I like Nadhiya's sense of fashion and her attitude. Please don't compare her to Kamal. Those so called GOOD films from him is far in between many rubbish films.
Regarding Nadhiya, I was surprised to find out that she is originally a Malayale raised in Bombay. She was interviewed by Asianet, and I was happy to see her conversing in rapid Malayalam. Likewise, she speaks in Tamil for tamil interviews. Confidence, pride, and a grace in carrying oneself. That's more respectable than a stunning film career with a dirtbag image that most actors carry.

Very Good Article. In fact the other day I was observing how some of the Hindi Actors look. I saw Anil Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. They seem to be getting better with age and to contrast with them our own Captain Vijaykanth with puffed up eyes. SAD!
No offense to his fans but the "captain"'s face has resembled that of an out-of-shape frog for almost a decade now :(
When Silksmitha died that time in Nakeeran she & sridevi are at the same of 40's.So think what is the age of sridevi.she got maerried in above 40's.
