igcinema
Recently visited igcinema through an email that advertised free movies there. The collection of movies seems to be pretty good. There are a few of those free movies but for most of them, you gotta pay. The older movies are available for rent($1.99) and to own($4.99) while the newer ones are available for rent only for $4.99. I didn't download any of the movies so far and so I'm not sure how they implement the concept of rent. But they do mention that that the movies are all in high-quality, full-screen video.
Just out of curiosity, I clicked on the first 2 new releases, Chennai 600028 and Saamy. Check out the movie synopsis they have under the 'General' tab for them. Look familiar? :)

Hmm.. I remember you saying that one desi DVD rental company of US pays you for using your reviews. But Indiaglitz? That is plagiarism to the core, right? Also, there is a genuine copyright issue with two rival companies, illaiya? Sue pannunga, Balaji.. Ivanungalai ellam summa vidaadheenga.. Vitta suttukkine iruppanga..
It does look familiar in a few more cases too e.g.: Ayya. Can you act on this ? i.e.: Is there a legal protection against plagiarism of parts of select few reviews...
What jerks. The free movies don't work in firefox, either. Eh.
Looks all too familiar :)
You shouldn't encourage this kind of behavior, bb.
Going forward, you should post a disclaimer, FAQ and perhaps something like a document that spells out what you expect and not expect others to do with your intellectual property. And, no, I am not an attorney :)
Litigation can be stressful. So you should see if you can work out a deal with such people first. Have them acknowledge you and your website at the very least...
Congrats.... your now the most reliable souce of tamil film review.. other than that... can u sue them?
I think I originally started reading your reviews from Minnoviyam( I can't think of any other way) and that was eons ago.
Way back before you even had kids I think. That you got paid for or at least acknowledged for right?
But, this is not cool. You shouldn't be amused, you should seriously threaten them about considering legal action or at least have them pay you. It's one thing if the synopsis provided was in the critics review and it mentionned you. But to outright copy the entire paragraph word for word not cool!
they've also suttified your Basha and 16 vayadinile
You should demand to watch the movies for free!
Kumar
"demand to watch the movies for free"!!!!!!!!! and let them get away with their plagiarism? Oh please.. BB's wiring, and for that reason anyone's writing should not be up on sale for something as silly as free downloads...very outraged on your behalf BB..
-madhu
bb, i'm sure you already know this...there're several websites that contain snippets from your movie reviews...a few, almost in full...but most of them take mainly your succinct movie synopses...ena orey vishyam, paavam avangaluku romba velai jaasthi...so copy adichudu vaange...but credit kudukardhille...enge ezhuthaalar (NOT NADIGAR!) kamal sir madhiri! ;-)
anyways, i've watched a few movies (for free) on igcinema...old movies that i havent seen in awhile...was surprised how dated "Sattam" (that i watched on igcinema) was...only solace was the beautiful "Nannbaney..." song
raju, yeah a dvd rental company paid me for reviews a while back. probably the only company that legally used my reviews :)
anon, yeah i guess i should add something - atleast a simple copyright - to the reviews :)
bart/anu, not sure. thinking of sending them an email. let's see...
sivajini, yeah 'minnoviyam' linked to my site when they used my reviews. but u're right... since they used the IG review in the critic's review section, i'm not sure why they didn't just use their own synopsis :)
kumar/madhu, thanx :)
ram, yeah i did a search for reviews once and was surprised at how many sites had snippets from my reviews. some of them even attributed them to someone else :)
En iniya Tamizh makkale..while I understand your sense of outrage and certainly don't condone plagiarism, I think you are taking this way too seriously with talks of litigation. BB needs to have a copyright statement in his blog and bbreviews. Also, BB needs to provide the sources for the movie stills and pictures (eg Bluray picture) he uses in the reviews.
Pls dont flame - just trying to play the Devil's (patent) advocate here:)

That is bad! Sending them an email at least might make them acknowledge!
