My friend has said that Sivi is almost a scene-by scene remake of a Chinese film(Maybe Shutter).Did you watch that one?
Shutter is a seriously awesome movie! The ending had me stunned for days... It's kinda hard not to refer to bits and pieces of the movie while joking around with photography.
I really wanna watch Sivi, but have to wait for DVD *sniff* lol.
Check out shutter if you get a chance.
p.s - watched "Naina" last week.. the other version of "Athu" & "The eye ( orginal)... Malavika comes as the cursed chick... Basically, i thought the movie sucked =P.

Shutter is a Thai Movie which came out in 2004. It's one of the best Horror films I have ever seen (Watched it last month after I heard Sivi is a rip-off from that movie).
Not sure whether you would be interested, because you have seen that with a different set of actors :)

I thot Sivi had some scary bits inspired from Grudge , the powder face, hairy bits, etc. I loved Grudge (thot it was betta than Ju-On original), every scene wud have some scare and movie never stops being scary start till end....a must theater movie if u like to get scared, not bad in dvd either, dim lites and crank the home theater :-)
ganesh, i first saw that it was a remake on 'sify' and when i read the reviews of 'shutter', it does seem like a scene-by-scene remake with the creepiness toned down. but no, i havent seen 'shutter'. hadn't heard of it before this either :)
merino, do plan on watching 'shutter'. and the end was the best part of 'sivi' also :)
didnt know 'adhu' was a remake. and didnt know about 'naina' either!
senthil, this seems like 'pattiyal', which i really enjoyed but then learned that it was a pretty close copy. but i think i'm still interested in checking out 'shutter' :)
arun, happens occasionally when there are too many readers(i think). should clear in a few hrs :)
babu, even the 'shutter' reviews said that some of the scenes reminded one of 'the grudge', 'the ring', etc. so no surprise that u were reminded of 'the grudge' from 'sivi' too :)

I disagree with Balaji's thoughts on Ashwin Shekeher. He looks different & looks handsom like Prabhu..

The reason that it seems like grudge and ringu is because asian belief in ghosts... "their" ghosts are mostly deranged angry chicks with pastey white skin and freaky long hair and residual water here and there, that's why it seems repetitive =P.
"The eye" (original version of adhu & naina) is directed by the same twin directors as Bangkok Dangerous
