For Aish Fans...

[Pic Courtesy Firth.com]

That's Aish dueling with Colin Firth(who was seen in Pride and Prejudice, Love Actually, etc.) in The Last Legion, her first foray into 'real' Hollywood. It is a period film set in Rome in 476 A.D and Aish is the film's only heroine. Ben Kingsley is also in the cast and more pics can be seen here [thanks Maverick].

Aish predictably also figures in the top 5 in the list of sexiest Asian actresses as selected by the UK publication Eastern Eye. She lost out to both Bipasha Basu(understandable!) and Priyanka Chopra(not understandable!) to place 3rd on the list but did manage to beat Mallika Sherawat.

I've never been a big fan of Aish but she does look gorgeous in this still from J.P.Dutta's Umrao Jaan, where she is playing the title role made famous by Rekha and will be seen with rumored boyfriend Abishek Bachan.

With Dhoom 2(where she and Hrithik Roshan both supposedly have negative roles), Umrao Jaan and The Last Legion, Aish fans have a lot to look forward to...

Only fair that I make the first comment on this post!

Avalukkena Azhagiya Mugam...!!

"I've never been a fan of Aish"

--> Mookudanjavanaku theriyumaa Malliga Poo Vaasana! (ille, Annathaiya Korangu-nu sollavename-nu romba "mariyaadhaiya" sollaren!)

I've heard from friends that Mistress of Spices is pretty unwatchable but I have to check it out sometime on DVD...she looked gorgeous in Bride and Prejudice, the last Ash movie that I saw...

cant wait to see her in these movies that u've mentioned...been a loooong time since she's "acted" in anyting memorable...Bhansali, give me another HDDCS and give Balaji another Black, since he's not an ash fan!

That was an awesome still. I do agree that Aish doesn't make a shabana or a smita patil [those 2 are handsdown one of the finer actors that bollywood has ever produced] but Aish has my support. She's come a long way, and she has it all. These are some interesting links. Thanks :)

I too was surprised to see Priyanka Chopra top the list, Balaji. But then she has come a way long way from what we saw in Thamizhan. She did look dazzling in Bluffmaster. Glad that I found company in you as someone who is not all that excited about Aish - I have never really been a big fan of her histrionics :)

Only think to look forward to from these films is to find out whether Ash can really act :-)

I have never been impressed by her acting talents. But I love her dances. Grace can make up for a lot of things, esp in Indian cinema. Not sure how she would fare in international films. She was pretty much panned in Mistress...

BTW, that rumored part is supposedly true. A friend of a friend of a friend was one of the main guys in the Dhoom2 S.A. shoot and he saw it all.

Good thing she beat Mallika S. Illaati Aishu naaka pudingittu saagavendiyathu thaan.

Priyanka is a much better actress in that lot, although I can't say I am a fan.

BTW, Colin Firth is probably more famous for the Bridget Jones movies. His P & P was impressive.

Don't care very much for Aishwarya Rai anymore, except to read about her on and off in the news about all the Hollywood and Bollywood films that she has been signing. She better start acting soon, if she wants to end up anywhere worthwhile. Ash & fluff have often gone together well for the last few years.. but unfortunately, fluff doesn't get you very far in Hollywood.

Of course, her 10,000 conditions that she won't kiss on screen or do those "not-so-flattering" sex scenes that may be expected out of her, might hurt her long term.. a part and parcel of dramatics in Hollywood are all these extra 'fittings.'

I don't mean to be cynical, but so far, nothing I have been reading about her has been promising...

So.. Paavam.. indu engay poyi mudiya poradhO!.. God help her!

Just to comment on the general opinon that "fluff" is not necessary to survive in any moviedom. Fluff can be seen as the glamour quotient - an undeniable element that gives any cinematic experience an aesthetic finish. Imagine a character actress like Meryl Streep doing a Monroe like role - it may not give the same gloss. Though it is debatable if glamour dolls like Ash aspire to be great method actors, it is undoubtedly for the fluff that they are sought (and demanded) for.
Though we may be a little unforgiving for divas to be masquerading as method actors, we secretly like them to stay the dolls that they truly are. So for my dollar, dear Ash, stay a DOLL.

priyanka chopra? really? for every bluffmaster she has a krish (and then some). while she definitely is a beauty, I think she faces the same problem jyothika did earlier in her career where she couldn't quite figure out what makeup and look suited her and therefore had some disasters. what she needs is a good and consistent stylist to bring out her best features.

as for aish, I adored her in HDDCS and thought that her "fluff" factor so to speak worked for her in Devdas, but I am quite unsure about how far she will go in hollywood. While there is definitely a place in hollywood for the beautiful damsel in distress (aish's forte), it usually comes with a little show of skin or a level of sensuality that aishwarya has made clear she is not interested in. i have to say that to date, my favorite aishwarya role was in Iruvar, so perhaps she will surprise us in Guru!

ps- Does anyone think that her placing behind priyanka had anything to do with her age? i'm not sure how much older she is than priyanka (for all i know, priyanka could be older, but i don't think she is), but when i was visiting india earlier this year all of my relatives were complaining about how old aish had gotten and that she looked like a kelavi. for the record, i think she looks more beautiful than when she first came on the cine scene, she has grown into her looks and is more confident now, but this was such a widespread opinion among my family that i wondered if others in the business felt the same way.

this is NOT a 'real' hollywood film at all, it is a uk production

she has yet to do a hollywood film, despite all the rumors

ram, i would've been surprised only if u hadn't been the 1st to comment on this :)

hawkeye, good catch. not sure how i missed that one! probably cos when its mani's film, the actors don't even register :)

rads, aish's a pretty bad actress. so she can't be in the same league as most others, let alone shabana and smita!

filbert, and i wasn't talking just about histrionics either. she can look great but she isn't what i'd call cute or pretty and her beauty doesn't have 'warmth'. i'll take a kajol over her any day :)

vijay, i'm curious about that too :) 'guru' will probably give us the answer. mani made even baby shamili act. so hopefully he can make aish act too :)

munimma, true. one thing she has oodles of is grace and stunning dancing ability... reg. colin firth, not sure if u checked out the website but the movie list doesn't mention P&P! not sure why...

sandya, i feel the same way... she would've been better off being a model :)
