Njan Kadavul Launched
Arya is one lucky guy! While Njan Kadavul was all along expected to bring together Ajith and Bala, Arya came out of nowhere to snap up the role after Ajith stepped out. After a lot of starting trouble, the film was launched on June 14. Chithiram Pesudhadi heroine Bhavna (this is another lucky gal!) is the heroine and Ilaiyaraja will be scoring the music. Considering what Bala’s films Sethu and Nandhaa did for their respective heroes Vikram and Surya, Arya must be hoping for the same kind of break-out role too. So he's given bulk dates and will be joining the shoot after he completes Saran's Vattaaram.
Btw, why is it Njan and how is the title gonna be written in Tamil?

Honestly, you know what baffles me about this whole fiasco?.. Initially, it was said that Ajit didn't want to keep on waiting for months on end in order for Bala to start the film. I saw a one-liner at Cinesouth.com indicating Bala's alcoholism in some way! And then, it seems that Thenappan was out of the picture as producer, as he was already way over his head with Vallavan. There was some word that Ajit was out of the film only because Thenappan was no longer part of the film as producer. Now, they have a puja function that you can see the block letters "Sri Rajalakshmi Film Pvt. Ltd.," which is Thenappan's outfit.
Did you catch this bit about Bala demanding the advance back from Ajit?
Is it just me, or does Bala get into differences of opinion with just about all his heroes for the sake of publicity? That he picked Arya immediately brought a bone of contention from Director Saran's end. I wouldn't blame Ajit here (he has had too many films, Jana, Anjaneya, Ji and now Godfather, which have dragged on for years on end!) for not being patient enough to handle Bala's quirks.
Maybe, there is more trouble here than what the press has been able to unearth so far!.. If I were Arya, I'd be very weary from this point on... Bala (like his colleague, Selvaraghavan) is very quirky, unpredictable and moody and can become a pain for any actor/actress in a very short span of time.
Also, Balaji, take a look at this pic. So far, it only looks like "Naan Kadavul".. maybe, they'll work on new lettering or spelling in future ads.
I agree with Sandhya...Bala has already got a reputation for being a disorganized and a temperamental filmmaker...both Nandhaa and Pithamagan went way beyond the originally planned schedule and budget. But Vikram and Suriya are Bala's blue-eyed boys who would've had to endure his erratic ways of working...and, being relatively new to the field, Arya and Bhavana will have to put up with his mood swings and inordinate delays, too...but am just hoping that he doesnt drag the filming and post-production for months like he did for his previous two ventures. and yeah, Simbhu and Selvaraghavan have gained a lot of notoriety for their excessive use of film rolls, with Simbhu esp. being accused of being all over the place...all of this doesnt augur well for the ones who're called the "next gen" filmmakers...
Balaji, If you see this week Kumudham Reporter and Nakkeeran, You can know why Ajith stepped out from Naan Kadavul. I have also summarized the event and posted. Ajith was threatned by Bala along kattapachayat fame Financier Madurai Anbu and got nearly 3.5 crores from Ajith. This is the hot news of the town today. Kumudham Reporter has a detailed chronicle on this. No one refused the things.
Only now I am able to see why earlier there was a problem b/w Vikram and Bala, because of 50 lakhs. I know Bala was rude, from his own writings in Ananadha Vikatan. But not imagined like this.
That Financier Anbu was responsible for the suicide of GV and collapse of Kaja Moideen
Here's what looks like "most of the full story" on the Bala-Ajit-Thenappan "Naan Kadavul" fiasco..
Also, Karthik, I remember reading the problem between Vikram and Bala was initially about the length and content of Surya's role in the film (as Vikram felt misled by the initial narration versus what made it finally to the screens!). Vikram and Producer Durai were at loggerheads over the 50 lakhs also. That went on for quite some time too.
Maybe this Financier should change his name! :-).. His name and his actions don't seem to match much! :-) ;-)..Also, remember my dad telling me that he had read an article suggesting that Sasikala (Amma's udan piravaa sagodhari) and her hubby had a major hand in GV's debts (and his eventual suicide!). Could have very well been the case with Kaja Moideen as well.
Nothing surprises me anymore! :-(
I am really surprised on reading all these behind-the-scenes stories involving Bala. For someone who has evolved from humble roots, this behaviour completely baffles me. But my admiration for Ajith has gone up notches after reading how he has reacted to this whole morbid turn of events. It is indeed sad that things like this happen to the best of people like him.
On the movie, Bhavana is an interesting choice. Though she wasnt that great in CP, I am sure Bala would get the best out of her. But the most I am expecting out of this movie is the Maestro's score. He proved he was the true Pithamagan of the movie, last time around.
sandya, wonder how i missed that pic. but yes, it does look like 'naan kadavul'. though if just that pic had been shown without hinting that it was from the launch, i'd have had trouble figuring out the 'naan' part!
i guess the goings-on have revealed another ugly facet of tamil cinema. if an established actor like ajith is caught in stuff like this, one can imagine the plight of newcomers. hope arya and bhavna come out of the film unscathed and the film does end up giving a boost to their careers...
filbert, that was bala's answer too. since there were 2 heroes he was was asked who pithaamagan was in the film and he said ilaiyaraja was the real pithamagan :)
