Sivaji - New Still

[Pic Courtesy Kaps]

As a thalaivar fan it pains me to say it but this latest photo from Sivaji is terrible. I know that the pair probably been snapped in the middle of a song sequence but Rajni still looks rather stiff and uncomfortable. His cap(I hope its not a wig!) looks ridiculous and his dress is too gaudy. Shriya fares worse and just looks cheap. When the previous bunch of photos were released, there was a lot of hullabaloo and Shankar said that he would drop that scene from the film. If this is how this song sequence looks on screen, I'm hoping it gets dropped too!

Maybe u guys shld try the new hairdo for yrselves....Lolz...

Pls allow something different on screen.Anyway why bother, U guys ar not Shankar,AVM or Rajini. If they feel its rite to have the kind of costumes,it's their wish & money.

i nvr say u can't comment or criticise.Do comment & criticise constructively. It's easy to sit in front of yr computer and type review of a movie or particular scene and simply say what kind of shit movie by the stupid director.U c a director doesn't simply put a particular scene in a movie juz for fun.I have worked as a asst director before and i know how difficult it is to be a director.Juz don throw words simply by saying its a terrible scene or wat a crap director that person is....(I have seen tat happen many times in alot of posts in here esp for selvaraghavan movies)...Like i said if u thk u ar so great and tat u a better director and know the pluse of the audience,by all means do direct a movie and we'll c. It takes one to know the pain of blind criticism if one goes through it.

Rdx, actually, I have had a similar conversation with my dad and we've talked about how casually we, as the audience, make comments about a film and how crappy it was. I remember seeing a 'behind-the-scenes' look at Kareeb where Bobby Deol and Neha do a song sequence in cold, freezing water. They were both shaking and shivering through the whole song. It was really difficult to watch them grin and bear the cold and do the song picturization authentically.

That film went on to flop anyways.. surely, nobody would have thought even once about Bobby Deol or newcomer Neha or what they went through...

Point of the story.. you can't expect normal folks walking the streets to see paavam pachchaa thaabam for every little thing. As much as I respect Shankar's skills as a director, there are going to be days when I question his taste and decisions(whether it be when I see a still or see an old movie of his, or better yet, when I might watch his production, Imsai Arasan hopefully next week!).

As much as I respect your opinion, rdx, you also have to keep in mind that majority of the folks out there, just look at something, weigh it for what it is and comment on it. A lot of the spice in our lives is quite lost if we sit and think about how hard other people work on 'flop' movies, scenes or songs.

Life is tough! :-)

About Sivaji.. Folks, why do you think these stills are being released to the public?.. This generates the wrong kind of publicity.. I would think this considerably tones down the hype of the film... Shankar, AVM and Rajini are very shrewd businessmen at the end of the day. I won't be surprised if this was just a test run/photo session that they did somewhere.. and they threw out into the public to see the reaction! :-).. These three entities are capable of this and more in teasing us into believing anything.. NOTHING IS USUALLY WHAT MEETS THE EYE, REMEMBER?! :-)

As a die hard Rajini fan,I fail to see why is there a pressing need both on his and the film-makers part to cast him as a 25 year old "valiban" in every film? If anything, his charisma and screen presence are only enhanced the older he gets so why not play an older man? I look back on his movies the last 10 years and every time a character of his makes an impact,it's usually as an older person. The old "vagabond" in Muthu made more of an impact in 10 minutes than the younger version throughout the film, the brief video clip of an older Rajini in "Arunachalam" was great and the older "Padayappa" was far more magnetic than the younger 1st half version.I'd give this suggestion to the Style Mannan: Lose the wig and the trendy clothes, act your age and I guarantee that your Super "Star" can only shine brighter!

No surprises here. Anybody remember the costumes Kamal and Manisha wore in 'Telephone Mani'?! That was equally atrocious.

Not particularly fond of Shankar's song picturisation. I think Mani Ratnam is a lot better in this area.

krishna, totally agree with you. But I think as long as the audience laps up the young Rajini, he won't change. The audience rejected young Amitabh, so he started acting his age, and was lucky enough to find the right roles.

Maybe if we have a few more 'Baba's, Rajini will grow up too ...

Going by the expression on the faces of Shriya and the dancers in the background (one of them is just standing) and all the shooting equipment lying around, I think they are practicing the dance steps. Still doesn't explain the atrocious costumes though..ugh!! I just hope they use some kind of filter/camera technique to make them look better (like the Nokia song)!!

Though the still as such is bad, hope they turn out to be better when seen in a song sequence. Hope you saw more photos of the same shoot which have got out today. It doesnt look that bad when you consider the fact that they are stills from a song sequence.

And like Prakash said, Shankar has a knack of doing such things - Vikram as the "cool" Remo in Anniyan and Kamal in those horrible dresses in Indian (akkada song to be precise)

Let us hope this shot is just a fleeting moment in a song.

Like Krishnaji said, Rajnikanth nowadays makes a better impact as an elderly individual.

But one should also remember as the evil king in Chandramukhi with the weird getup, he still made an impact.

Hence even this might become a style statement, Remember eons ago the same Rajnikanth who wore yellow trousers with SANAL KAYIR with and YELLOW KAI BAG (similar to the free printed yellow back one used to get from Jewellary shops in Tamil Nadu) with coolers and his usual swish of fingers and flipping his hair walking in front of LIC Bldg.(I am not able to recollect the moviename). It became kind of a rage with his fans who went for the same hairstyle and dress stuff.

Yet it is learnt from gossips only of course he is doing multiple roles a couple or one of them hopefully is a elderly person which will make us forget the gaudy wigs and costumes in the song sequences. Also if the song is any good, we might overlook these a little bit.

What say folks?????

Sify review of PUDHUPETTAI seems to tell that the padam is a big ooothaal for Selva. We got to wait and see.

I understand it is a lot of pain to make movie, why can't these people be more planned and not take ages to finish a movie.

When I saw this pix yesterday, for a second, I thought it was really sivaji :-), but the lack of the big thonthi proved otherwise.

I don't know why, I can't help but remember the phrase, kazhuthai
vaalukku kunjalam ;-D

thevaiyaa? vayasukku thakuntha aattam venum perisu!

Shankar.. unakku manasatchiye illaiya??

I'm sitting on the fence on this movie.. Haven't really been impressed with all his movies anyways.

Poor Rajni :(

ram, unfortunately i have nothing to counter all that u say :)

rdx, sandya pretty much said what i wanted to say. the producers make movies for us to see. when we pay money to see, i think we also have the right to comment on it. this is true of every profession! if my product is bad the customer is gonna complain. he's not gonna think about how hard i worked to build it and say nice things about me. i just have a build a better product. i can't ask him to build it himself to c how difficult it is :)

adapaavi, lets hope the movie doesn't let u kalachify too much :)

nattamai, he looked pretty cool in 'chandramukhi'... thats all i'm asking for :)

bhuvan, the earlier snaps were pretty good. and btw, changed from bill murray to sopranos i see :)

sandya, thats completely about they being shrewd businessmen. 1 of my conjectures about the earlier set of fotos was they they had 'leaked' it themselves for the same reason u mentioned here :)

krishna, i do agree on his older roles making more of an impact(thats true of almost any actor i think). but then again, 'chandramukhi' where he's a valiban is his biggest hit ever. so thats gonna change his mind too :)

sasiprabha, lol.

prakash, way better. shankar does things grand but that doesnt always translate into good sequences...
