2 Gangsta Pics

[Pics Courtesy Rediff, Sify ]

Pudhuppettai and Pattiyal... 2 eagerly anticipated movies with a number of things in common. Both movies are based on the Chennai underworld - a setting that hasn't been portrayed realistically on screen so far. Both are helmed by directors who are coming off of big hits but have ventured into a different genre with these movies. Both feature music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Both have heroes who could really use some help with their careers right now. And for now it looks like both would hit screens in May.

Pudhuppettai trailer is available here. Has a rocking background score. Trailer follows the usual format of a bunch of scenes thrown together giving no clue about the story. But some of the scenes are real nifty though(check out the shot where Dhanush looks through the barrel of a gun). And from the looks of it, Dhanush has given a really manic performance.

Pattiyal gallery can be seen here. Arya looks unkempt and Bharath looks the same. But the real surprise is Padmapriya who seems to be going in for an image change from her homely look in Thavamaai Thavamirundhu. But she does look much better than she did in TT though :-)

I would put my money on Pudhepettai. I happened to see the trailer couple of days ago. I read somewhere that the movie might be released on 14th April.

Balaji, Pattiyal is expected in theaters in the next couple of weeks.. maybe even as early as next week.. and Pudhupettai is going head to head with VV & Thirupathi for New Year.

Personally, was really blown away by the Pudupettai trailer.. the last time I felt that way was after I saw the Godfather trailer.. I just thrilled to see something different in the eunuch Ajeeth.. man, I wonder how many more months before I get to see him on screen! :-(..

kaps/sandya, i met one of the distributors who buys and screens tamil movies in the bay area during 1 of the movies. he told me 'pudhupettai' wasn't releasing until may. but then again, he also said 'godfather' is coming feb 24 and 'thambi' had been pushed to april or may!

and that 'pattiyal' gallery on sify mentioned that the film would release in may too...

Well, it's now official, Godfather won't come before June!.. Grrr..

Oh well!.. We'll move on!.. I just read this article "Slaughter of the innocents" at Sify.com. Maybe it may be wise for Pattiyal to release in March and save some face for Tamil Cinema.. By the way, what is the point in releasing two gangster movies in May?.. Do they want both to flop or something?..

Also check out this awesome set of Pattiyal pics from Dinakaran & Tamil Murasu: pic 1, pic 2, pic 3 (The last pic is the one that says March release!)

balaji,

are you talking about thambi or tirupathi being pushed to may? btw you have to listen to the soundtrack of pattiyal. the songs Namma Kaatula and Yedhedho simply rock. you havent being reviewing songs of late. would you be kind enough to review pattiyal's soundtrack?

Balaji did you check out "Perusu", the low budget movie that released last Deepavali. It had mostly unknown actors (some of them real gangsters) and was lauded by the press for being realistic. It seems SR saw "Perusu" after he completed PP and realized how inferior his film was in comparison. This reportedly lead to lot of reshoots and delay

Overdose of gangsters/violoent movies. Hope Selvaraghavan has something different to offer this time. The trailer has quite a bit of RGV touch. When I listen to 'Pon pesum', it reminds me of 'Sapne mein milta hain' and 'Khallu mama' of Sathya.

bhuvan, wouldnt go so far as to call them ridiculous but after 7/G, i do think seva's a bit overrated. 'kaadhal konden' really stunned me though :)

sandya, not b4 june. guess thats cos of the 50 days before or after 'tirupathi' rule?
and since the 'pattiyal' audio has just come out, a march release seems a bit optimistic. lets wait and see... those pics look great btw :)

kaps, not sure u would've read about him anywhere. he's just a local guy who buys movies for screening in the bay area here. anyway his name's jayamurugan(i think). ring a bell?

reagan, i thot the trailer as a whole gave the impression of a
movie very different from KK and 7g. what made u think it would be part 2 of those?

I can predict an opening hype and a fast fizzle for PP. But who knows, I may be proven wrong.

Pattiyal seems to be less dark, compared to PP. Plus, all 4 youngsters in Pattiyal are talented and not overhyped, unlike Dhanush. But Tamil industry needs to learn about marketing and publicity. Banning TV publicity is a wrong move. I am waiting for Kamalhassan to break it:-)

there is some other distributor for the whole of US. forgot his name. he had mentioned somewhere that he used to buy only Manirathnam, kamal and rajini movies earlier and now has started distributing vijay and other newer heroes.

Kaps, if I am correct, are you referring to Mr. Chuck Chokkalingam?!..

dont ya the scene wer dhanush dances around tha fire in da trailer resembles the climax of KK

the whole Kaadhal Konden movie was copied.Turns out that the film's theme in itself is lifted from a German movie called 'Klassenfahrt' (English title, 'School Trip')...not only the theme but also the mannerisms of the original's lead guy..........www.itwofs.com/trivia.html refer 13th article

PADMAPRIYA's approach seems to have changed.. by the way she has given postures in those pics. Not sure, if she will be exploited for that in future or for her acting.
