Gautham-Sarath-Simran-Jo?!

I've always felt that Sify is more reliable, compared to other cinema websites, when it comes to cinema news. But this one seems to be totally out there.

Not surprisingly, the words 'Simran' and 'Comeback' were what drew me to this news item. Ever since she bid goodbye to Tamil films with Kicha Vayasu 16, I've been hoping that she would come back for atleast one film. I think an actress with her record deserves a better swan song. But her comeback turned out to be the least interesting news amongst what was written in the news item!

According to it, Simran will be making her comeback in a film directed by Gautham Menon, the hotshot director of Kaakka Kaakka and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. And thats not all. The article goes on to say that she will play Sarathkumar's wife(and mother of a 5-year-old) while Jyothika will play the other woman! Gautham is apparently planning to direct this as a quickie between VV and another film he is planning with Surya and Trisha.

So my 2 favorite heroines showing up in 1 movie? Don't you tease me Sify :)

simran and jyothika are your favorite heroines?! on what grounds? that they don't look even slightly thamizh(*)? that they keep dubbing artistes employed? that they mug for the camera?

i was one of three people to see kovilpatti veeralakshmi and simran's casting totally ruined what could have been a not totally pointless movie.

(*) oh for the days when thamizh actresses were really gults, rather than really horses.

anon,
Are you trying to say that only tamil looking gals can be a person's favourite heroines? Simran might not look all that tamil but she is a very good actress. IMO she is able to act far better than tamil looking non-tamil actresses and tamil looking tamil actresses.

most of the heroines these days hire dubbing artistes. even the tamil looking ones and the tamil ones like trisha and sneha.

Hmmm.. I am under the impression that Sneha stopped her dubbing stint with "Parthiban Kanavu".. and Trisha's voice sounds the same on film as her interviews on TV, so I don't think Trish has a dubbing artist (at least not in "Aaru," I don't think!).. Maybe someone can check the DVD and tell us..

I'll have to agree with "G" with regards to liking an actress solely because she is or isn't Tamil.. My 2 cents.. neither Simran nor Jo are stunning lookers, but their performances are bubbly, refreshing and their presence generally elevates many of the low-life (for lack of a better term!) films that release every year.

With the same token, with the exception of "Vaali" and "Kannaththil Muththamittaal".. I wouldn't hold a grand candle up high for Miss.. oops.. Mrs. Deepak Bagga.. in the acting department either. The same could be said for "soon to be Mrs. Surya".. Her acting oriented roles are few and far apart.. but her presence raises even ordinary fares (Saravana, anyone? :-)..

The reason for the mention of "Miss.. Mrs..." is pretty obvious, isn't it? BB, sorry, vendha puNN-la vElai paaychchara aaydichaa? :-) ;-)

With regards to Sims supposed comeback.. good luck kid.. coming back with Trisha, Nayanthara, Jo, Asin, Shriya etc. etc., this comeback is going to be an extremely tough one. I sure wish Sims good luck.. try to stay away from any placards at Chennai Airport that say "Thanga Vettai" on it when you arrive here..

nobody said anything about liking anyone solely because they are thamizh. however, i totally fail to see the appeal of non-thamizh-looking, non-thamizh-speaking, not-that-great-actresses actresses acting ***as thamizh women***. at least khusboo had assets (!), i fail to see what simran and jyothika have that is that impressive, though they are both less awful than laila.

i think the trend of dubbing artistes and "well i was born in bombay, us, neptune" thamizh actors speaking thamizh badly is pretty pathetic.
is it really so bad to have some standards?

simran, jothika-va elaam pathi thappa sollreengaley...cha, pona vaaram kamal...indha vaaram en irandu kanngall...evlo perukku thaan naan parinjindu varradhu?!

simran is one of those actresses who just transforms into this absolutely beautiful woman when wearing the right amt of make-up...she looked great in Nerukku Ner, VIP, Vaali, Paarthen Rasithen and even with minimum make-up, looked really pleasant in Kannathil Muthamittaal...there's no denying the fact that she's turned in impressive work...she was awesome in movies like Vaali, PR and KM...

Jo-Jo-Jo-Jothika...Bambare Kannaaley Suryavai Vendraaley! Thanga Chilai Poal...seri, seri...sorry, sorry...tunsan aayten chapoo...overall, I think Simran's the better actress but Jo has been fine in movies like Mugavari, a cpl of really emotional scenes in Rhythm and of course, who could forget her elegance n grace in Kaaka Kaaka...not to mention CM...

ipdi elaam irukarchey en paa elaarum indha rendu azhagigala karichu kotreenge...

anon, simran is ravishing, has a great bod, is a very good actress and a great dancer. in my books, that makes her a complete actress :) i didn't see KV but she did very well in the other movies mentioned by sandya and ram.

jo is very very cute and i luv her energy and chirpiness. though she doesn't come close to simran in terms of acting, i admire her for how much she's improved and hard work (as she showed in CM).

sandya, i agree on the difficulty of any comeback for sims. i'll be very very surprised if she makes any kind of impact. that 'thanga vettai' comment was hilarious :)

Re: Simran, Yes, yes, yes and yes to what Balaji said.

Simran's the only one (far as I know) who's elicited the comment "I wish I was born a man" from my wife :)

I read this rumour on Gautam directing Vijay & Vikram together.. how about that? Looks unlikely...

BTW.. are we building too much hopes on Gautam? Will wait for few months.. and see how VV is coming out.

simran is ravishing? um. i'd reserve ravishing for mss in meera. my grandfather's time had mss and padmini and devika, my father's time had shoba and sripriya, and now we have simran and jyothika. sic transit gloria mundi.

Sandhya,
Trisha can't speak proper Tamil and uses a dubbing artist. Last heard that Trisha is trying to learn Tamil so that she can do the dubbing herself.
