Hunt and Play!

With Mumbai Express all set to roll out of the station in a few days, Kamal has gone ahead and officially announced his next movie with Kaakka Kaakka director Gautham. Titled Vettayaadu Vilayaadu, it has him playing a cop and features Jo as the heroine. So my hopes came true after all! Throw in Harris Jayaraj and you have a very explosive combination which ensures that the movie will be saddled with very high expectations when it comes. If this is going to be a Diwali release(which is a strong possibility considering the timing), we already have the battlelines drawn for one contest with Vijay's Sivakasi also pencilled in for the big day. Watch this space for more news...

Jothika is heavily overrated - in terms of looks. Her acting, if any, didnt catch my eye. Kamal's class in terms of heroine selections has come down a few notches i the past few years. Tenali had the worset set of heroines ever for a Kamal movie and now Jothika again.Time for mourning.

Harris Jayaraj- poor man's ARR. What else to say? He should feel extremely lucky to work with Kamal as will Gautam - the one-hit wonder

Uhm... am I the only one who hated the silly, amateurish and excessively BOOOOOOOORING "Kaaka Kaaka"? And I don't like Jyothika either... gotta agree with Vijay about that one. Harris, though, delivers solid work, if not always inspired, but then Rahman also does his fair share of mediocre stuff. I'm not all excited about this project, given the track record of everybody involved, even Kamal, whose last great film was THEVAR MAGAN and that one was released like a decade ago...

"Vettayadu Vilayadu is said to be a racy thriller in which Kamal plays his age and the first half is set in New York, second half in Chennai and the climax in a remote village in Tamilnadu"
So is Thalaivar playing an NYPD officer? ;-)

Asokan - you may not be the only one, but you definitely are in the minority here.
Anyways, to each his own...

Jyothika should have been another Mumbai-reject who had a short stint at Kollywood. Instead she is being glorified as the numero uno here. She is nowhere in the same league as sokme other actresses who have been numero uno in Madras earlier, either in terms of acting or looks. She has sort of a punched-in face ("moonjOru moonji")and her irritating mannerisms and over-animated face would have just been a refreshing gimmick in one movie- not one movie after another. How I miss the likes of Banupriya, Amala etc. in their prime? Even Simran was much classier. Until someone reminded her recently Jyothika used to gleefully reveal her tummy to everyone for quite a while sometime back. She seems to have trimmed down a little.

asokan-difference between Harris and Rahman - Harris needs Rahman to set new trends so that he could use those ideas and package it differently in his albums. Yuvan shankar Raja is another overrated guy, who is being patronized by the media probably because he happens to be the son of you-know-who

I didn't take to Jo much either in her earlier days (always reminded me of a coworker). But now she seems to be growing on me (that coworker never did). Kamal playing a cop is always something to look forward to. There aren't that many guys who can protray a cop effectively. NYPD Officer?! I wonder if this new movie might have some shades of Red Heat in it. Hmmm...

vijay, just curious. who do u think would be a good heroine for Kamal? And you don't like Harris and YSR either? Hmmm.,. looks like u r one of the 'old is gold' people... lemme guess... u dont like any of the 'new' heroes like dhanush, jayam ravi, simbu?

asokan, i think u'll have quite a few supporters for not liking Jo but I think u r the first person I have heard to not like KK! Quite surprising actually...

‘Jyothika should have been another Mumbai-reject who had a short stint at Kollywood. Instead she is being glorified as the numero uno here’

Agreed vij

but abt V V

I have a feeling Jo is going to ruin this one also

I would have liked to see Kamal with Manisha again - they make a good pair

anyways, I am still looking forward to this b/c it’s a kamal film

‘Harris Jayaraj- poor man's ARR’

they are both good in their own way,

the way I see it HJ gave us great albums for ‘minnale’ and ‘KK’, and I don’t see anything different happening here

I've always liked performers who make (or atleast seem to be making) an effort to correct their mistakes i.e. grow as an actor/actress. That is one big reason why I've come to like Jyothika(apart from the fact that I think she's cute!). She's made an effort to tone down her exaggerated facial expressions, she's improved her dancing by leaps and bounds and has improved her Tamil to a stage where she can dub for herself. All these point to an someone making an effort and I appreciate that.

I know I'm going off-topic here but this is exactly why I really admire Surya and why I don't think too much of Maddy. Surya has improved every aspect of himself to become a really well-rounded actor. But Maddy's steadfast refusal(I don't think its inability since I believe dedicated training will have atleast some results) to improve his dancing makes his dedication to his craft suspect.

" vijay, just curious. who do u think would be a good heroine for Kamal?"

depends on the film. But jyothika wont be suitable for any kind of film. They could have tried someone else like Preity Zinta. In the south most current heroines suck. They are either too young for Kamal or cant act to save their lives. Gauthami in the early 90s was the last of Kamal's best heroines. Simran wasnt too bad but was cast in bad films with Kamal.

"And you don't like Harris and YSR either? Hmmm.,. looks like u r one of the 'old is gold' people.."

old is gold? How is Rahman"old"? He is still kicking ass out there. Havent you listened to Kangakaal kaidhu sei, Ayudha Ezhuthu, Swades, Bose etc.?

Harris and YSR are medicore, thats all. It doesnt matter if they are "new" on the horizon. They are lucky that a couple of movies they scored music for, became hits. Most new music directors suck, without any fresh ideas. Same goes for heroines too.
Actors fare a little better - I liked Surya, Vikram etc. and they are "new" actors :-)

well let her do all that, improve and then come to the studios for acting. Too early to anoint her as numero uno and cast her in one movie after another when she has just learnt how to look trim and speak Tamil and how to act.

totally concur with Balaji about Surya's dedication to his craft...and of course, Jothika, even if to a lesser extent...
I think after Kamal Haasan, it is Vikram and Surya who've put in their best efforts in terms of experimenting or honing their skills for offbeat roles...
Among actresses, Jothika and Sneha are among the more dedicated ones...Sneha more so coz she's turned into such a natural actress...

vijay, agree, real tough job selecting a heroine for Kamal from the current crop of actresses.
I meant 'old' as in 'been around for awhile and not as in 'in the past'.
atleast u agree she is now trim, can speak Tamil and has learnt how to act :)

r, yes vikram definitely falls in the same category though the 'growing' part is not as obvious since he made such a spectacular start with 'Sethu'. We'd have to look to his real old movies like 'Meera', etc. to really see his growth. But with Surya, the growth is more obvious when we compare his pre-'Mounam Pesiyadhe' days with his current movies.

Jo is the best thing that happened to Tamil films(majority of her films being a hit)Not to mention she overshadowed the superstar himself in Chandramukhi. You cannot survive 10 yrs if you're rubbish!! As for KK, for those you didn't like it open you eyes and watch the film!
