When I saw your post on Shriya earlier, I thought "mm.. one more name to a list already very long"... Glad it is complete and she is chosen. She was good in Mazhai and I liked her. Hope Shankar doesnt make her get drenched again.. :-)

I agree with Ferrari on his observations on Aish. Don't get me wrong. She is a successful and sophisticated woman but that does not always translate to the sought after "melodramatic screen presence" in a Tamil movie...although to be fair, she did fine work in Kandukonden Kandukonden (hey, she has so far acted in two Jane Austen "adaptations" then).
Not bad, she is only 35 years younger than SS :-)

Shankar is soodu patta poonai especially after the Sadha debacle.. Sadha made so much trouble during the "Anniyan" shooting.. practically adam pidich-ing for every little costume and saying that she wouldn't expose... yaada yaada yaada..

I think Shreya's dhaaraaLam (paavam Trisha!), could very well be the other reason for picking her.. I doubt the girl is going around knitpicking about what her wardrobe looks like.. The songs of E20U18 that I saw, alongside the stuff I've seen of "Mazhai" on TV suggests that she's got what it takes to be in a Rajini/Shankar movie.. By the way, who needs histrionics in a Rajini/Shankar film anyway? (with the only exception of Ramya Krishnan in "Padaiyappa").
What Rajini/Shankar need is a barbie doll (who dances well, shows a lot of skin during song sequences and stands around while Rajini puts forth his 'hero' image and punch dialogues.. (Don't read this the wrong way, but isn't that what most, if not all, heroines do in Shankar films and in Rajini films..

...probably why the few Indian chicks I know here don't dig Rajini movies. However, they adore Kamal and James Bond movies though...where women are given well etched out roles very rarely as well (Simran, Judi Dench, Rani Mukherjee, Michelle Yeoh, etc. are some exceptions).

i know thats the general impression but not sure if female character is that disposable in rajni movies. i think they seem not to matter because he's so larger than life but they actually have better roles that the heroines in movies from other actors like vijay, etc. i mean trisha is numero uno but what exactly did she do in 'tiruppachi'?! but meena in 'ejamaan', 'muthu', ramya krishnan in 'padaiyappa', jo in 'CM', etc. had pretty good roles...
