Happy Deepavali
- Waking up to the alarm of distant crackers…
- Donning new clothes…
- Sneaking off to burst a few crackers before my brother joined me…
- Setting off 100-walas and Lakshmi vedis and flowerpots and tharai chakkarams…
- Eating idlis and chutney for tiffin…
- Watching Pudhu Paadal on TV…
- Having lunch with our entire extended family…
- Organizing/taking part in games…
*Sigh* Today, I miss home just a bit more than usual…
Happy Deepavali!

:( Anyways, :) Wish you and your family a very very Happy and a Prosperous Diwali!
Happy deepavali saaar :)
Happy deepavali Balaji
I still remember when I would come out of the house and look down the street to find it hazy (smoke from all the firecrackers), the girls from the opposite house showing off their new clothes and giving coy looks (plus my friends who show up promptly at my house to show off to those girls), tipping the kids who work in the nearby cycle and tea shops, etc. Sweet! I am planning on being in India next Deepavali!!
yep, nostalgia.
You forgot - matinee or evening show - first day show.
Lots of sweets from around the neighborhood.
Well, got to do at least one from the list. New clothes for the family.
happy diwali, everyone!!
yep, sure do miss all the fun that i used to have in Singaara Chennai...
Happy Deepavali, Balaji..
Coincidence!!! My Deepavali post is also about nostalgia and a *SIGH* too..
Couple years back, planned my India trip around Diwali. Was awesome.
Here, it's just another day. When people call to wish, I tell them "Naanga Christmas-kku maritom"! In the East Coast, there's a similar feeling of festivity in the air, esp if it is a white Christmas. One time of the year I don't miss sunny Cal. Just isn't the same there.
Happy Deepavali, Balaji :-)
bb,
nowadays people at home too feel kinda same. souring cracker prices, cracked-down enthusiasm due to factors ranging from authorities directive to price to general interest lost have become the factor.
ellaarum indhiya tholaikkaatchigaLil mudhal murayaaga abaththathirkku adimaigaLaagivittOm.
rajesh, yep. the phone call where i get to speak to the entire family is the only solace :)
ibh/vijay/ganesh. thanx :)
gopi, the smoke slowly clearing to reveal the gals in the opp. houses? enna 'azhagiya theeye' levella iruku? :)
but u're right. apart from the smoke, i also remember the red and while remnants from the crackers on the roads. that was 1 day when even that was beautiful!
munimma, diwali anniku have never been to a new release :( too much fun in our house to miss :)
ram/raju, thanx :)
prakash, i was there during diwali in 3 yrs ago. unforgettable...
thennavan, thanx :)
kupps, thanx for dropping by. my parents said the same thing. the crackers-tradition seems to be almost dying out. but the new clothes-tradition seems to be real strong seeing the shopping crowds this yr :)
Happy Diwali Balaji ... feeling same as you .... sigh** so far away from home.
And sivakasi - watched it yesterday at IMC6 - completely agree with you on your review - if only first half had some substance - the movie could have been better - well i had no expectations in Vijay's movie - it is masala movie - i had gone for the masala ;)
Happy Deepavali, Balaji!
Somehow I don't miss the noise and the pollution.
Happy Diwali, Balaji.
SK
aatma, thanx! and just curious, which day/show did u go to?

Monday - 8pm show - IMC6 San Jose - Even met the distributor of both the movie too - asked him how the movie was faring and how come they put the movie before it was released in india - he told that they had to fight with the producers so that they could release it during the weekend - naturally the only time they can earn some money - Saturday shows were houseful

I miss my younger days in India.!!!

AOKK was cancelled last weekend since they didnt get the prints cos of the rains. so they'll probably screen it this weekend. i'll pick 'majaa' over it since the theater's closer and i've been looking fwd to 'majaa' a lot more :)
if u want an ipod, you can go to www.getipodsforfree.com and do an offer. follow the instructions and they'll actually send you a freeipod, no joke, there's reviews all over the internet
