bb, Chidhambarathil oru Appasamy is a remake of Malayalam movie named Chinthavisithyaya Shyamala and seems to have won the National Award focussing on social issues. In the Mallu version, Navya's role was the protagonist. Thankar remade this movie, with himself as the protagonist.

How long it has been since we saw even a 3 *** movie, leave alone 3-1/2 or 4!

No hopes from Maja or Sivakasi. Hope Balu Mahendra or Cheran give us something special.

You, Ram and Guru are doing a great job with these reviews. I hardly get to see these movies due to paucity of time but I can get a good handle on them thru all your reviews and also feel that I am not out of the circuit too :-)

raju, :(

ranganathanst, yeah i read about it a in a couple of places too. i havent seen CS but i have seen other srinivasan movies and loved them. the subtle humor in his movies is always biting but classy. defly not the kind of stuff in COA.

prakash, my sentiments exactly. 2005 is quite possibly the worst yr for tamil movies since i started reviewing. the stills dont give me much hope for 'adhu oru kanaa kaalam'. balu mahendra might've relied on sex a bit too much. but i'm banking on 'thavamaai thavamirundhu'.

thennavan, thanx :)

Just checked your 2005 list. Only Kaadal with 3.5 stars, and Raam & Kannadi Pookal with 3. Pathetic!

Check out my newly created blog. There are a few movie recommendations, which may make your :-( go :-)

BB! sidambaram, seerghaazi, saanakyar elaarayum vidu...KALPANAVAI NAMBINOR KAI VIDA PADAAR...
I have been assASINated this weekend...
here's what i wrote to a friend of mine:
watched Ghazini this weekend in a pretty crowded theater...thought Asin was adorable...Surya was fine in his role...his body language and facial expressions (esp. the former) have been improving with every role of his...but in the end, enakku nyabagam irundhadhu "kalpana" thaan...hers was a very endearing character...love the scene where she says, "ey, 10 naall-naa 10 naall-nu fix aaydaathey...7 naall-la velai mudinja...udaney vandhudu!" semithi romantic moment adhu...

tunnnnnsan aaayten maapoo...
om asinaya namaha...

how did the thaikulam in your house react to chidambarththi...

there were lots of tears here.. they were watching it friday. they gave it a thumbs up and asked me to watch it.. i fast forwarded the first 20 mins and then gave up..

maybe this is a "niche" movie like "pottu amman" which is a ladies special ?

Btw, you ppl caught up with 'Panchathanthiram' on Sun TV yday? Paakardhu 3rd time aa irundhaalum,it made my day. Truly an comic entertainer from the first frame till the last. Infact, found myself laughing for a few jokes that I didn't even notice when I saw the movie before.

prakash, checked it out. hv seen only 1(wait until dark) of the 3 movies u've mentioned. my friend recommended 'waking...' a long time ago but never got around to seeing it.

ram, assASINated... that was a good one :)

sundar, thats surprising. wife did exactly what u did. saw the first 20 mins and went to bed. checked out a li'l bit after the interval the next day but lost interest soon again :)

mav, no missed it. but that last thing u said "laughing for few jokes u didnt notice before" - happens in most crazy movies. u laugh @ some jokes so hard u miss the next few ones. so u catch those only in further viewings. my fav in that regard was PKS.
