2 Poojais

A quick look at 2 interesting movie launches over the last couple of days...

AVM launched their 167th film, titled Tirupathi, with Ajith. Its really amazing that Ajith, inspite of a long line of flops(Attagaasam has been his only average hit in recent memory) still manages to get some pretty prestigious projects. He already has Naan Kadavul with Bala and now has signed this film with AVM. The film will be directed by Perarasu, who directed Thiruppaachi and is now making Sivakasi, again with Vijay. Hmmm... anyone else think he has a superstition about naming his movies after places?!

The most surprising aspect of the photos is Ajith himself. It looks like he finally took all those comments about his weight seriously! He's lost a lot of weight and looks really thin(a trifle too thin?) in the photos, which lends credence to his statements about taking acting seriously again and concentrating only on it.

-------------------

The launch of Asokamitran caught my attention mainly because of its cast. It stars Dhanush, Gopika, Bagyaraj and Suhasini. The father-son relationship is supposed to be the crux of the film. I believe none of the possible pairings among the cast(Dhanush & Gopika, Dhanush & Bagyaraj, Gopika & Suhasini, etc.) has happened before. So however the movie turns out, it's cast is sure to look fresh! The fact that the movie is directed by Karu. Pazhaniyappan, the director of Parthiban Kanavu, is an added attraction for me.

no matter how hard he tries to lose weight, his head weight is gonna get bigger and bigger and bigger. UGH I just hate the guy

ajith's head weight is not piravi guNam so mayb he is a changed man
after all...
one more chance coming up his way careerwise!
did u think maddy wld b given a red card?
this walking on cloud#9 and the heady feeling happens to every hero/heroine just varies in doses and how hard they fall!:)

I doubt whether AVM group is very serious about making movies. All their recent releases (Priyamana Thozhi, Perazhagan etc) were utter flops.
This is probably going to be the first movie after the split (http://sambharmafia.blogspot.com/2005/03/partition-in-avm-productions.html) in the AVM family. They wud b better off concentrating on low-risk TV serials.

I heard Naan Kadavul has run into trouble as the producers association want Ajith to complete godfather before working on other projects.

Gopika looks like Dhanush's elder sister :-)

It is amazing that Ajith has reduced his weight fantastically. Looks like he has regained his body of 'Pavithra' / 'Aasai' era. But I'm not confident about Perarasu. He has proved as a masala director and this name of the movie also suggests the same. Going to be an acid test for all.. AVM / Director & ajith.

I heard 'Naan Kadavul' has been postponed and Bala intends to produce a movie with Ajith in lead in P.Vasu's direction. How far is the fact? We don't know.. Ajith needs good directors. That is the need of the day for him.

'Asokamitran' may be a good bet for Dhanush, since Karu.Pal may be able to deliver/extract better. (eventhough his 'Chaturangam' with Srikanth is still in the cans)

Read somewhere that he was on a liquid and green vegetables diet for 60 days..and shed 18 kilos in the process!

"Read somewhere that he was on a liquid and green vegetables diet for 60 days..and shed 18 kilos in the process!"

...which just means he can gain that weight just as quickly once he gives up that diet. It would be interesting to watch the dance and fight moves in his new movie to see if there is any "fluidity" there, after all he can't have much energy on a diet like that.

Anyone know the name of the Indian movie that was "inspired by" Reservoir Dogs? Thanks.

Gopi, that film must be 'Kaante'

except for his voice modulation (or lack thereof!), I think Ajith is a pretty fine actor...I've loved his work in "Vaali," "Aanandha Poongaatre," "Nee Varuvaay Yena," "Mugavari" and "Villain" (as the physically challenged guy)...the thing is, he's made several unwise career choices where he chose action and masala over the genre thats given him his best movies-- well-scripted dramas...hope he gets back to that genre starting with Bala's "Naan Kadavull."

reg. Dhanush, I think his only future is as Superstar's Maaplai...! I think he's dead in the water...of course, I'd be the happiest person if he proves me wrong...Aishwarya-nu paer vechavanga elaaaaaarum sandhosham-aa irukka venaamaa!!! is that Balu Mahendra movie ever going to be released?? and, the director of Parthiban Kanavu-- is his Sadurangam (Srikanth, Sonia Agarwal) ever going to see the light of day? Rekhs, any info?!

merino, though i wouldn't call his head giant, i agree with your observation:-) which was why i asked 'too thin?' in the review... he does seem to have gone overboard...

rekhs, i hope so too. he's probably the guy who's seen the most lows in Tamil cinema... wondering when he's gonna come out of the current one!

kaps, LOL. i think any heroine will look like dhanush's elder sis. i thot even sonia agarwal looked older than him in 'kaadhal konden'.

ramc, that was news to me. but balavukku p.vasu vida vera aale kedaikkaliya?! knowing bala's luck with changing heroes' fortunes(vikram, surya), i was hoping 'naan kadavul' would set ajith back on track. guess not...

skanda, 'sivakasi' will tell us the stuff perarasu is made of. the 2nd movie is always a director's acid test...

ioiio, LOL. that was my first thot on seeing the pic too.

vijays, yeah i read that too.

gopi, yep. that was 'kaante'

ram, interesting that most of the movies u've mentioned are romances or masala films. that should give him a hint as to what works for him. as u say he went into action thinking only action movies would run. but his voice completely lets him down in the rough and tough roles.

What, Balaji.. from top to bottom only cinema news? ( I was waiting for 'Singam Ondru' post to disappear)..

Suryah has occupied most of ur news nowadays... mmm? Nila kaigiratho?

dhanush is useless - I guess he is the worst actor around! Ajith is quite good..

My predictions - Ajith's film - hit and dhanush's film average grosser!

As far as Ajith is concerned, he is a good actor. Of course, he is proud, but certainly, his frankness should be appreciated. If anyone asked me what hero one can expect to give a truthful answer to a question, I will point at Ajith, rather than any other star, including the great Rajni.

Yes, his choice of films, are weak, moreover, even hit directors seem to be failing him at times. Can't do much over that. But I certainly won't say Thirupathi's success is a guarantee. Partially b/c Thirupatchi was a hit b/c of Vijay fans, and Vijay fans will accept most junk.

Dhanush is a good actor, but seeing him on screen and enjoying seeing him on screen are 2 very different things. But being Rajni's 'mappu', he will definitely be a force to reckon with.

Wonder how Ajith pulled this trick. Hats off. Good for him. I wish him the very best.

Sullan-Dhanush...is the catch with Asokamithran.! I don't like that guy and his acting. He is not fit to act in movies...MHO.! His first hit was just a luck..thanks to a good story.

Suhasini.! Thats interesting.!

The only movie in which Ajith showed some traces of "acting" was Vaali... And it was a director's movie, with no crappy dialogues boosting his image...

I hate him rather passionately, and his very thought make me mouth the choicest words in Madras Tamil! Ivanukku ellam oru image, adhukku oru boosting vera!!! So I shall refrain from saying anything further:D

director of Pkanavu has moved on to his next venture iliya..but susiganesh did the same and released his virumbigiraen after 5star..so theres still hope..
anyways me thinks ajith is basically a "NICE"guy just married
the wrong gal and he wld hv been better off sitting at hom and letting his wife act!!!besides which he has the most terrible set of so called friends...
atleast he doesnt pretend and isnt a hypocrite like the other silver
screen ppl:)thats his saving grace:)
ram pls tell me one hero u think is NOT good in ur opinion..
u seem to like everybody including that parthiban:P

Well said, there are too many 'malai's out there who are hypocritical and conniving(?). At least, Ajith is straightforward.

Don't get me wrong. I am no ajith fan and have barely watched any of his recent releases. Think last film of his I saw was Raja. But I am just saying, at least, there is an honest person in him, even if he sounds foolishly gullible at times.

rekhs & anon, i used to think like u guys... ajith used to say he would never go to star shows, never act in TV ads, etc. but then he went ahead and acted in the 'nescafe' ad... so i guess there's a hypocrite in him too :)
and i'm curious... what exactly did surya or vijay or vikram do to label them as hypocrites?

At 11:50 PM, Blogger Balaji said...

nattamai, thanx for dropping by. didnt know 'tirupati' was registered by SAC. if thats the case, he giving it up for an ajith film is real surprising!

aiyo balaji
i didnt mean surya or vikram in particular...i meant celebs in general, filmi folks thats all:)
cos quite a few times they say stuff just for publicity or a good image, and i know they speak a diff lang in pvt, when they let their guard down..i guess it happens when success hits u big time:)
whereas ajith is good at shoving both his feet into his mouth many a time:)
hope that makes sense:)
