Kodeeswaran - A Poor Li'l Rich Man

When I talked in my profile box about "mostly unimportant things on my mind", this post is kinda what I was talking about :-)

--------------------------

[Pic Courtesy Dinakaran]

The above picture is from a movie titled Kaadhalar Kondaattam and the guy there is Ebi Kunjumon, the son of producer Kunjumon, quite probably the man with most-punned name in Tamil cinema. Ebi was actually supposed to debut a long time ago in a movie titled Kodeeswaran and seeing this pic reminded me of that movie. That movie never saw the light of day and to this day, I'm not sure why.

Consider these facts... The movie's heroine was Simran, the most sought-after heroine of the day. The movie had a much-hyped one-song appearance by Karisma Kapoor, a top Bollywood heroine at that time. The movie's soundtrack, filled with catchy numbers appealing to the youth, was successfully released and was a hit. The movie's producer was, naturally, Kunjumon, the man behind movies like Gentleman, who would've had the money and clout to bring it to the screen.

I still remember my friend SS, who was big a movie buff as me, and me enjoying the songs and waiting for the movie's release. But the day never came. But knowing Tamil cinema, if Kaadhalar Kondaattam is a hit, Kodeeswaran will probably be dusted off the shelves and released with Ebi's name prominently displayed!

Was the music director for 'kodeeswaran' - ranjit barot or AR.Rahman,BB? any idea? I remember hearing few songs few years back.

Ram, that was really very good.. the number one film producer with movies like Sooriyan, Gentleman, Kadhalan and Kadhal desam bite the dust with one Ratchagan?? tough to believe.. He produced another flop (forgot the name) starring Yuvarani (and Vignesh??), which also flopped..

anyway, Ebi was too young for a hero in Koodeeswaran that time.. he seems mature and handsome too.. Good luck to him..

but I pity that guy..coz he was daring enuff to launch Shankar's career.....he took risks...so hopefully his new film works out for him!

ram ,very funny :) and conveyed all necessary info too!

ramc, googled after i did the post and found that music was by agosh, which was actually the 1st letters of the names of 3 guys...

gp, 'sakthi'? yuvarani and vineeth.and yeah, ebi does look much better than a few other heroes out there today.

ibh, yep thats true. he daringly invested a lot on a new director. i heard he and shankar had a fallout right after 'gentleman'.

OOO...brought back memories of 1998.! I bought the casette of Koteeswaran and loved that song 'Santha velichathil veetukku vellai adi'. I thought the music director was Ilayaraja.!

Pathetic to read about a ex-great Kunjumon..who is now bankrupt.!

Let's with EBI the very best.!

Ram.C, the MD most definitely isn't ARR. I have the tape somewhere, will check and confirm. But Ranjit Barot sounds awful familiar, so that's probably the guy. Liked the songs quite a bit.

Apparently, KT wanted a hefty sum, which nobody was willing to pay. He held firm, so did the distributors, and the film never got released!

"Agosh" was the trio that did the music for "Sakthi" and also that funny Karthik movie, "Harichandra."

btw, bj, Gendleman and Shankar did have a fallout but it was after Kadhalan...

Yeah, Sakthi.. the village movie involving some elephant and all.. He had the notorious distinction of breaking up badly with the directors.. He was apparently short-tempered and used to call his directors "patti" and all that.. No director worked with him for more than 2 movies..

Pavithran was introduced in "Vasanthakala paravai" and then given a potentially career-defining boost in Suriyan.. Shankar, working as Pavithran's assistant, approached KTK for Gentleman.. Even Kathir, after the flop "Uzhavan" was given a lift in Kadhalar Dhinam.. If KTK had been less arrogant, Shankar would have surely helped him..

hi,
usually in tfm we come across famous duos as mds...
viswanathan and ramamoorthy,
shankar-ganesh,
but a trio is rare..
Agosh is an acronym and it refers to 3 people - Anand, Ghosh and Shaleen.
Their best contribution is tholaivinilae vaanam beautifully rendered by hariharan and repeated by chithra..
just switch off all lights and listen to this...
u will b transported to another world!:)

Hv heard of Kodeeswaran...but hvn't heard the song. I read somewhere that K T Kunjumon had gone off to the Gulf. Looks like anybody and everybody in Kollywood wants to launch their son / daughter at any cost.
