500 Not Out!

3 new reviews(Kanaa Kanden, Jithan and Sevvel) are online at bbreviews. That takes the total number of reviews on the site to 500. Kinda glad that the 500th review is Kanaa Kanden. Just seems like a significant milestone and would've hated it to be a review of a movie like Meesai Madhavan!

Have a memorable memorial weekend people!

Congrats Balaji!! Just to play a spoilsport, if I ask you include your other reviews (English and Hindi) posted in this website, which is the 500th film? ;-)

Great job.. it is not easy to write these many reveiws.. Ever since I decided to start writing reviews to the movies i see, I feel a difference when I watch.. Its like.. when there is an important scene, I think "I should mention it in my review".. I feel it reduces my totally relaxed way of watching the movie.. Have you felt that way? Or, do you digest the film after it is over, take notes and write?

kaps, thanx! i think i can call it 'in progress' :-) we've decided on terms for past reviews and r discussing terms for future reviews. i watch some in movie halls but most on vcds(rent, not online)

vijays, i have no idea! and if not for this blog, i probably wouldn't remember #500 in a few days either.

asokan, varudhu sir. let me see if i can complete it over this 3-day weekend!

gp, idhu nyayamaa?! but maybe itll come out to be 'chandramukhi'!! that would be perfect :-)
i think i still relax while watching the film. the fact that i have to write a review is always in the background but i don't think watching the film is any different whether i write a review or not. i usually write the review the next day and it goes thro a couple of edits depending on the time. the reviews on this blog r usually the raw, first cut though :)

I think factors like remembering character's names, even the insignificant ones, remembering the technician's name etc.
are some of the things that might affect the spontaneity of the review writing process and also make you watch the film in a different way. Thats why I would be surprised if Balaji writes his reviews after watching the film just once in a theater. Maybe works for Tamil movies. For Hindi or English movies, there is no way you know/remember all the little details/names unless you google the info somewhere from the net or watch the movie thrice at home :-)

To some of the reviewers here, a question I pose is, why did you feel the need to write and publish reviews on movies, even the bad ones? Did it become like a habitual thing after a period of time, or is it that you wanedt to see what others thinks of your opinions on movies, or is it just because you love to write? :-)

Vijay, my wish to write reviews came from the observation that certain things I found unique on the movie were not discussed in the reviews.. I am reading movie reviews for the last 20 years or so.. I love to write, so it is good.. For bad movies, it could be why they are bad.. b'cos obviously the producer and director want to make a hit movie.. Where did they go wrong?

vijay, i do write all my reviews of new films after watching the film just once. i don't find remembering the main characters' names or the key technicians' names that difficult. not too many to remember...

To throw a twist in your question... i wouldn't know which movie was bad until i see it, would i? :-) i guess i just take the task of writing reviews seriously. So not writing reviews for some movies would just make it seem incomplete. but the whole writing reviews thing did start off because of my love for writing. and the emails that say that people select movies based on my reviews does help :-)
