Jo with Kamal again?

Maayaavi, one of the two big releases for Jyothika that I was looking forward to, has come and gone without doing much for her career. In fact, her performance in some of the scenes in the movie brings back scary memories of the over-expressive, overacting Jyothika of the pre-12B days. But it looks like the bubbly actress is the frontrunner for the heroine's role in Gautam's next venture with Kamal. A Rajni film followed by a Kamal film. That would be quite a coup for her!

And there is a lot to look forward to about the project itself. In Kamal and Gautam, we have two technically savvy artists and a slick actioner from them would definitely be explosive. And Gautam managed to extract the best out of Jyothika in Kaakka Kaakka, where she both looked gorgeous and acted very well. So I am fervently hoping this project takes off with the three of them in tow, unlike the last project Gautam was supposed to do, Chennai Oru Mazhaikkaalam, that was dropped after a lot of initial publicity.

‘overacting Jyothika of the pre-12B days’

I dunno bj, she has always been an overacting and annoying actress to me - pre and post 12B

she almost ruined KK for me..

its really too bad that Gautam has decided to use her again.. I was really looking forward to his kamal film

now I am completely disapointed : (

Oh my gosh, opinions differ or what...am referring to vic's comment, "she almost ruined KK for me.." I fell IN LOVE with her Maya character in KK...there's a scene where Surya asks her, "Ivlo Naall Enge Irundhey?" and she replies, "Naan inge thaan irundhen...neenge thaan gavinikkale..." I wished I were a part of Sivakumar's progeny...
DROOL DROOL DROOL...let me stop!

Gotta agree with vic here... Jyothika's success as an actress in Tamil cinema is a complete mystery to me. Like the equally annoying Simran she has zero action talent and is no competition for all the great actresses Tamil cinema had in the 80s: Revathi, Radha, the girl from Sundhu Bairavi, Gouthami and lots more. Even early 90s heroines like Kushboo were far more impressive.

I always felt Simran had a lot of talent in both acting and dancing :) You have to keep in mind that heroines these days get sketchily defined roles on top of (usually) not very memorable screenplays. So it would be unfair to compare a Jothika of today to a Revathi of yesterday. If you follow interviews by most actresses (north and south), they usually say something like "I am waiting for a good role to come my way that will have a lot of scope for acting" (and that they all admire Julia Roberts). Trisha said that her role in Ghilli had scope but I thought that movie was very Vijay-centric. Incidentally, the girls from Sindhu Bhairavi (which had full-fledged character development) were Sulakshana and Suhasini.

Just from the comments here, Jyothika seems like one of those love her/hate her kinda actresses! I am one of those who went from hate her to love her and have liked her in movies like 'KK', 'dumm dumm dumm' and '12B'. 'Chandramukhi' is definitely an acid test for her since it is a heroine-centric movie...

Jane
these days Rajani & Kamal are not fit for hero roles. they better take the role of a old man or better not act only. Atleast rajani is ok. but kamal is stupid. he tries to over act & spoil the role itself.
