I'm quite puzzled with your 'star' ratings as always, Balaji. I looked around your reviews site trying to find a good reason why Pokkiri deserved a 1/2 star more than what you have given it. :-)

I am tempted to compare Pokkiri with Vijay's previous Aadhi or even keep with the crop of films like Aalwar or Thiruvilaiyaadal Arambam or some such thing. I dropped that idea as comparing movies with totally different approaches cannot necessarily yield a good result. :-)

Purely on the fact that Pokkiri is far superior than anything that Vijay has come up in the last 2 or 3 years (with the exception of Ghilli), is probably not a very good reason to give a 1/2 star more! :-)

Based on Pokkiri's merit, just by itself, should be able to yield it that 1/2 star more (I would think!) and you'd probably say that you didn't like it more than the 2 stars that it got and it was the violence that made it lose its 1/2 star. I am curious to see if the Telugu original got higher stars from you at all? If it did, then why? :-)

There.. I have addressed my grouse with your Pokkiri rating and contributed (hopefully not!) to another 100+ comments to follow!..(I'll sleep well tonight!:-)

i wanna watch adaikalam not just for prashanth but also for uma...she's been so solid in every movie of hers...starting with vaanavil to that vijaykanth *er to selvam...too bad she mostly goes unnoticed...just hope she gets good character roles where her lack of glamor isnt gonna matter...

Am surprised with Nenjirukkum Varai getting 2 stars (same as Pokiri). Thagappansamy I heard was better than atleast Nenjirukkum Varai.
Like Sandya, I too feel Pokiri deserves more than 2 star. Maybe around two and a quarter :) Benefit of doubt it should be given 2 and a half.

your dedication in movie-watching/reviewing is to be commended. a lesser person would have avoided these movies like the plague, but no, you soldiered on to watch them and write long, detailed warnings your readers. bravo!

sandya, if i looked around at ratings for other movies and compared them to 'pokkiri', i'd probably be puzzled too. the star rating is always 'at the moment' kinda thing with no comparison to ratings of other movies :) more in long-due separate post...

ram, she's doesn't have that big a role here though she's the main female character. but does her job well as usual...

bart, if the qualities of the 1st and 2nd halves of 'thagappansamy' had been exchanged, it would've probably gotten a higher rating :)
and yes, 'pokkiri' is probably 2 1/4 stars. But I always round down :)

anon, thanx :)

prin/ram, haven't seen it yet. will probably c only the hindi version on dvd since i don't wanna watch the dubbed version :)

For Guru (hindi),
Can you upload onto your site as you did for Taal and Aanandha Mazhai. That's for Maddy!

Cheers
