Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu Audio

Of late, we’ve seen some new director-music director pairs emerging in Tamil cinema. The two not only work perfectly together, but also deliver their best work when working with each other. The Gautham Menon – Harris Jayaraj combo is one such pair and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu is their third outing together. Considering the quality of the soundtracks in their previous 2 collaborations Minnale and Kaakka Kaakka and Kamal’s usual success with his films' soundtracks, great things were expected from this album. They’ve certainly been met. For lovers of soft, melodious songs, this is easily the best album in a long time.

1. Karkka Karkka…
An extremely catchy number starts off the album and I was hooked to this one right from the first listen. The song is in praise of Kamal’s character (looks like he is named Raghavan) but it is soft and very different in style and tone from the usual numbers that sing the hero’s praises. The lyrics are clever, flow smoothly with the tune and nicely convey the strengths of a cop. The rap bits sound out-of-place initially but grow on you and eventually seem like an integral part of the song.

Question: Is the first line KaRkka KaRkka KaLLam KaRkka; Endru Sollum Naran? If it is, then who or what is Naran?

2. Paartha Mudhal…
Like Suttum Vizhi Chudare…, this number too has steady, rhythmic beats and a pace that slots it between a fast number and a slow number. In other words, it sounds just right and so is instantly likeable. Unni Menon, without any noticeable Malayali accent, sings for Kamal. He last sang for the actor for Pon Maane… in Oru Kaidhiyin Diary but one wonders why there was such a long break since his voice suits Kamal very well. Bombay Jayashree, with her slightly husky voice, too sounds perfect for the number.

3. Manjal Veiyil…
The song’s tune is awesome and Hariharan sings the high pitches just right. The low-pitch Vennilave… bits continue naturally from the high pitches and serve as catchy interludes. My only complaint is with the lyrics. They seem too conversational and not poetic enough. They also don’t flow smoothly with the tune and so some of the words feel unnaturally stretched.

4. Uyirile…
Probably the most melodious number in the album, the song is almost haunting with its slow pace and minimal music. Srinivas sounds a lot like SPB and does a neat job.

5. Neruppe…
The only fast number (even that is only relatively speaking) on the album, this one is a folksy song in typical Harris Jayaraj style. Reminds us of Rangola… almost immediately but that is more because of the type of song it is rather than similarities in any particular sections of it.

With the movie releasing this week (is it today?), I guess the music has a key role in ensuring a good opening. Of course, with Kamal around, the opening is not an issue.

Let me give it a ear!

Balaji,

Naran means Manidhan.. Example : Naramamisam word in Tamil

And if u notice, no english words are used in lyrics. That is really a surprise in Tamil cinema. I had seen the same in Kakka Kakka also. Hope poet Thamarai penned the lyrics and she is the one who avoided english in his songs. And also, if u watch keenly, you can find the tamil words are well suited with the music.

Really a great job by Thamarai..

I am totally IN LOVE with this album...have gone completely bonkers over karka karka, partha mudhall naalle and neruppe...esp. karka karka...i listen to it when i go for a jog...for a few minutes, enaku kamal hassan-nu nenappu vandhududhu when i run listening to the song!

btw, bb, dunno the meaning of that line but my favorite line in the album is from paartha mudhall...

"seri yendru unai poga cholli...kadhavoram naanum nirka siripaay!"

very cute n romantic line...
Nadipu thalaivaaaaaa..vaa...vaaa...!!

The songs are average even by Harris Jayaraj's modest standards.

Not including Vettaiyaadu ViLayaadu, Kamal's choice of movies/directors/MDs of late are getting pathetic.Wondering if he is on the downswing of his career, acting in one comedy film after another with heroines young enough to be his daughter. K.S. Ravikumar and Saran arent the kind of directors you should be working with at this stage of your career. When will Kamal switch to roles that will suit his age more, you wonder. If AB can pull it off in Hindi, Kamal certainly can if he wants to. Instead he seems to be resorting to make-up gimmicks and such, the kind of which we got tired of in the mid-90s itself after Avvai Shanmughi. His latest still from Dasavathram too reminds me of the MMKR Madan look. Crazy Mohan is getting older and predictable too, his last movie Jerry was a colossal flop.

this album contains fantastic lyrics by thamarai, completely in tamil and especially the song Karkka Karkka has beautiful and poetic tamil words, very sweet to listen.
One thing thamarai always influenced by ceylon tamil and she has used lots of ceylon tamil words in the song.
and last but not least, plzzz do visit my blod also.

leo, en sir ippadi oru thot? paavam sir kamal :)

anon, yes it is...

adi, i think its releasing Friday. if u havent listened to the songs yet, do so right away...

kuttichuvaru, thanx. but based on maverick's lines below, it looks like its naman and not naran! so my doubt continues :)

maverick, thanx! but now my curiosity has just increased since i wanna know about all the lines :)

karthik, i agree. its a pleasure hearing songs without any english words. just by that they become more melodious.

ram, just 2 more days. can understand ur excitement. unga area-la padam release aagudha?

skanda, havent read much about the movie. will let u know monday(if u havent seen it by then) if he's playing a double role :)

listened to 'vallavan'. liked 'loosu penne' and the 'kaadhal vandhiruchu' remix. havent listened to KD yet...

vijay, i'll have to disagree. based on 'minnale', 'kaakka kaakka' and other films, i dont think his standards r very modest. and VV's songs r way above average...

but agree with u about kamal's career. wish he would experiment more with serious roles/ new directors instead of doing these string of fluffy movies... but as i've mentioned many times b4, amitabh didn't start playing his age until he was forced to do so. he did the superstar routine in a number of movies which became colossal flops. only then did he start playing older roles. neither rajni nor kamal r there yet...

ravi, yes i absolutely love the lyrics in 'karka karka'. very different, sweet and poetic...

rdx, thanx :)

This film VV has every ingredient to become a successfull movie ...and it is as per the reports coming in ...Only thing is people should watch the film with open mindset ...not pre-assumptions of traditional Heo-heroine story...

And also I agree with Balaji on Kamal or Rajini isn't there where the BIG B is right now... by the jistory of south Indian film industry trend, heros tend to play their role as HEROS for long ..thats how it was right from MGR, Shivaji, NTR, Nageshwar Rao, Naseer and so on ....So Kamal is doing nothing he should not be ...infact thats how the current trend is ..Rajini with Shreya :), Chiru , Mammooty etc ....
