Imsai Arasan Trailer

If someone had told me even a few months ago that I would look forward to a film that had Vadivelu as its hero, I would've responded that they were crazy. But from the day it was announced, Imsai Arasan 23aam Pulikesi, has slowly inched its way into the list of movies I am awaiting this year. Its trailer [thanks Sandya] has further whetted my appetite. With impressive sets, good music, some nice visuals and an interesting cast, the movie certainly looks to be different.

I know we've had historicals before but have we had a full-length comedy/historical film in Tamil cinema? Or is 23aam Pulikesi treading on completely new ground?

HNY!
Saw the trailer, can't wait! It would be wonderful to see a full length comedy in Tamil. We don't get too many of those!

here're some comedy sequences that crossed my mind:

-- the hilarious Bhagyaraj-Rajni portions of "Anbulla Rajnikanth." Think it was scripted by K.Bhag himself - at least it had his touch.

-- Rajni, Cho and Co. in Adhisaya Piravi. Love the part where clips from his old movies are incorporated.

-- The several Murugan 'avatars' in Kadhala Kadhala. Some (including BB) found it a bit too much but I thought it was really funny, esp. Kamal telling Rambha, "Dh...Dh...Dheyavaanai, enakkunnai thavira oru Sss...sss....setup irukkiradhu" "Setup-aa? you mean shakkalathi?" "yeah!"

-- Kamal as Lord Shiva in PKS.

-- & of course, Vettaya Raja in Chandramukhi.

Dont know any movie which combined full length comedy and historical, but thinking about this it seems rather odd to combine these two things...does somebody know some other films (hollywood/hindi) which have this combination in genre?

Imsai Arasan 23 Cholan not Pulikesi. Don't you Tamils have better work to do. Why picturise the Great King Pulikesin the Second's name in the movie as a Buffon. Remeber This Brave king Pulikesi was the one who defeated the Pallava Ruler.

When a film picturises Jesus Christ in a bad sense you ban it. Now what you are doing. Shame on you Tamils.

We should not dishonor the great kings of our past. Just like Pallavas were great Tamil kings, Pulakeshis(1 & 2) were great Kannada kings. It was Pulikeshi 2nd who stopped the Northern invasion by King Harsha.

I hope the movie producers are little more careful when choosing the titles for their movies, so as to not disturb the peace.
