Gold Hunt

Which of the following organs in the human body does not sweat?
1. Forehead
2. Lips
3. Neck
4. Palm

Question from a 2nd standard biology textbook? Nope. Thats one of the questions posed in the new Sun TV game show Thanga Vettai, hosted by Ramya Krishnan. The correct answer, which actor Srikanth said after a little thought, won him 2 gms of gold!

Today's show featured Prasanna and Srikanth on opposing teams, along with four of their acquaintances. I'm hoping that featuring cine stars is just a stunt to give the show an initial boost. I mean, are Srikanth and Prasanna really the people who need more publicity and to whom a few more grams of gold would make a big difference?

First impression - the show's a total dud. It has gaudy sets modelled along Egyptian lines(with pyramids and sphinxes), embarassingly easy questions(one had the participant match Rajnikanth movies and their heroines) and a screaming Ramya Krishnan trying to inject some artificial energy into the proceedings.

the show is as pathetic as it can get... Sun V is synonymous with gaudiness in every set of theirs, right from the vanakkam thamizhagam... totally lacking any class whatsoever...

Ramya Krishnan is a bad choice to counter Kushboo... and wonder why she is screaming so much! This program wudnt last long, especially since it is aired simultaneously with the million times more popular KBC...

I didn't watch the show, since I wasn't really impressed with the promos. I hope this will become like another "Kodeeswaran" programme for "Radaan"..... most likely to be stopped soon...

Ramya Krishnan looked horrible in the add.. *gags*

Very true. Not sure how Sun TV expected to compete with KBC-2 with such a show.

It is a dumb show.....u should classify it as a game show and not a quiz show. 90% of the questions will be sitters.....as they wan't everyone to know the answers to make the show more interesting. Don't be surprised if u get questions like 8 Kaal poochikku ethanai kaal?

I think it is move to taken on Khushboo's show. They are targetting the weakness of the Tamil people - gold and hoping that people will get attracted. I saw the Sunday show and was utterly disappointed. Ramya Krishnan is definitely a wrong choice....she comes across as way too artificial.

suresh/nithya, and the way she shouts after each answer was more irritating cos the questions were so easy.

ramc, u didnt miss anything :)

merino, yep. and she's put on quite a few pounds after marriage.

srivat, which channel is kbc-2 on?

kaps, her artificiality was evident even in the promos. her voice doesn't suit a compere's role at all...

KBC-2 (original) is aired in Star plus and the Tamil dubbed version in Vijay TV. Now there are quite a few shows pitted against these. In hindi, you have Sony Tv's "Deal ya no Deal" hosted by Madhavan (s, it is maddy) and Zee Tv's soon to be aired "Kam ya zyaada" hosted by Manoj Bajpai. In Tamil, it is Ramya Krishnan's "kosu vettai".
The sad part is none of these can hold on their own against the KBC. (Madhavan is doing a decent act, though).
The strength of KBC lies half in Sidharth Roy's content and half in the persona called Big B. In past,we've seen failed attempts by Govinda and Anupam kher (uncomfortably along with Manisha gorilla) against the first installment. This is the second string of attempts...

As per "http://www.indiantelevision.com/headlines/y2k5/nov/nov18.htm", there is also a Sanjay Dutt anchored "Mission Ek crore" in Sahara!
Mission impossible??

Most SUN TV programmes suck and are aimed at the lowest common denominator. But for cinema, none of these sat TV channels could even be remotely interesting I think. Which reminds me of the supposed channel to be started by Tamil cinema fraternity themselves headed by Bharathiraja and others, called Tamilthirai. I wonder what happened to that? If they decide not to release promos and other new songs on any other sat TV channels that would give all these Sun, Jaya channels a hard time and force them to think innovatively.

The news on Sun TV is a big joke. Kalanadhi Maaran might as well have the DMK flag hoisted behind the newsreader.

Well, my hubby has a theory that the whole Kushboo "issue" was orchestrated and blown out of proportion to make way for "Thanga Vettai" on Sun. Unforunately, "Jackpot" which Kush hosts on Jaya is going great guns and not a number has gone to the lower end on the ratings front. Anyways, I would very much like to think that Thangar Bachaan (and his fellow jaadhi katchi folks!) had a tremendous influence in everything that happened to Kushboo. After reading the hoopla surrounding Thangar's comments on heroines in tamil cinema and Kush's potent respone.. it seems all too obvious that Thangar had a hand in conspiracy to slander Kush. The end result, Kush is still standing tall in Jackpot, Thangar is probably hiding after the miserable performance of "Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy" at the BO (his comments and controversy didn't help the film!).. and poor Ramya will never see the light of day at the rate at which "Thanga Vettai" is going!..

Also, folks, let's cut Rums a little slack.. she just had a kid recently.. Plumping up during nursing is quite common (as I would hate to point out is the case with "yours truly" Simmu!) shortly after pregnancy and delivery.. If she tries hard afterwards, she could lose all of it.. Paavam...

bart, i read about maddy hosting a show somewhere too. wonder what made him take that up! i guess hindi game shows have more prestige associated with them after KBC. tamil shows seem to be for out-of-work actresses only :)

vijay, wishful thinking :) but i think it works both ways. with sun tv being the most popular channel, i'm sure many movies rely on them for publicity. so not sure if the producers will comply with not giving them songs, promos, etc.

sandya, ramya is a mom? really? i knew she got married but didnt read anywhere about her having a baby. if thats the case, i will defly cut her some slack :)

Vijay, the Tamilthirai channel was launched and was aired on tv from May (I think) this year, but is no more on air. I don't think that channel had any viewership.

no producer will dare not to give sun tv ne promos , bcoz the money sun tv gives to buy out new movies is way beyond ne other sat channels reach .so they want money so they will give promos even MR.vijayakanth once passed a resolution not to gv clippings to sat channels in nadigar sangam which was thrown to bin by the producers .

yes if u want DMK side of a story watch sun news
if u want ADMK side watch jaya news (its much worse thn sun news , the politicians who wud be praisin amma wud be never heard of)

and if u r a neutral watch somethin else
