Thanks Again!

Yesterday, March 7, was this blog's 4-year anniversary. I definitely didn't think this blog would see its 4th anniversary when I started it. I started blogging simply because everyone else seemed to be doing it and not because I possessed some extraordinary, useful knowledge that I just had to share with the rest of the world. The blog seemed like a natural extension of bbreviews; an opportunity for me to write even more about one of my passions - Tamil cinema. But as I continued to blog, I admit that I began to enjoy the interactivity that the blog offered. I enjoyed the enthusiastic comments, the interesting discussions, the entertaining arguments and the fun trivia that the posts led to. That is the sole reason why the blog has hit the 4-year mark. And its been a lot of fun. So once again, a big 'Thank You' for visiting inspite of the site's staunch policy to focus on the trivial and the frivolous.

I mentioned in the 3-year anniversary post last year that I wasn't so confident about the blog seeing the next anniversary since there was a general lack of excitement about Tamil cinema at that time. But it has made it. And things seem a little better this year at this point in time with the general quality of movies released so far being a tad better and a more exciting roster of upcoming movies, both near-term(Sarvam, Ayan, Kanthasamy, Sultan) and far(Endhiran, Thalaivan Irukkiraan, Asal), to look forward to. So, though I have a couple of things in mind - like for instance, reviewing more older movies - I'll avoid making any predictions about the future contents or the longevity of the blog and simply say that "we'll see how it goes".

To me reading your review and then seeing a movie is pretty much the way of life, way back from Minnoviyam days I think.( I still can't figure out how I first started reading your reviews- but I know I'm been reading them forever.Way before you even had kids!)

keep posting balaji. getting to read your stuff on a friday afternoon after a long week of work is a distinct pleasure for sure. don't stop and mess up my routine, haha. plus i think with the talent and movies that were present in 2008, it must give you enormous confidence on the great things to come down the line.

has it been 4 years!! wow, how time flies! i think i have mentioned this to you before and am sure others have also - you have several silent followers - we go to your blog regularly (almost a ritual) but don't always comment since we are not big experts or followers of tamil cinema. but i find your blog very entertaining and almost always use it as a guide before i pick my next movie to watch.

  17. There is some good movies coming out recently from tamil cinema but suprising audience response has been bit cold. They are rejecting both good and bad movies. There seems to be lack of fire at the box office. waiting for that elusive Blockbuster...mybe 'ayan' and 'kandasamy' would do the trick.

    Congrats Balaji.

You deserve an award for maintaining, and regularly updating, your blog for 4 years.

More so for your patience in watching and writing reviews for a lot of the atrocious movies being churned out. I owe you hundreds of hours, which I have gained by avoiding a lot of them :-)

  23. There could be many filmi buffs and enthusiasts but not everyone can express or put across the views in a critical/appreciative, co-ordinated, appealing and interesting way. needless to say, you possess that gift and 4 years of continuous viewership(?) stands testimony to this ! Congrats and I am one of those regular visitors but very rarely leave comments !

  29. Balaji, the popularity of your Blog has even reached Malaysian shores. Many of my friends even read your site. But the flip side is, ur sypnosis is seen in the covers of some pirated tamil Dvds manufactured locally here. i used to see it before, now no more already.
