Endhiran Starts!

[Pic Courtesy - Rajinifans.com]

This poster announces the start of shooting for Endhiran, the next film from Rajni and Shankar. Endhiran, ofcourse, is the new name for what was so far being called Robot. The shoot is supposed to be starting with a song sequence, though the location of the shoot isn't clear with some news reports mentioning the US and others talking about Peru.

Let the hype begin!

Poster certainly looks juvenile for a Shankar's film. So much for the grandeur speculated.

i agree with reagan...what the heck is that! is this a sci-fi comedy?!
loosu thanamaa iruku poster...wonder where this project is headed...esp. with sujatha not being a part of it...balakumaran- the dialogue writer for endhiran - is not the first name that pops up when one thinks of sci fi stuff...
Shankar, engey sellum ungall paadhai? yaaro yaaro arivaar!

I too agree . And not sure what songs will do in ROBOT ! I hated shivaji (inspite of ss's superb screen presence) . Hopefully it wont be a dud .

Given Shankar's track record with CGI, I have high doubts about the whole project.

It's kinda like the stock market or housing bubble. Everybody knows it's going to burst sometime, but it keeps growing and growing. When it finally does burst, the fall is spectacular. Same with Shankar. He's upping the ante with each movie.

Brazil, I hear.

I have a strong feeling that this movie will be a rip off of Edward Scissorhands.

reagan, was disappointed that it was CGI rather than a real photo too. but didnt think it was juvenile :)

ram, my first thot - cos of the rose - was a sci-fi romance :)
shankar sellum paadhai pudhiya paadhai. hope the destination's good :)

ramki, i liked 'sivaji' a lot. so lets wait & see :)

prakash, yeah he does have a tendency to go overboard with CGI. but that hasn't killed any of his movies so far. hope the bubble burst doesn't happen with this one :)

munimma, hmmm... a third contestant :)

anon, yikes! i sure hope not. I'm thinking more along the lines of 'robocop' or 'terminator' :)

Wasn't there some Terminator-styled photo released with Rajni in it before? I thought that was supposed to be for this film.

There's already a tamil version of robocop.

Would have been more impressive to see a real picture of Rajini, instead of this graphic image.

The only Shankar's project that had CGI all through was Jeans. IMO, he did a decent job.

However, I am not a fan of over-the-top graphics in Songs that Shankar seems obsessed with.

w.r.t CGI I wish Robo to look like Jeans and not like a random Shankar song.

anon, i think that was just a fan's work :)

anon, really? what's that?

filbert, that's all we can say at this point :)

mitr, yeah i know. there was also the news that all publicity photos will be such digital pics to keep his appearance a secret :)

rajesh, yeah the CGI(in the double roles, etc.) in 'Jeans' was integrated into the film and so seemed good. as they say, the best graphics are the one you don't even notice. its when he goes over-the-top in songs/fights that its a pain :)

I am afraid Rajni looks unsophisticated in this Robot getup.
SRK or Hritik would have been a better choice but they don't believe in Futuristic Vigilant tales.

It isn't that Shankar goes over the top. It's just that the CGI is so amateurish and silly. Remember the car race sequence in 'Indian'? Looked so dumb.

Even the 'Kannodu Kaanbathellam' song was crappy. Spoilt a great song with some kid stuff.

The SUV fight sequence in 'Shivaji'.

Reminds me of the 1st Superman movie, which was made like 30 years back.

Tamil version of Robocop is Sivam, starring Arun Pandian.

I found the poster interesting and good. A robot holding a rose is not something we've seen before. Hopefully thalaivar comes back with a bang.
Meanwhile, is "Enthiran" a tamil word? I know "Iyanthiram" (machine) is a tamil word. Should it not be "Iyanthiran"? (இயந்திரன்). Will it qualify for tax exemption.. Anyhow, if the next govt is not DMK, the first thing that might be scrapped is this movie title in tamil thing. Hopefully the movie releases before the change of govt :)

I have to agree with Balaji here. None of Shankar's movies have good a big "booo" for graphics. All of u might remember how much fun we made of Rajni with the white wig et al and the final output onscreen was brilliant. I saw the saw so many times to see if there was a "bug" and could not find any. So I hope there is something Shankar is out to prove thats not very apparent. Note that Shankar is a very astute director and knows what he wants and will not let go till he gets it. The technical crew he has assembled consists of CGI experts that have some really good movies to their credit (CGIically speaking... not how the movie fared at the box office!). I am looking forward to this movie. As for Sujatha, yep its a big miss but I believe they had the script complete before he passed away.

Also remember that Shahrukh originally agreed to the movie and then backed off. He should have seen something interesting in the script when he offered to produce it himself.

This is gonna be a rip-off of Hrithik's superhero showing in Krrish.

This will however have Superstar doing superhero stuff a few notches above the usual superhero stuff he already does as a regular hero...mix it up with out of the world CGI, couple of duets in exotic, snow capped locations with Aish, battle an obligatory bad guy & his hoodlums, a couple of Vadivelu or Vivek's desperate comedy tracks, then regurgitate all this in two and a half hours ... ladies & gentlemen, ROBO is served!

Hmmm...I'm thinking maybe a re-working of Bicentennial Man, the Robin Williams movie about an intelligent robot that is humanised over the centuries?

Forget everything..when was the last time(Or first time)you ever saw heroine's name being so prominently displayed on Thalaivar movie poster :-(

Sujatha wrote a series called Jeeno - in Anantha Vikatan - where the lead couple in the story are assisted by an extremely capable and intelligent robotic dog Jeeno - in a starting a revolution against the establishment. Very Sci-fi story.

Rumour has it that this movie is based on that story line.
