A Peek at Dasaavathaaram

After the initial publicity stills that were released when Kamal's Dasaavathaaram was launched, I haven't seen photos from the highly anticipated movie anywhere else so far. So the photos from the sets of the film, on Mallika Sherawat's website, came as a pleasant surprise. There are 3 photos, apart from the one above, here [link courtesy an anon who commented here].

A couple of surprises... One, Kamal looks really young and it looks like he's lost quite a bit of weight. And two, Ms. Sherawat is fully clothed in all of them :-)

Hey there,

If this photo is anything to go by, Kamal has lost quite a bit of weight.

I still remember a nicely 'stuffed' Kamal in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiayaadu.

Cheers.................Jam

Well, apparently, Mallika gave Kamal a tough time, and it looks like he had to put up with a lot of nonsense - thats what Deccan Chronicle says today. Well, paavam Kamal. So much trouble for just a Mallika when he could have implemented all his amorous scenes on Asin - velile pora onanai..

Kamal can afford some 'help' reducing fat cells and am sure he's used it. A whole 20 pound difference from VV.

btw, how did you come across Mallika's website? ;-) *attempting tongue-in-cheek humor*

Further proof to me, that he didnt give a damn about VV. He just wanted to collect his paycheck and get it over with. In addition to the pot-belly there were big shopping bags beneath his eyes. Of course die-hard fans will claim that he intentionally remained that way to look realistic - method acting :-)

Kamal's career seems to be slightly on the downswing with masala films and collaborations with the likes of KSR, Saran and so on. Nothing worthwhile after Anbe Sivam from Kamal the actor.

He has lost weight, true. But still looks very much a mature person. He did VV with no makeup(so I hear) and that might be the reason for looking aged. For 52, he is not that bad.

I've become a big fan of Mallika Sherawat after watching Pyaar Ke Side Effects...boy, her comic aptitude- and not her assets- was in full display in that movie...worth the DVD rental...

reg. Kamal's looks, yes, he does look quite young...I was surprised that he took a long time to shed the pounds that he'd gained for Virumandi...he'd lost a lot of weight after Aalavandhan and PKS...he'd looked fit in Panchathanthiram and Anbe Sivam but for the last two years or so, he's been so bulky...am glad he's looking dapper again...

Are'nt you reviewing Borat soon ? :)

jam, yep. that seems to be the common opinion :)

raj, nalla pazhamozhi... had a good laugh. and if kamal's intention was to have some "amorous scenes" with mallika, a very apt proverb too :)

skanda, not sure... would be nice to lay hands on atleast a couple of pics of him in disguises... then again, that might spoil some suspense about the film :)

rads, nothing interesting in the way i came about malika's site... just followed the link from the anon i've mentioned... but did spend some time on the rest of the site after that ;-)

vijay, he was supposed to be middle-aged in VV. so i can give him the benefit of doubt on the pot belly :)

kajan, "for 52 he's not bad" - my thots exactly...

ram, writing about kamal AFTER mallika! elam vayasu kolaaru :)

arvind, didn't c it on the big screen :( so will be waiting for the dvd...

Kamal does look REALLY young. I almost thot it was from 'Apporva Sahodarargal'. Deserves a pat on the back for that.

PS: I don't want to think about what prompts him to sign up a whole variety of heroines. Makes me cringe, actually!

'Anyway as long as Oscar Ravichandran does not turn bankrupt it is fine ... LOL'

That complain will suit Kamal not KSR, he is one director who completes his movie on time and budget. Varalaru was not delayed becos of him.

Pot belly of 'VV' sure must've been to portray an authentic TN Police man!! :)

"BTW you should remember that he is 53, none of the current crop of actors will even come close to what is called *fit* and this includes most of Bollywood actors(I'm talking abt 50+ actors except Big B, Aamir and Shahrukh are also okay).Lets see how current younger gen of Tollywood comes up in 50?"

Yeah, but how many 50+ actors are out there for comparion? As far as Bollywod is concerned most of the older actors there are in pretty good shape.Atleast I have never seen them obscenely overweight like Kamal. Down south, Rajni has always been trim and never bulky. So is Sathyaraj, although his height probably helps. The irony is that Kamal advised someone recently on how to lose weight ot something lke that. I dont remember who the actor was to whom he gave advice. But he could practice that a little himself. Being 50+ cannot be used as an excuse here, especially when Kamal still wants to prance around with heroines young enough to be his granddaughter :-)He has to atleast look like he is not more than 10 years older :-)

I'm going to have to agree (?) with Vijay (?).. (What has happened to me.. I'm agreeing with Vijay! :-).. But even if you take other examples, Karthik and Arjun (who have been around for ages in tamil cinema are relatively trim). I'd throw Saratkumar into the fray.. he has gotten a little bulkier, muscles wise, but the weight has always been about the same (Surprising that he is still around.. that's another matter! :-).. Of course, there's always a Prabhu or a Vijaykanth.. for those, there's always an equivalent in any film field.

If there is someone who I truly wished dropped some weight (because it would be a great blessing for him and us as his fans!) is Vadivelu.. He is not a 'hero' per se, but I would still like to see the Vadivelu of yesteryears. Far more appealing on screen!..

As far as Kamal and VV goes.. I'm neither surprised he gained weight nor that he has lost it now.. It's pretty typical with Kamal. The last few years with his career taking many physical and emotional acting experiments.. it doesn't surprise me that he looks the way he does now.. If you lose weight too much or gain weight too much in shorter and shorter intervals.. sooner rather than later, it's going to catch up with your body.. and that's exactly what has happened to Kamal.

it's really wierd to read people speculating at such great length on kamal's weight. in the last five years, people have become obsessed with weight. being slim doens't amke sathyaraj attractive and being plump doesn't make khushboo less attractive. come on pople.

At 11:05 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So are you saying that Kamal is more attractive when he is plump? :-)

vijay was just wondering do you always talk in a pudharkamaana manner? are you like that at home too?
if your wife cooked sambar would you go like," indha sambar is ok aana kadugu that rendu moonnu adhigam. but of course die-hard sambar fans will claim that it is intentionally cooked this way so that it tastes traditional. up north they make better use of the paruppu without even using kadugu. but then again nothing beats the westerners and their south beach diet." ??
just curious...

I do seem to have an issue not so much with Kamal's weight or lack of it, but did his hair-do in the stills strike anyone as being a little "out of sync". Not sure if this look is to complement the light hearted, tongue in cheek narrative of Dasavatharam? But it looks rather fake, that you can tell in an instant that it is...FAKE!

The waiting game ensues ->>>

Talking about hair...or the lack of it...unlike our Superstar who seems to be basking in the shine, perhaps a full fledge hair transplant will be a long term solution for Kamal than a toupee or a wig that will always look ill-fittingly bad. Recall the times of MGR & Sivaji in the 70s with broad collars, wide bell-bottomed pants and ultra wavy coiffs...for the lack of a better word: HIDEOUSLY FAKE! Sorry that's 2 words!

Hope Kamal won't have to go that way...given the perfectionist that he endlessly strives to be, the crowning glory on the head pretty much determines the complete image.

I guess even Ajith had a full transplant before Paramasivan, after RED there was no way he was going to regrow hair!, same holds to Kamal after PKS? (may be transplant is done in parts or so!)
