That's amazing, Balaji. All three films getting 1.5 stars. I don't think I can ever remember any set of movie reviews, you published, that had the same number of stars for all of them. Congrats! New milestone! :-) ;-)

Ram, I was just looking at my reviews back in 2000 (I used to run a site, Tamil Thirai Valai, back then! The site is still there, if you'd like to see it). My god... you are right.. We had some of our best films that year.. Ram, you just scratched the surface with Mugavari.. Alaipaayuthe (which I saw on screen 4 times, jolling Madhavan! :-), Rhythm, Paarthaen Rasithaen, Hey Ram!, Thenaali, Bharathi.. and even films that weren't so revered back then (but look like masterpieces now!): Kandukondain Kandukondain, Ezhaiyin Sirippil (which I actually liked!), Vaanathai Pola, Vetrikkodi Kattu.. and even the much despiced Kushi (compared the worse stuff that SJS comes out with now! :-(

All said and done, 2000 was a grand year for Tamil Cinema.. We did embark on the new millenium in style! :-)

Rendu is usual Masala. I'm particularly thankful to Sundar for neither making Maddy hit 100s of villains nor dance.Another big thanks for no punch dialogues. Vadivelu evokes a few laughters here and there but is certainly not his best. Santhanam comes up with some good one liners (for film marked A :).I would'nt blame Maddy or Sundar, they've come up with something which you won't hate it and you won't like it too!!. Maddy's screen presence saves second half with some believable sequences. Last but not least the heroine (Anushka) looks good :-}

I feel the movie is actually better than *Vallavan*.

Come on "sivapathigaram" is not a bad movie to deserve 1 1/2 star rating... i think a two would be better..i know it is a bit boring but definetly "Vaathiyar" and "KKS" are worst off...i would not even give a rating for these two movies

Guys movie called *Mann* is good and an honest attempt (forget the hero and heroine).

That reminds me of another film *Amirtham* which I just happened to see it because the remaining films were housefull, but it turned out that this was better than the rest :-).This was released in 2006 and went out with out a trace and had couple of awesome songs by Bhavatharini (especially for Carnatically trained!!)

While this year has certainly been disappointing, I still feel the month of December shall give atleast a couple of good movies.
Veyyil, Adaikalam (Prashanth without a pair :)), Poi, Mozhi and Chennai Kadhal...
Fingers crossed and eyes/ears wide open.

bart, It should I have good expectations from both the Bharath movies but Prasanth, it's safe bet to ignore. The only movie I thought he was okay was *Tamizh*

sandya, any kind of a milestone is always nice :)

ram, oh yeah, that was a wonderful yr for movies... this year was truly bad and we just have to fondly remember years like 2000 for what we r capable of producing...

nandhu, review coming this week...

srivatsan, agree w/ most of what u said. and yes, its much better than 'vallavan'...

skanda, any movie that bores me automatically earns less than 2 stars. and i was bored thro most of the 1st half in 'sivappadhigaaram'. it would've taken an extraordinary 2nd half to make me forget about the 1st half but there was nothing extraordinary about the 2nd half either...

srivatsan, will try to watch 'mann'...
saw 'amirtham' a little while back. was disappointed. thot it was different but not done well. but agree with u on the songs though...

bart/ram, i think 'veyyil' and 'mozhi' would be top of the list for me...

Sandhya,

Was really shocked to see such a huge thala photo!!, had to revisit the link to see real reviews :-). Ever since *RED* was released, I have a fear anything related to thala :) be it picture or review.
