Am happy with your 3 star rating for Veyyil. That makes it one among the top 5 for the year...
Also forgot to mention earlier - your 2 star rating for "E" was very right. The entire world seemed to go gaga over the movie, which actually wasn't good beyond the first 2/3rd or so.

kalyani is not exactly a new face. she used to be a child actress. she still is considering the fact that she is all of fourteen. for that age she shouldn't be acting in such roles. these pinjile pazhutha cases!

Nice reviews. Hope you pick a classic movie for the 600th review.

Yeah Balaji, Kalyani isn't a new face. She came in the movie "Alli thantha vaanam" with Prabu Deva, and been in many other movies.. Also came as Annamalai's daughter in Annamalai serial. She's a cute thing.. She appeared in Elamai puthumai this morning on SunTV. Shesaid she's in 11th grade, so thats' like 16 or 17 years old. She needs to pick better scripts. She said her mom does it for her.!!

why would a mom choose such a risky role for her daughter's debut as heroine??

just watched Rendu, was ok, good have def been better. What really bothered me were the dialogues, I mean I could have written them. I don't know if anyone noticed that as well. Villain: yes, sister....!

i watched veiyyil last nite...i thought the 2nd half was brilliant...much better than the first...goes to show how much i like roger ebert's words- "its goodness-- not sadness-- that moves me to tears." there's a very delicate moment in the 2nd half when shriya reddy gives pasupathy an oil bath...that scene 'could've' been handled so poorly but was so beautifully depicted, esp. the way she hugs him in a tenderly affectionate way...pasupathy, barath and shriya were all superb...
first half was a little weak with an unconvincing romance and pasupathi in that ridiculous wig that made him look like carl hooper's akka paiyyan!

bart, yes though admittedly, it wouldn't have taken much to hit the top 5 this year!

anon, yikes! if she really is just 14, she shouldn't even be watching such movies, let alone acting in them!

anon, since i've discontinued reviewing older movies, that's gonna be tough. 600th review will either be 'chennai kaadhal' or 'nenjil' and i don't think either of them will come close to being a classic :)

merino, wow so she was that little girl who danced with prabhu deva in 'alli thandha vaanam'! wouldn't have guessed that!

anon, since the storyline was "girl taking revenge on the guys who raped her", the mom might've seen it as a heroine-oriented film that would give her daughter a break. the director has screwed up the film. so i think we can give kalyani and her mom the benefit of doubt :)

anon, didn't notice anything particularly bad about the dialogs... then again, not a single line stood out either...

skanda, yeah a couple of the songs sounded catchy even the 1st time. need to listen to them a few more times :)

ram, glad somebody else also liked the 2nd half over the 1st! most other reviews i read said the 1st half was good and the 2nd half was mushy, slow and sentimental. i didnt feel that way at all...

srivatsan, agree... anushka was way better than reema...
