Cinemakshari Answers

Thank you for the enthusiastic participation in last month's Cinemakshari. Hope it was fun. Almost everyone got it right once I published the clues and I have individually responded to all those who sent in their answers. But for the sake of achieving closure, here are the solutions...

Netru Indru Naalai (Old MGR film)
Naalai Namadhe (MGR film – remake of Hindi hit)
Nam Naadu (MGR film with the number Nalla Perai Vaanga Vendum Pillaigale…)
Naattukkoru Nallavan (Rajni’s big-budget flop)
Nallavanukku Nallavan (Rajni-Radhika hit)
Nalla Thambi (Old NSK starrer)
Thambikku Endha Ooru (Rajni’s ‘watershed’ movie)
Oor Kaavalan (Rajni-Radhika flop)
Kaaval Dheivam (Old Sivaji film)
Dheiva Vaakku (Karthik-Revathi starrer)

Based on the speed at which I got responses, it looks like the version without clues was too tough while the clues made it a bit too easy. So I just need to strike a good balance between the two for the next edition of the game. Ideas welcome :)

You are absolutely correct Balaji. Bcos we dont have idea to convert Namadhe to Nam, Nallavan to Nalla and Naadu to Naattu. And also, being the first time, it might be tough. But in next time, hope everyone get into right track.

Really a fantastic and funfull idea.

very true balaji. The answers were really easy once u gave away the clues. But anyway a sense of achievement when i got ur mail saying the answers were perfect.

dunno...for some reason i thot of naalaiya manithan and then manithanin maruppakkam!!!!!!!!!!!!!! needless to say, was totally lost after that :-)
tried back tracking from the last clue...got nowhere with that either!
dont think u did anything wrong as such...just that it was the first of its kind...am sure we'll be a lil'l smarter next time around...rather hopefully :-)

Balaji.. a fun cinemakshari indeed.

Maybe, you can give generic clues like:

film released in 1997
MGR-Nambiar film
Oorvasi's 'knot'
Selvi's stepmom on TV, was paired with MGR in this film! (Naalai Namadhe)

Anyways, there is a lot of improvisations you can do with the clues, which may make it harder for readers..

Regardless, great fun!..

It was a very novel attempt Balaji. Yeah, without the clues it was too tough. Me & my friend were trying to arrive at the answers by discussing it over the phone :) Like Ram & Sandya have mentioned, I am sure you will defintely make it more interesting & tougher for us in the upcoming ones with more subtle & yet tough clues. Cant wait for the next one.

--> that would've been a good one, Sandya...for in my Asin Mayakkam, I'd be thinking of her Ghajini character and losing sleep over who her sister was!!!!!!!!!

karthik, so i guess the clues helped since this was the 1st time :)

shanthi, based on the responses i got, getting 50% of the answers without clues is a pretty big achievement. u can be proud :)

prasanna, glad to hear that :)

senthil, to be honest, i had forgotten about it since i had individually written back to the emailers. but i got a comment that said they were waiting for the answers and thats what reminded me :)

ram, actually 'naalaiya manidhan' and 'naalaiya theerpu' were the 2 most common guesses b4 i published the clues :)

sandya, thanx (and a Wow! on that 'naalai namadhe' clue). will try those kinda clues for the next edition :)

filbert, glad it induced so much interest. hope the next edition meets ur expectations :)

I would also second the opinion of tougher clues and may be first 3 days without clues then add clues after that.
Maybe clue against each entry is not required. The clues could be summarised (like 2 MGR starrers, 4 Rajini starrers etc). Anyhow, waiting for the next edition.
