Woman on Top!

Its celebration time for Tamil cinema! All three Tamil New Year releases, Chandramukhi, Mumbai Express and Sachein, seem to have opened fabulously, leading to reports of the highest opening collection ever in Tamil cinema history! But with probably the most at stake, Rajnikanth's sigh of relief should be the biggest and the loudest since CM has apparently taken a clear lead at the box-office.

Based on what I've seen on the web, the film has received mostly above-average reviews. So such non-negative word-of-mouth(my wife gave it a "It's OK. Can see it once"), positive comments on the comedy, the different, non-masala storyline(which will bring womenfolk in) and the strong climax should keep the movie going strong past the initial full houses that Rajnikanth's fans ensure. Looks like the woman is going to win the box-office battle against the man and the train this time :)

Trivia: Name the actor/actress who appears in both Manichitrathazhu and Chandramukhi?

vijays, just an educated(and obvious!) guess here since I don't remember a lot about 'Manichitrathazhu'. Is is sheila?

Good guess Balaji, but it's not Sheila :-(
Lets wait and see if someone else can crack this one! :-)

i don't think vineeth was in 'Manichithrathazhu'. and i can remember only 1 other malayali actor in CM. Is it the temple priest who tells the story of CM?

vijays, where have u disappeared after posing an interesting trivia question?!! Waiting for the answer...

Oops! Thanks for reminding me, BB. Here you go..
The answer I was looking for is the Kannada actress Vinaya Prasad.
In CM, she played the (thankless)role of Nasser's wife.
In MCTZ, if you remember vaguely, she played the 'jinxed' woman (daughter of Nedumudi Venu) under suspicion - the role done by Nayanthara in CM
Eppadi ennoda trivia? ;-)

Don't remember her from MANICHITHRATHAZHU. But i did think during CM that the actress looked cute.

Forget about non-Rajini fans Ram, lets just focus on naan-Rajini fan(s)...

vijays, is VP a kannada actress ? Thought she was agmark mallu - especially after her "Sthree" serial in Asianet.

BTW, how abt listing similarities & diff between CM and MC from the point Rajini "re-enters" ?
For starters
Similarity - M'Lal's entry and Thalaivar's re-entry (P Vasu was so much at a loss of ideas that even the "gettup" was similar).
Diff - The (mis)concept of a snake (The only Raajanaagam I know of that seemed larger than a Python!)

...and there was another sequence in CM that was clearly borrowed from yet another Mohan Lal starrer (not Mani...)
Wanna try ?

Aries - The athinthom sequence was a straight lift from Aaram Thamburan (Manju Warrier- Mohanlal)
Yes, VP is a Kannada actress. She made her mark in mallu filmdom by playing homely, tearjerker roles.

hmmm... looks like there r a few malayalam movie fans(with much better memories!) in here too. I've seen & enjoyed 'aaraam thambooran' but did not remember 'athinthom' sequence as being a lift from it...

Balaji, correct me if I am wrong, but I remember a very similar song sequence in AT..

Bull's eye vijays.

The entire sequence of thalaivar picking up on Nayan, stopping her music class, buying her dad's old harmonium, Nayan pouring out on him and later the song has been lifted from Aaraam Thamporan

VP debuted as the "other woman" in the tamil film "Thaikulame Thaikulame" starring Pandiarajan and Urvashi
