Beauty 'Lies' in the Eyes of the Beholder

People magazine is out with its annual list of the 50 most beautiful people (thanx for link, Munimma) and our own Aishwarya Rai is not on there. Backed by Julia Roberts' now famous quote about being the "most beautiful woman in the world" and with the amount of publicity she's gotten this year on American TV, I thought Aish would be a shoo-in for the list this year. Oh well... I guess beauty does 'lie'(as in, not be the truth) in the eyes of People's editors!

And as long as we are talking about beautiful people... Trisha has been signed to play opposite Vikram in the upcoming remake of Mammootty's Thommanum Makkalum, which is now titled Majaa. Trisha has had a wonderful couple of years. She starred in 2003's biggest hit Saamy and 2004 turned out to be even better as she was the common factor in the biggest hits of the year in both Tamil(Gilli) and Telugu(Varsham). 2005 has also started fabulously as she was the heroine in Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, the biggest Telugu hit of the year so far and Tiruppaachi, the only success in our Pongal releases.

Her successful streak in Telugu naturally made her very popular in Andhra. That, combined with the marginal roles she was getting in Tamil(Ji), appeared to have led her abandon Tamil cinema altogether since she had signed no new movies after Thiruppaachi. But she recently signed up for Hari's Aaru with Surya and now she's also gonna be seen in Majaa with her Saamy co-star Vikram. Trisha fanskku majaa thaan!

just for kicks, here's my list (in no particular order) of the most beautiful celebs (girls, please take care of the 'mens' list)

Aishwarya Rai- Julia Roberts- Emmanuelle Beart- Jothika- Kajol- Elizabeth Hurley- Sridevi (she's ageless!)- Sneha- Madhavi (after watching "Raja Paarvai" she's my Aish Senior!)- Audrey Tautou- Nicole Kidman- Sushmita Sen (after "Main Hoon Naa" I've developed a special interest in Chemistry!)...

the jollings of America can continue but I gotta get back to work...

Just one doubt - is Maja(a) a thamizh varthai or a derivative?

vijays, you are not from Chennai? ;-) majaa is a suthaamana agmark chennai word, not necy. a tamil word.
Seriously, Hindi. like kushi, jore, etc

I would have to agree with ‘people magazine’ here - aish is definitely not one of the ‘50 most beautiful people’ - regardless of what Julia Roberts says

though I am glad to hear abt trisha though, I am looking forward to her upcoming projects

vic, am sure you're even more disappointed with the absence of kovai sarala, vadivukarasi and kamala kamesh on that list...

vic, i know beauty is subjective (eyes of beholder!) but i think aish can definitely beat many of the women on there. for eg. Sophie Okonedo, whose pic is on there... who is she anyway? and people like lindsay lohan r more newsworthy rather than beautiful in the real sense of the word.

ram, who is audrey tautou?

the petite French beauty from the film "Amelie."

Balaji, I am sure you are aware of this news - Tautou has signed on to play Sophie Neveu alongside Tom Hanks in 'The Da Vinci code'

If Bride and Prejudice had been a hit, there is a good chance Aishwarya Rai might have been on that list. Like the Oscars, publications like People Magazine are geared toward Hollywood (and Lindsay Lohan). So I say screw People Magazine and whatever they find fascinating :)

Trisha was offered role for tamil version of varsham(meaning rain, being produced by SP Balasubramaniam) but she denied it. The reasons being, this role
requires a lot of drenching in rain(the movie has a sentiment that whenever hero and heroine meets it rains! + a big hit rain song with lyrics, nuvu vasthavani nenu odthantana(another hit movie))
because of which she's many times sick during the shooting and she don't want get sick again also she
did some exposing in this movie and she doesn't want to spoil her image in TN (by doing the role), being her home state.

trisha has an image in TN? news to me... After being groped rather vulgarly by simbhu in 'alai' and rolling around with vikram in 'saamy' i didnt think she had much of an image to save!

Trisha responds:

"Hey Buhlji, naughty...enku nal nala characters pananum like samy and gilli...where i have scope to purfoam...there's a thin line between glamor and vulgarity...i've never crossed it...shimbu and kenny enku romba nala friends...avanga will be upset if u write like this...it was an expression of love in those movies..avlooo than...there is a malicious campaign on blogs to tarnish my image...naan nala ponu...my true fans know that...bye all!"

Trisha is not beautiful and she has wooden expressions. The only thing going for her is her figure, being slimmer than most of the other Tamil heroines. Must say talent and beauty have nothing to do with success and we have enough proof with her relative success in Tamil films.
